Install Older Version Of Firefox {web link} Be sure to read everything here.

If you still want to downgrade, look under; I still want to downgrade. Click the Directory of other versions and languages link. Look for the directory of the version that you want. But, remember that old versions may have security issues.

But if you're adamant to hang on to the Adobe Reader :   FredMcD's suggestion about Firefox ESR version sounds like a good idea.

I have the same issue. Adobe Reader 11.0.08.4 is blocked in FF ESR 52.3.0.

It's the last version of Adobe Reader to run on Windows XP SP3. Please remove the block! I have to save the file then open it manually with Adobe Reader 11.0.08.4. I understand the risk issue and I am managing it! Let ME decide what is right for me!

Mozilla adds versions of Plugins to blocklist when they are severe enough on compromising Firefox security, stability, or performance and meets other certain criteria to resort to blocking. They do not block them just because they are old versions.

Please Read the post again.

Aoresteen is using Firefox 52.3.0 ESR as you can see in reply and Not the Firefox 52.0 Release you concluded.

Firefox 52 ESR does allow you to use other Plugins like you can with Firefox 51.0 and earlier Releases.

Windows users using Win64 Firefox 52 ESR however will only allow the 64-bit Flash Player and Silverlight to run. So to use other Plugins with Firefox on Windows you need to use 32-bit Firefox 52.0 ESR and 32-bit Plugins which is what Aoresteen is using due to WinXP.

This is very well known and something you should know for over six months now. Also the link you posted twice shows the option of using Firefox 52 ESR (to use Plugins) at end of article.

Firefox 52.8.0esr is scheduled for May 2018 which is when Firefox 60.0 is released.

I have looked high & low for a solution. Again I am using ESR 52.3.0. Every time I click on a PDF link, FF wants to save it. When I go to TOOLS ---> Add-ons, the entry for Adobe Acrobat will NOT let me select "Always Activate". My only options are "Ask To Activate" & "Never Activate". It is set to "Ask to Activate " yet FF never asks to activate, it brings up a SAVE FILE dialog.

I need to have it set to "ALLWAYS ACTIVATE" but that option is greyed out.

How do I get FF 52.3.0 ESR to let me set Adobe Acrobat to "ALLWAYS Activate"?

Thanks for the background information. So what is the solution? PDF is the defacto document type for the internet. How can ESR users preview PDF docs in FireFox?

Hello all Adobe Reader users:

If you have version 11.0.08 from 2014 you need to update within the 11.x series to the October 2017 release(s).

Go into your Adobe Reader XI (11), click the Help menu, then Check for Updates. Adobe Reader should update itself to this recent patch release:

11.0.22 http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotes/11/11.0.22.html

If the automatic update does not work, try downloading the quarterly update:

11.0.21 http://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/ReleaseNotes/11/11.0.21.html

Once Adobe Reader has updated itself, the next time you close Firefox and open it up again, Firefox should discover the updated file and release the block. You can check the Add-ons page, either:

• Ctrl+Shift+a (Mac: Command+Shift+a)
• "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. On the right side, look for "Adobe Acrobat" and if necessary change "Never Activate" to "Ask to Activate".

I downloaded Adobe Reader 11.0.21 and installed it. Then I did the patch to 11.0.22.

I then re-started FF and set Adobe Reader to always activate. Now PDFs open in FF ESR 52.3.0 :)

I checked Adobe's site. For WIndows XP SP3 they STILL provide version 11.0.08 to download. Ugh!

Adobe only has a limited set of Adobe Reader versions for download available. That is why you always need to check for updates in case you need to (re)install the Adobe Reader and then check for updates to get the latest version.
