For the last 2 weeks, firefox (62.0.2 (64-bit)) is constantly opening tabs with adds. I have completely wiped out and reinstalled firefox. I have run it without any extensions or add-ons except what is there by default when installing firefox. I am pretty certain it's malware. I tried everything described on this page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware to no avail. I do not browse any dodgy sites that I'm aware of. I do not play games on my computer at all. I ran a lot of different malware cleaners but they either don't find anything or whatever they do find and remove is not making a difference. I have a sophos firewall antivirus and it is not detecting anything either. I started using firefox private window but it will just open a new regular firefox window to display the add. I have installed adblock plus but it does not help. I installed Block Site to at least block the pages when they open up. As I am typing all this, a new window with a blocked add has opened up 4 times. I love firefox and would like to continue using it but I can not work like this and am switching to chrome until a resolution to this issue can be found. Please help!

I recommend https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/ublock-origin/ instead of Adblock Plus and block site. Remove them and install ublock Origin.

Then, what are these sites? Did you run a malwarebytes scan? What anti-virus do you have?

more options

As per your advice, I have uninstalled Adblock Plus and Block Site and installed uBlock Origin.

The sites appear to be random adds, I have not noticed a pattern.

Yes I ran malwarebytes as well as all the others suggested on this page: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-caused-malware

I have a sophos firewall and antivirus.

I will not be using the computer again until Monday, so can't say if anything has changed.

Those ads are not random it's because you went to a site that had tracking and now your browser tracks you. So what site did you go to when this started?

more options

I do not know/remember what site I went to when this started.

How do I get rid of / stop it?

more options

So nobody knows how to get rid of this? That is very disappointing. I guess I am now a chrome user. :(

Can you post a screenshot of the ads?

I'm in the middle of a project right now. As soon as that's done, I'll go back to using firefox and will grab that screenshot. :)
