Windows 8.1 ver. just upgraded from FF 66.0.5 to 67.0.2 ver. Lost my bookmarks, restore sessions list, add-on's, open tabs. Presuming this was backed up by the process - explicitly how can this be remedied as it was not handled in the upgrade correctly? Explicit details on fixing each and every point in total please relating to this version upgrade! Thanks in advance! The two add-on's are related to block advertisements. Please do not bounce me around to a bunch of tech notes I have already looked at, some of which are incomplete or stem from 2x, 3x, 4x versions which may not be relevant to location, names, usage in 67. I can not read between the lines to determine what is or is not pertinent as I am not the designer developer of FF privy to its evolution and changes.

Hi tpost, sorry to hear about this problem.

If you haven't already, could you close out of Firefox and do a normal Windows shutdown and restart to complete any pending updates and release any file locks.

If Firefox again starts up without your data, could you check whether your stuff is available in a different profile, as follows:

Profile Manager Page

Inside Firefox, type or paste about:profiles in the address bar and press Enter/Return to load it.

This page should list at least one profile and could list many. (Each profile has two folders and one or more buttons. Do not click any Remove buttons.)

The profile that Firefox is currently using will have this:

This is the profile in use and it cannot be deleted.

Do you have another profile named default or default-longnumber listed on this page? If so, you can check whether it is the one you were using recently by clicking its Launch profile in new browser button.

If it isn't what you want, simply close that new window.

If it IS what you want, back on the about:profiles page, click the Set as default profile button for that profile so Firefox uses it automatically at the next startup.

Any progress so far, or do we need to keep looking for your data in some other places?

Thanks to jscher2000 and FredMcD for responding. No Old Firefox icon present on desktop or folder on the drive found by exhaustive search. Nothing in Recycling Bin either.

Opened Profile manager and examined both entries for "Default" and "Version Default" profiles. Selected "open folder" buttons; all four had the identical default value. No other default file name listed. "version Default" was listed as the active profile.

Restarted the laptop and it took much longer than usual to restart. Opened profile manager again (about:profile) and selected "open folder" button on Default profile, saw another default entry. Changed the Root and Local Directory to point to this other default profile. Selected the "load in another browser" button and it came up. Viewing showed old bookmarks, add-on's and prior open tabs were present. Websites on tabs would not connect. Pathping to sites showed some timeouts on sites and IE8 for comparison had some problems as well but was able to connect to some of them.
I made the found name for the other profile the active default and rebooted the laptop. Upon completion of restart and run firefox 67, all came up as expected and connected as was in the prior running 65 version.

jscher2000 gets the nod for solution. I still have to go thru the other items from fredMcD, which I will to ensure robustness. Thanks to Both!

Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.{web link} I use an add-on that makes backups of my user profile, Just In Case. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the current Firefox.

Every now and then, open the profile folder and create a copy of the current profile as is to another location on your hard drive. This way you will have a backup.

If you do this each day, you will not lose much data. This should be done with Firefox Closed.

Note: In case you need to restore from these backups, you may need to overwrite old or corrupted files.
