Clicking on 'Stop it' or 'Wait" only temporarily removes the warning message. The presence of a web page as stated in the warning makes no sense to me.

This is a revised version of the old "unresponsive script" pop-up message. Unfortunately, it doesn't show the detail of what script is causing the problem, so it's difficult to determine whether it is something in the site or an add-on, for example.

Another common cause of unresponsive script errors on Windows Vista-10 is the protected mode feature of the Flash player plugin. That feature has security benefits, but seems to have serious compatibility issues on some systems. You can disable it using the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Plugins. On the right side, find "Shockwave Flash" and click the More link. Then uncheck the box for "Enable Adobe Flash protected mode" and try that for a day to see whether it helps. (Note: The 64-bit version of Firefox for Windows does not have this checkbox.)

As a side note, thank you for sharing your browser add-ons. There's a weird thing going on with Flash on your system, as Firefox has discovered all of these versions:

  • Shockwave Flash 18.0 r0
  • Shockwave Flash 19.0 r0
  • Shockwave Flash 20.0 r0
  • Shockwave Flash 21.0 r0
  • Shockwave Flash 25.0 r0

When multi-process windows in Firefox is enabled then Firefox will use more memory and may be less responsive. Try to disable multi-process windows in Firefox to see if that has effect.

You can disable multi-process windows in Firefox by setting these prefs to false on the about:config page.

  • browser.tabs.remote.autostart = false
  • browser.tabs.remote.autostart.2 = false

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.
