Are you talking about the same thing as the OP in this thread (Lilliac) was talking about  ? Are you by any chance using an add-on, such as 'Colorful Tabs' (which has just been migrated to Webextensions)  ?

Maybe you'd like to start your own thread - you can do so by clicking on the 'Ask a question' button at the top of this page, and then post a question.

downgraded to FF 56 for now, until i work out how to get the light theme to work ..

It would definately make a difference  !

I prefer a lighter contrast between the 'active tab' and the 'inactive tabs'. So, I switched using the "menu, add-on ,themes" process. (That is much easier on my eyes than the 'black color' for 'inactive tabs'.)

However, the contrast between the tabs now is almost too little. The 'active tab' has a thin blue line at the top of the tab - while the colors of all tabs are 'light gray'.

Is there a way to select a custom color for 'active' versus 'inactive' tabs. (Perhaps grey for active, but a medium blue for inactive - sort of like the older version of Firefox?)

It would be great if the tab colors could be set using 'about:config'!

Maybe something like: - browser.tabs.tab ACTIVE color;GRAY

(or WHITE, or LIGHT GRAY, etc.)

- browser.tabs.tab IN-ACTIVE color;BLUE

 (or BLACK, or DARK GRAY, etc.)

Or is there another way that exists to set tabs colors already?

Hi  ! You can change that dark color : 3-bar menu (or 'Tools') => Add-ons => Themes and choose the light theme ........ (way easier on the eyes  !)

You can also get to the themes manager (to choose default, light, dark, or other) by right-clicking the area near the address bar and choosing "Customize." The "Themes" menu is near the bottom of the page.

That's true.

But also : in Add-ons => Themes => 'Looking to personalize your
browser  ?' You'll find a lot of options there ......

Well, sorry to make you sad but Quantum's UI is an absolute dumpster fire. If I wanted ugly minimalist garbage that I can't customize I'd use trash tire browsers like Chrome or Edge. As it is, I'm simply not updating past Firefox 55 until Mozilla starts listening to it's user base again and lets us actually have some measure of control over how the browser looks and functions.

You can customize the heck out of it. You'll just have to work a little harder at it than before. Since you found time to dig up this thread and post a non-contributing comment, it seems you could do a little reading, too:

I post a reply bemoaning the fact that Firefox has made it harder or impossible to customize the UI to my liking, and your response is "well you basically have to hack the browser UI but it's technically possible but here you go because obviously the devs don't care!" Amazing.

Whether you hack the UI using an add-on or using a style rule file, you've been hacking it all along. Yes, creating a file is more work than click-click-clicking, but people are here to help, and you don't have to be a genius to copy and paste.

If you prefer to "wait and see," that's absolutely your call. There are a lot of proposals for how to enable extensions to make more UI changes, and for new built-in features, and they'll work their way through the process over the coming year. Maybe you'll see enough by next Spring to get back on board.

I found this thread with the developers sycophants spouting dribble by searching the term,

The developers seem to have decided what they wanted and left many, many users in the dust. Firefox is now admittedly ugly, still slower than Chrome on pages opened side by side, very much not configurable, insecure, and as has been stated on this very page, "an absolute dumpster fire". Usability is about UI enhancement, not interpreted statistics. People are asking for features like the ability to modify the interface to suit their perceived desired viewpoint, as they have been using versions from 1.0 up to the dumpster fire version, 57. Now the program looks like a spreadsheet, bad job.

I want my bookmarks bar over the top of the address bar. I want an extra toolbar at the bottom of the browser window, with buttons I choose on it. I want round cornered, different colored tabs sized below my choice of maximum width, with different appearance for different states (*viewed, loaded, etc) I want an external, working, configurable session manager I want tab bar below the address bar I want all config menus on the left side in a collapsed meta-menu, accessible by hitting F4 no matter which desktop operating system I want reworked addons to be called by one name, addons or extensions, not both with no seeming meaning nor difference to the term, WTF? I want the reworked addons to actually work I want to meet some of the developers one on one and discuss politeness....

Thank you both for your tips. I have chosen a new 'THEME' for the browser tabs which is better than the three defaults provided. I chose one called "IN THE BLUE SKY". It's a pleasing blue color. Importantly, the CONTRAST between the ACTIVE tab and the INACTIVE tabs is a bit better than the defaults. I was surprised at how many custom themes there are for the tabs!

However, I still am hoping to find a theme with a more pronounced contrast between the ACTIVE tab, and the INACTIVE tabs, but still has an eye pleasing and easily readable tabs. (The reason I want a more pronounced contrast is when I have 50 or more tabs open, and I either accidentally, or purposely, scroll through the INACTIVE tabs - I sometimes just want to get back to that ACTIVE tab, and when the tabs are scrolling quickly across the page - it can be hard to spot the ACTIVE tab if their is not a big contrast between them.)

Are there any options for CUSTOMIZING the theme COLORS myself?

Or I wish their was a way to manually mark my ACTIVE tab before I go looking for a new tab I think is somewhere in the tabs menu.

Asked, answered, and marked solved by the OP over a month ago.
