Firefox typing, scrolling, and video lags.

I updated Firefox from 45 to 47, and since then I have been experiencing lag problems. Scrolling is jagged; the screen does not update for a second or more. Typed text does not appear for a second and a half, even if it is only one letter typed. Web video on YouTube and Vimeo will show mostly only a series of still frames even when the video is fully loaded, though audio is unaffected.

I tried disabling all addons and reinstalling Firefox, but neither had an effect. I read similar problems were caused by hardware acceleration being enabled, but toggling this had no effect, either. It can't be connection speed, because local about pages are also slow, and it can't be my computer being slow, because VLC can run video just fine while Firefox is running. Is there some sort of graphical setting I am missing?

I am using Linux. Also, not sure if these problems are related, but the handle on the right scrollbar is invisible, and selected text has no outline, neither of which were a problem before I updated Firefox.

Never mind, fixed. Looking at Firefox 47's release notes , it says they have disabled XRender, which my Linux machine must rely on to make fonts, etc. render properly. I fixed it by toggling gfx.xrender.enabled to true in about:config.
