What folder is a bookmark in?
I know, this question is around for 15 years. Reason I created this account is just to support other people not heard. Fact is: Alice's wonderful add-on 'Show Parent Folders' is no longer available, Firefox lost one of the MOST IMPORTANT FEATURES ever. There are two reasons, I never stopped using Firefox: I like the spirit behind (including the fact, I don't like Explorer, Chrome, Safari etc for many different reasons) and I had 'Show Parent Folders'. I'm not a developer, I can't program it myself. But I made hundreds of people happy when showing the 'Show Parent Folders'. If all the people using 'Show Parent Folders' would take time to comment here, you would understand, why this is important. So please reevaluate this feature quickly!

The people who answer questions here, for the most part, are other Firefox users volunteering their time (like me), not Mozilla employees or Firefox developers.
If you want to leave feedback for Firefox developers, you can go to the Firefox Help menu and select Submit Feedback... or use this link. Your feedback gets collected by a team of people who read it and gather data about the most common issues.
Many great add-ons were lost with the new version.
Here are your choices; 1) Contact its support and ask if they will update 2) Find a replacement 3) Downgrade to a prior Firefox 4) Do without
If you have found the bookmark via a search, but do not know what folder it is in then you can open this bookmark in a tab. You can open the bookmark in Offline mode (File > Work Offline) to prevent opening the link from internet. You can click the blue highlighted star to open the "Edit This Bookmark" dialog. This doorhanger shows details (properties) including in what folder the bookmark is located. You can open the full folder tree via the Down arrow button that is positioned outside the folder field and scroll down (drag the scroll thumb or use the mouse scroll wheel) until you see the selected folder.
Unfortunately, I don't think extensions can modify the Library window in Firefox 57+. An extension could build its own independent interface to search bookmarks, but I don't know if anyone has done that successfully yet. My search turned up one that looks like it has a good idea but the reviews are poor: Bookmarks Manager and Viewer.

Yes, I will drop the note to the support - but I still hope, that this forum is a source for the developers, too :-) I know about the idea of 'Edit Bookmarks'. This works fine, if you use just one folder depth. If a folder is in top folder, you just get the name of you folder but not the path to it. Think, I once had a look at the 'Bookmarks Manager and Viewer' but will doublecheck.

Actually, if you click the button to open the "folder tree" it should be fully expanded to the containing folder. I'm attaching an old screenshot pointing to that button since the icon is hard to describe.

Yes, indeed - this tool is not working in the end, limitations here and there. Good idea, badly constructed. Currently not worth taking time ...
Only thing I have at the moment, is https://my.xmarks.com - this one let you search in perfect way. Means: You have a search window, and the found items, once clicked, show in the tree. But I still dream of a better solution ...
