Places Maintenance {web link} Allows to run Maintenance tasks on the database that drives Places, the bookmarks and history module behind Firefox.

On the computer with the problem,

Yes, in Safe Mode the problem is still there.

The "Places Maintenance" extension has not worked, it is frozen while performing the "executing maintenance tasks ...".

And has not worked uninstall completely Firefox (including C: \ Users \ ....... \ AppData \ Roaming \ Mozilla) and reinstall.

Additionally, in the general homepage firefox, not only the search bar is not working, the lower icons neither do (Downloads, History, Sync, etc.).

If it can help, when trying to import a "jon file" appears the message "Failed parsing of file backup".

Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.

Type about:support in the address bar and press enter.

Under the page logo on the left side you will see Application Basics. Under this find Profile Folder. To it’s right press the button Show Folder. This will open your file browser to the current Firefox profile. Now Close Firefox.

Locate the places.sqlite file. Then rename or delete it. Restart Firefox.

Once this is done, you can recreate bookmarks from auto-backups.

I have encountered similar problems after uploading Windows 10. I am operating a Home -64 Bit OS on an HP Notebook. Looking in the Security and Maintenance Page it suggested restoring without loss of files etc. The programs lost included Microsoft Visual C ++ 2005 Redistributable 8.0.56336, Mozilla Firefox 40.0.03 ( x 86 en-GB ) 40.0.03, Mozilla Maintenance Service 40.0.3.5716, Skype Web Plugin 7.5.0.127. Having completed this exercise the problems seem to have been solved to some extent. But still having problems in Settings as Windows Defender has greyed out with an error message saying it has been turned off but without identify the full reason.

I've already tried the solutions related to the file "places.sqlite" without result.

I think that there is a compatibility problem with some recent update of Windows 10, because it is the only thing I've done in the tablet in recent weeks, and in addition, problems in firefox are several, not just those related to bookmarks.

I wouldn't return to Windows 8, so it seems I must expect future versions to work correctly for me.
