maybe, but try to refresh firefox first.

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

about your question:

  • give it a try.

about the issue, try to disable trcking protection:

OR

upgrade your graphics driver

OR

in about:config search for mp4 and make it all true.

OR

use shumway extension:

can you check this test page? usually would show 5 blue boxes

You mean six blue boxes

FFus3r said

use shumway extension:

shumway has not been worked on for a few years now as it was a experiment to try and render Flash in HTML5.

Youtube uses HTML5 and not Flash Player for a couple years now.

I've always had VP9 (6th box) disabled by default on Windows 7. Maybe it's a platform difference?

Always had all six as blue in Firefox and SeaMonkey on Linux unless FFmpeg was not installed.

So you do not want to install the media feature pack for Vista in order to fully support use of HTML5 players like at Youtube? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/fix-video-audio-problems-firefox-windows

i don't see an actual extension with that exact name ,, would be nice also know a way fix the bug and/or codecs for vista sp 1 , doing the workaround everytime is annoying and can't be used for embed videos , 3-4 days ago older videos load fine and on my pc nothing changed so i don't know what the problem could be...refreshing firefox , disabling hardware acceleration , deleting cache and cookies not solved this

Microsoft dropped support of the old Vista SP1 back in April 2012 and dropped Vista SP2 as of April 2017.

I did find a rather old Platform Update Supplement for (32-bit) Windows Vista SP1. https://www.microsoft.com/en-hk/download/details.aspx?id=8594

It includes Media foundation so if it works you may be able to support HTML5 players better.

It would be better to have Vista SP2 and this update instead though. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2117917/platform-update-supplement-for-windows-vista-and-for-windows-server-20

Youtube does not use the Flash Player Plugin for current videos for a while now and I have seen posts where some of these so called html5 player extensions have actually caused some issues with HTML5 players on Youtube and elsewhere.

Firefox itself use HTML5 player. You just have to make sure you have media foundation pack on Windows Vista SP2 or later or FFmpeg on Linux.

update firefox to the latest version to get rid all of this.

Firefox 52.9.0 ESR was the last to still run on Windows XP and Vista so if by latest version you were thinking 62.0 Release or 60.2.0 ESR then they will not run. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/end-support-windows-xp-and-vista
