Why am I getting the same build (69.0 - 20190827005903) updated multiple times per day?

I'm running 69.0 on Mac OS X (Mohave).

From about:support I can see that I've been updated with the same build 5 times in the last 5 days, and twice today alone. Going along with that, I've gotten the "We just need to restart FF" page many times also. Then, instead of actually restarting, I get the dialog forcing me to create a new profile, which it then runs. Then I have to find the profile list, start a browser with my real profile (which I've carefully saved at this point), and then kill off the instance with the new profile. I can't figure out how to get out of this cycle. I've turned off automatic updates, but something (??) still seems to be updating automatically. When I check the app contents, I can see that some files/dirs have last-modified times corresponding to the update times on the support page, so something really does seem to be happening. The contents of updates.xml seem a bit strange to me, BTW, but I don't know how to parse the entries very well - see image below.

Thanks for any light you can shed on this!

Hi ken.basye,

I'm sorry to hear you're having issues with the multiple updates. There seems to be some common threads where Firefox would update every time it starts.

See - Why is the browser updating every time it starts? {link}

Also - Why does firefox update every time i open it now? {link}

The suggested solution would be to download and install the latest version.

Firefox Download : Get the latest Firefox browser{link}

Hope this helps!

Also, check; Firefox always shows "Update Ready to Install" :MAC Only SOLUTION: Remove /Users/==<UserName>==/Library/Caches/Mozilla/ which contained the directory /updates/Applications/Firefox/updates/

I tried removing the updates dir, but that didn't help. It's not updating every time it starts, but it is updating every day or so, though not yesterday. I'm already up to the latest version (69.0.1).

The biggest problem is not the forced restart (although not being able to refresh a page or open a new tab without a forced restart is pretty rude, if you ask me). The bigger problem is that after the restart, FF claims that my profile can't be loaded because the FF version now running (the one that just got updated) is too old for the profile - which makes no sense to me at all.

Right now, my workaround is: let FF create a new profile (like I have a choice), open about:profiles, find my real profile and launch it (thus doing exactly what the dialog box says was impossible), make it the default (again), and then exit from the new profile. As a result, I have about 10 profiles now, a new one for each time this happens.

I suppose I'll try a complete reinstall before too long, as this workaround is getting pretty tiresome. Thanks for any further suggestions or references.

Note that current is Firefox 69.0.1.

The screenshot shows at the bottom that you once updated from 68.0.2 to 69.0, but you seem to have downgraded to 67.0.4 and didn't manage to update to 69.0 and apparently never tried to update to Firefox 69.0.1.

If there is a problem with updating or with the permissions then best is to download the full version and trash the currently installed Firefox application to do a clean reinstall.

Download a new copy of the Firefox application and save the Disk Image file to the desktop Firefox 69.0.1:

Your personal data like bookmarks is stored in the Firefox profile folder, so you won't lose personal data when you reinstall or update Firefox, but make sure NOT to remove personal data when you uninstall Firefox as that will remove all Firefox profile folders and you lose your personal data.
