I cannot get PDFs to view or download. I have a 2015 iMac running OS X El capitan and Foxfire 50.0. I have tried all the options described... at a loss

I have tried to use the built-in PDF Download and the Adobe Acrobat DC - Create PDF. In web searching I have found that the PDF Download is no longer compatible with 50.0 Firefox. And that the Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Version 15.0 also causes problem in Mozilla support docs.

I am at a loss.
