After installing Firefox 32 in a Pupy Linux variant (Tahrpuppy), I was able to updade it to Firefox 45.0.2. Following an update of relevant repositories to add needed packages for GTK3, I was able to update firefox to the current version of 49.0.1. Unfortunately, in this latest version the context menus that appear by placing the cursor over the icons found to the right of the search box (bookmarks, download, home page, pocket button, and open menu) do not come up. In their place, empty black boxes appear which normally would contain text explaining the function relating to each of the said icons. Incidentally, this behavior was not the case with Firefox 32 and firefox 45.0.2 where the context menus for the said icons appear normally. Running a Google search for this problem brought up some articles recommending the creation of a new firefox profile and deleting previous ones. I decided to give this a try and along the way I was prompted by a Mozilla support page to try refreshing firefox as an easier approach to solving my problem. Unfortunately refreshing firefox did not solve my problem. This left me with the creation of a new firefox profile as my last option. Unfortunately, following directions from Mozilla support on how to open the firefox profile manager did not work as the latter failed to open. Thus the need to seek community help.

Addendum: I have just noticed that all would-be context menus appear as empty black boxes no matter where the respective icon or link that the cursor hovers over may appear.
