New year, new effort because I never got a resolution before and no one has responded in a while.

have you checked under "background processes" - not apps, the first part, scroll down and have a look.

Every time I click a desktop shortcut to open a new FF windows (already one open, that be a new one), it adds a FF in background processes. If I click File, New Window, it doesn't seem to do it except once in a while, maybe once every 10 times or so (I'm not sure on that). I've had up to 30 before I found out what was happening. Started after the new FF 57 installed, never was a problem before. They can only be removed by deleting each one individually or by restarting the computer. Quitting FF and restarting does nothing. I can recreate this at will. I've tried all the recommended from my previous post with no success. Attached a screen shot, as you can see the use very little memory, but it still seems like a crash waiting to happen.

Please review my previous post before you make a suggestion so that there aren't a bunch of repeats. previous post: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1183462

Anyone? Anything? Have you checked your task manager background processes for FF?

Dell alienware 17, 4 months old, wasn't happening prior to update, windows 10, all programs kept updated.

If you did not reverse all things I asked you to do last time in about:config all changes you made carry forward as those changes are in your profile.

Besides the 1 person who posted in your previous post that was not suppose to be posting we have not heard of this and by no means is it common.

I also spoke about ghost processes but did not get into that in depth. Will look further into that.

I wonder did you fix the Video Card Driver stuff from previous post ? _______________________________________________ You are going to have to do this regardless : Create a new profile as a TEST to check if your current profile is causing the problem :

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem. Never work with original files.

___________________________________________________________________________ Also need you to do this please and post back the Malwarebytes Report : use more than 1 scanner as each uses diff tech :

Save your Report and google each before deleting anything as do not want to delete something you need, If need help :

Someone for this cpu only ?

sorry, don't understand the question. I'm not familiar with those, I'm guessing they came with FF, and what does "someone for this cpu only?" mean?

more options

I've done the new profile, no change, never transferred any settings since it was no different.

video driver - hah! - tried updating that stupid thing for days and finally gave up. either didn't find one automatically, or when I downloaded and tried to install it wouldn't let me. BUT, I just clicked update driver and it's now updated to 10/17/2017.

Malware, I'm pretty harsh on security. I haven't had malware or a virus in at least 5 years. I don't visit unknown sites, don't click on links in emails, and as you can see I use noscript in addition. reviewing the malware link, I have none of the markers listed . downloaded 2, no malware found by either. 0.

thanks for the ongoing efforts pkshadow...

That was for others here to make note of. Sorry about that as we did drop the ball on previous question. Your question pops into a list that Contributors have that need attention so anyone can pick the question to work on. I wanted it known there was 10 Firefox Features from about:support info as you have 10 background processes running. Wanted to draw notice as these might not be getting shut down. ____________ How are you making out on the An-malware scans and report as well as testing a new Profile to see if they are still in Task Manager after running with new Profile ??

more options

Ok thanks for the Profile Update and the Driver Update (glad got one) and the Anti-malware info. I have asked for someone to look at this but still as can see repeating you so it can be seen.

BTW, I don't notice any performance drop, conflicts, or any other issues with FF. it's working pretty flawless from what I can tell, just those dang background processes.

more options

Just to make sure please can you Right Click those (pick 2) background processes in Task Manager to make sure they lead back to Firefox.exe by Open File Location. Thanks.

Now just making sure here : are these background processes running when Firefox is shut down ? or Are they just running when when Firefox is ? Also What is going on in Processes when Firefox is running is there multiples running as a sub-process and as well these 10 are running also ? Malware has a way of sneaking in without you knowing. Are you running anti-virus and mal scanners?

the processes stay there until I manually delete each one, one at a time - or if I restart my PC. closing firefox changes nothing, not even if there is just one running and I close firefox, it stays there. - again, this is just in the background processes.

when I have multiple firefoxes running, I only show one instance in apps, it will usually have a number in parenthesis right now it shows (5)

I've run all updates I can, through Dell, through windows, and what pkshadow recommended. I'm sure there is some wee software that might need and update but I don't know what it could be. While I'm not a programmer level, I am more advanced than your typical user. I've done what I can unless you have a specific driver I should look at.
