Can anyone give me some 'For dumb dumbs' step by step with no abbreviations instructions for killing my new browser hijacker Yahoo... I downloaded a couple of what looked like free antiviral programs... They were not free on further viewing...and another two, although different names where also the same company... After deleting them Yahoo appeared and took over. I can access Google by fiddling around but its results come up in Yahoo.

Obviously I have looked for it within 'Remove a program'... I have also gone into Windows/Programs/Mozilla Firefox/addons and cannot find anything that sniffs of Yahoo. I have also reverted my laptop to a previous date way back at the end of July.... Afterwards Yahoo was still taking over my searches.

It will even cut me out of viewing when I access help pages and Ive had to find what I was reading using the history menu section. It allows other searches that are not to do with slaying Yahoo.. lol.. Its like living with the enemy.

I have been reading some earlier help pages but I don't find what people are being advised to find. Or answers provided are questioned by others who suggest also deleting other files... I want to be confident in what I delete not hesitant etc..

Id hoped Firefox may have a magical add on especially for the Yahoo removal task as many are finding they have been taken over...but, sadly nothing came up..

So if anyone can help with solutions even if they are different to each other, I would like to look at everyone's ideas please. Again...please be very specific with the dumb dumb speak for me lol... no big techy talk etc.. ha ha.. Thank you.

I am sooo glad that I now have the list of your extensions   !

For there it is :   SearchAssist Incognito   !

In my very first post I asked you to look for ....... SearchAssist Incognito, and if it was there, to remove it.

It's a browser hijacker   !

Will you please remove it  ?

And, please, please make sure that you've run   all   malware scans that are mentioned.

Things should be back to normal after this.

All I have are questions, really. Like : Does the name 'AVG Safe Search' or 'AVG Secure Search' ring a bell  ?

In your system details I see : "Installed Plug-ins Too many to list... but not overloaded "

Would you list them anyway please  ?

In your first post you say : "Obviously I have looked for it within 'Remove a program'... I have also gone into Windows/Programs/Mozilla Firefox/addons and cannot find anything that sniffs of Yahoo." But have you also looked for   anything   that looks suspicious, even if it doesn't seem remotely related to Yahoo  ?

Would you do this :

Type in the address bar :   about:preferences That will take you to   "General' Under 'Startup' : Is 'Always check if Firefox is your default browser' checked  ? 'When Firefox starts' : what does it say there  ? 'Home Page' : what does it say there  ?

All I have are questions, really. Like : Does the name 'AVG Safe Search' or 'AVG Secure Search' ring a bell  ? Well yes...but anything with AGV in front of it would ring a bell but not necessarily the wrong one...

AGV stares us in the face every day... I gone through programs today and cannot find these two.In your system details I see : "Installed Plug-ins Too many to list... but not overloaded "

@Happy...answer to 12th Aug. 1.29 am... (I think my replies are times stamped USA time.)

'When Firefox starts' : what does it say there  ? 'Home Page' : what does it say there  ? Always checked... Usually I have 5 media headed tabs chosen to open when I open FFox... I took them off temporarily to see what I got without them... Screen shots below... Plus I also tried using the FF small search bar to see if the tabs were hindering the Google choice of search...No...I still got Yahoo.

Dearest Happy.... lol... You can tell by the way I am addressing you that you have solved my problem... Jolly well done.. When I was looking for this in the early stage I was only looking inside parts of 'Programs within my computer'... I did not look in FF Add Ons too.

Thank you so much for your determination and focus on this one... Lots of replies I see on this site are just cut and pastes which you avoided. Thanks for your patience. Very much appreciated your work on this...
