I did take a screenshot, but for some reason I am not able to upload it. It says "uploading..." and I get the spinning wheel graphic, but it never completes.

The banner looks like it is part of Firefox. On the left of it, there a small red heart graphic overlaid with what looks like an EKG reading, then the question, "Want to try something new in Firefox?" This is followed by a button labeled, "Get it now." Over on the right of the banner, there is a hyperlink that says, "Learn more." (In the thread title, I wrote that this hyperlink was labeled "more info," but I was mistaken.)

I didn't mean to download anything, but the first time this banner appeared, I mistakenly clicked on the hyperlink that said "Learn more," and it led to a page that appeared to be broken. Does that mean my OS is toast? :(

Looks like I can upload the screenshot using a different browser. Sorry that I didn't think of that earlier...

The snapshot problem was with the Mozilla site. It has been fixed.

I don't know that message. Try using the Learn More link.

The first time the message appeared, I did click on the "learn more" link, but it led to a web page that seemed to be broken. Unfortunately, I was careless and didn't record the URL.

Just to be clear, this message isn't a constant presence. It has appeared twice in the last week, but restarting Firefox made it go away both times.

That heart icon looks like one Mozilla sometimes uses for surveys, but images are easily stolen so that doesn't necessarily mean it's official.

If you modify the zoom level on the page by holding down the Ctrl key and pressing + three times, does that bar zoom? If so, it's part of the page. If not, it's likely to be from the browser. Note: this isn't a conclusive test because pages can use scripts to counter zoom, but it would be one clue.

To undo that, hold down the Ctrl key and press - three times.

It just appeared for the third time, so I tried jscher2000's magnification test, and the banner did not enlarge with the rest of the page.

So I then clicked on "learn more," and it led me to this address: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/shield_study_5%26utm_campaign%3Dshield-study-context-graph-v1

I messed up the screenshot somehow, but here it is:

Thanks. That makes me feel a little better, since the "learn more" link is the only part I have clicked on.

So can anyone say for sure whether or not this banner is a legitimate part of Firefox? I'm thinking no, because it is vaguely worded and I can't find any info about it anywhere.

If you are not sure about something, don't use it.

Note: Some fake pages will use real links to real sites with the 'more information' links, but use bad links for the item.

I just want to know how to get rid of it permanently. It keeps showing up.

It pops down from the top on my home page when I start my browser . It didn't do it today, maybe they got a lot of complaints.
