in every other editing utility the back arrow deletes. except Firefox why ?
It is most frustrating when editing text in Firefox ie writing emails then pressing the back arrow takes me back to a previous page and does not deleted characters .. except in here it seems !!

Hi, the Back Arrow has never ever used as a text/character delete it is always go back to previous web page.
You need to use the Backspace Key on the Keyboard to edit text/characters.

My apologies I was referring to the backspace key
My backspace key has no issue in FF when using Yahoo email or gmail so unless others are reporting this it seems this seems to be happening on your side only. Otherwise you need to check your keyboard configuration.
You can modify this pref on the about:config page.
- browser.backspace_action = 2
You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I accept the risk!" to continue.
