Photon Onboarding is simply the onboarding tour that Firefox shows new users when they update or install Firefox 57 or later for the first time.

I think the "Features" list on the Troubleshooting Information page* has the names and unique IDs of the "system" extensions. The corresponding folder on disk is either:

  • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\browser\features
  • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\browser\features

* To open, either:

  • "3-bar" menu button > "?" Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • (menu bar) Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter

Scroll down or use Find to get to the Features table.

As for what they all do, I don't know of a handy reference...

"Onboarding" refers to the feature tour you see when you first switch from Firefox 56 (or earlier) to Firefox 57 (or later) -- "Quantum" with the "Photon" UI. If you want to see the tour again, you usually can call it up by clicking a faded/embossed Firefox icon in the upper left corner of the new tab page.
