Tab key changed behavior on app after upgrade to Firefox 61.0.1

Pridané

Firefox changes Incredible PBX (PBX in a flash) tab key for password behavior.

After upgrade from Ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04 (with 17.10 upgrade between), Firefox web browser behavior changed. New browser is 61.0.1.

I tried to get into my Incredible PBX via the web, using its IP address. I get normal icons and it's ok that far. But when I type in the userid and try to tab into the password area, the cursor temporarily goes to the password field, then bounces back to the user id field.

Again, this was working before the 18.04 upgrade. Also note that the same failing actions work on the Chrome browser on the same upgraded machine.

Hi, I have no idea what PBX is and I can not find a Extension called Tab Key. If need help please use the proper names of the Extensions.

As well Mozilla ok's Developers Extensions to be used with Firefox and supplies a website to distribute them from. Each of these web pages has information about the Developers Support Page and also a Contact page.

Please use them as Firefox Support does not do Developers work. If it is making Firefox work adversely we can help but with out proper names of the programs or a URL and that there are thousands upon X Extensions it is not possible to know them all or find them with out their proper names.

Try Firefox Safe Mode to TEST & see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu , click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

SafeMode-Fx35

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

It is possible that there add-on is not working as it has not been converted into the New Web API form of a Extension and there fore does not meet the requirements for use with Firefox. It seems that these 31 pages of Password Managers have submitted and passed : https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/search/?platform=linux&q=Password+Managers

Thanks for replies. Pkshadow: By Tab Key, I mean the keyboard 'TAB' key, not an extension. The Incredible PBX I have runs on a Raspberry PI and I'm only using Firefox to access this system on my internal network. There's no web extensions involved. The URL is a URL (192.168.1.35) assigned by me in my local Internet. I tried Safe Mode: same behavior.

What's really weird is that the Chrome browser works as before.

Tested on another machine. Found same Firefox 61.0.1 version on 16.04 Ubuntu working ok. upgraded to Ubuntu 17.10 working ok. Upgraded to Ubuntu 18.04 then exhibit same broken behavior (Chrome still ok). I did notice something. I have an old and new version of the Incredible PBX on another Raspberry PI. The old version's tab-key-to-password-box behavior is different than the new version's. In the new version the tab key will put the cursor into the password box, but then typed password only shows one '*' (star) instead of one star per keystroke and the password check fails. But Chrome still works in all cases. So the change in behavior between Ubuntu releases indicates something in the PB HTML code, though Chrome is tolerant of both renderings. I'll pursue with PBX author, but the fact that Chrome works and Firefox does not might portend other problems for Firefox as more people upgrade to Ubuntu 18.04. Thanks.

This is about using the Tab key to navigate between elements like input fields or links.

Maybe contact Incredible PBX for support if it works properly without using this application.

cor-el. I have contacted incredible PBX support, awaiting reply. The problem is definitely with their web page as I tabbed just fine on another web page (thanks for idea). Weird thing is that Chrome worked whereas Firefox did not.

I did a 'save as web page' of the PBX web page from Mozilla. Got over a dozen files. A few .js files, .png. My java script and web coding is very rusty, so I'll have to dedicate some time to wade through the scripts to see if I can pinpoint the password-related info.

Since I have a workaround, I'm not really worried about fixing for myself. But something changed upgrading Ubuntu to 18.04, so most useful thing for Firefox users might be to save this thread for a while, especially in case the problem is not just in the PBX, but in some artifact it uses that might show up in other applications. Hopefully there won't be many of us, but you know how aggravating it is to have something goofy happen after an upgrade.

I'll send this to Ubuntu, since it definitely follows the upgrade.

Thanks all.
