I have been using Thunderbird for many years, Monday the 15th it quit working for my gmail pop3 account , I don't recall anything updating and I didn't change anything . I then got a new password and tried to log in with no luck, works fine on imap but I cannot get signed in for some reason . What can I do to restore my pop3 service ?

and when you "web login" what do gmail tell you. They routimely "block" pop access simply so they can show you some message in your browser. I have no doubt that the Google security email is most relevant here. do you understand what it is telling you?
