I have the obnoxious "offers4u" in my face and I need to remove it from my MAC Pro. Please tell how. THANKS.

I read through the info about people using WIndows, but didn't find help for my Mac. Don't know how to proceed. It is a SERIOUSLY obnoxious bit of uninvited marketing which pops up all over previously reliable pages....

It could be the work of one of your add-ons, or even add / mal-ware. Look thru your add-ons list and make sure you know what each one is there for. Also, check the list of programs that are on your computer. Go thru the list and use a web search to check any that you don't know what they are.

Note that your System Details list shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts.

The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there. You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: Open with) if you didn't create this file yourself.

The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.

Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.

The reset did the trick!!! How nice. Thanks. I'm so glad I didn't have to get more complicated. Does anyone know where that nasty piece of marketing comes from -- I mean, how does it get onto someone's computer?

It’s very sad, but many of the software down-loaders / installers will trick you into installing not only their program, but other programs as well. You have heard of the fine print in shady contracts, right? Well, some installers you need to look at the itsy bitsy teeny weeny fine print. You are thinking you are giving the installer permission to install the program you want by using the recommended option. But if you use the Manual Option Instead, you discover all kinds of stuff that you do not even know what it is or what it does. From now on, everyone needs to Use The Manual Option to put a stop to this.
