How do I make Firefox on Mac respond to my first click?

OS/X gives two options for programs to respond to clicks when the window being clicked is not in focus. Either the first click can just bring the window into focus and then be thrown away, or the first click can bring the window into focus and then be processed by the program as an ordinary click in the window. The method is summarised here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/128015/make-osx-application-respond-to-first-mouse-click-when-not-focused Mac Firefox (v41) as standard implements the first option, focus-and-throw-away on first click. I find this clunky, especially as most of the other programs I use implement the second option. I keep hitting buttons and links in Firefox and being confused as to why nothing happened. Is there a way for me to have Firefox respond fully to the first click? Thanks!
