Goofy cursor movement in Ubuntu Linux
I'm getting big confusion in 46.0.1 in Ubuntu (NOT the system I'm on right now. Scrolling is inconsistent and frustrating.

MOUSE WHEEL SCROLLING - I've got scrolling by mouse wheel working as I want it on normal pages like Facebook, Google result pages, etc. (one rotation click = one page)
However, in, for lack of a better name, "list" pages, like my webmail AOL pages or the about:config pages, the scrolling is too short. On the webmail page, it's two display lines only. On about:config, it's three lines.
i want everything at one full page.

The keyboard keys are much more goofy.
ARROW KEYS
- - Facebook, etc. - As I want them at 3 lines - -"List" pages - OK at one line at a time

PAGE UP / DOWN
- - fine at one page on Facebook, Google results, etc. - -"List" pages - First key press (either one) gets me zero or one line, depending on what test page I'm using. Second gets about one page, third = 1 page, Fourth = zero to one line, fifth = one page, sixth = 1 page, seventh = 1 line, and so on.
"Page Up / Down" should get one full page every time, either direction.
- - On the "List" pages only, on the times when full page movement happens, it moves about the full page, and then sometimes jumps another couple lines or so down. - - Also, page up / down won't work multiple times (repeat) when it's held down for several pages worth. Maybe keyboard repeat is out pacing FireFox and confusing it?
How can I exorcise the spooks from this ?!?

Is this with the Firefox version from the Ubuntu repositories or the Firefox version from the Mozilla server?
Try the Firefox version from the official Mozilla server if you currently use a version from the repositories of your Linux distribution.
Create a new profile to test if your current profile is causing the problem.

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over problems.
I tried a new profile. It's worse, being before the changes I made.
I checked the version and updates, it is the latest number. Might I still get improvement with the official FireFox version?
Can I install two versions together on the same machine? If I do, and uninstall the one I don't want, will it also wipe out the good one?
Is there an official 64 bit Linux/Ubuntu version? I thought the repository one was 64 bit. Is the repository 32 or 64 bit? Is the way to tell 32 or 64 the same on Ubuntu?
The Ubuntu machine is where I will be tomorrow.

On Linux it is easy to install multiple versions because Firefox comes as a tar.bz2 archive. You only need to extract the files in this archive to a folder on your computer. The repositories likely only offer the version for your Linux OS. If you have a 64 bit Linux version then this will be a 64 bit Firefox version. The Mozilla server has both the 32 bit and 64 bit Firefox version.
It is always best to use separate profiles for each Firefox version to be on the safe side. Ubuntu usually modifies its version offered via the repositories, so it is worth to check out the Mozilla server version. You can also check extensions that Ubuntu adds to Firefox and disable them.
Will the official version install also set itself up for updates, or do I have to do it? If so, how?

Yes the official Linux builds of Firefox from mozilla.org get updates in Firefox.
Just make sure the Firefox folder has read/write permissions. A easy way around this is to Firefox folders in /home
