Hours and hours of trying and I can't Whitlest some of the effected sites Like Washingtontimes.com and Dailycaller.com. I probably have 20 hours of attempting to Whitelist. I'm a little computer literate, no expert. I got into Firefox by accident and thought I was filling out a form. I didn't know I was in a place where I could actually change things. I have used some popup features to Whitelist on some sites with success. However, the washingtontimes.com and the Dailycaller.com I can't get anything done. The Daily Caller's pop up doesn't work. The Washington Times has nothing to fill out.

I'm hoping I can be directed back into Firefox and restore everything as it was before. Screenshots or good direction would be wonderful. I'm an old guy and spend a great deal of my time on the computer. Thanks for any help that can be provided.

I get that pop-up when I have Tracking Protection enabled have have a the shield icon on the location/address bar, so the ad-blocker extension choices in the whitelist pop-up do not apply.

Firefox shows the shield icon at the left end of the location/address bar in case content is blocked by Tracking Protection.

Hi, please try a Refresh but Note that this does more than uninstalling and re-installing does. Normal uninstalling does not remove some preferences which may have become corrupt. Please Refresh but do this 1st:

then

Ask for help if need it to restore more of your profile if need it.

PK Shadow, Thank you for your help. The bookmark backup is something I'm hesitant to do, as I'm not sure what to do and am quite apprehensive of getting myself into another problem. I don't care about my bookmarks. I don't even know what I have bookmarked. The only thing I know about HTML is what the letters stand for and that HTML is used to code websites. Would it be okay then if I went directly to the refresh-firefox-reset-add-ons-and settings link you sent and clicked on Refresh?

Thanks

Hello Clay888,

The header of your original post says :

" I accidentally turned on ad blockers."

Could you be a bit more specific about that, please  ?

Did you maybe install an add-on like AdBlock Plus or uBlock Origin  ?

Further down your original post you say :

" I have used some popup features to Whitelist on some sites with success. "

Could you be more specific about that as well - what "pop-up features" are you talking about  ?

McCoy, First of all I do not know what I'm doing in a computer much more than using one. I don't know how I got into the depths of Firefox, but I did. I didn't realize I was changing things. I don't know which page I was on but I thought I was answering questions. Then I stupidly clicked on "submit." I got out of there and went to read some news and found I was blocked. Most of the sites offer a "Popup" menu with two choices: Pay a certain amount a month or "Whitelist" by deleting the ad blockers like adblock and the many others that are. There is a list of the ad blockers and one is supposed to click on each one and then click on button that says, remove ad blocker, something like that. There are also animated example Gifs for each ad blocker showing what exactly to do. However, that function does not work. The various ad blocker names clicked, "gray out," but that's it. "ad block" and all the others were installed when I clicked on "submit" in Firefox. I do not know exactly which ad blockers are installed. The "popup" menu has worked on some websites. It had not worked on The Daily Caller or The Washington times. The Washington times offers no menu, nothing. The page just goes blank? I appreciate your willingness to help me. If you need any more explanation from me, please ask. PK Shadow sent me this: Pkshadow Sep 1, 2018, 11:43:05 AM

McCoy, I have not done this, as I'm apprehensive about making a bigger mess for myself. I don't care about my bookmarks. I don't even know what's bookmarked. Would it be okay if I just "refreshed"? Clay

I'm really curious about what you mean by :

" I got into Firefox by accident and thought I was filling out a form "

Dear sir, I must admit that I still have no idea what's going on here, and therefore I can't give you any advice.

I'm hoping that somebody else will come up with proper answers for you (fingers crossed .... )

I clicked on an Icon because I didn't know what it was. I think it was the attached screenshot. Then somehow I got "Into" Firefox where one can change things. I didn't realize was "changing" things. You've probably never encountered the ad blocker problem because you know what you're doing. I have also included a screen shot of the "popup" menu that doesn't work when attempting to Whitelist the daily caller. This seems to be a common popup for many sites. It has worked on a few. I call it a "popup" because that's what it does. When attempting to view a site it "pops-up"

Thanks for your attempt at helping me. I do greatly appreciate it.

I thank "everybody" for their input. It's truly wonderful to receive this kind of support. I really did not know what I was doing. And most of the answers were over my head. The one from COR-EL was the most straight forward for me and it jogged my memory for me. I had turned "on" tracking protection. I thought that would be a good thing. It turned out that was the problem. I stuck with this for days and it finally worked out.

Thanks again to everybody.

Clay

You can leave Tracking Protection enabled. You only need to be aware that it can block essential content and check the location bar for the shield icon, especially in case a website reports problems or if it otherwise isn't working.

The Web Console shows what content is blocked by TP.
