My bookmarks disappeared, where are they?

I am using Firefox 5.x and 6.x on three different computers, and I am using Sync. They were all synced as of yesterday, this morning I woke up and I have no bookmarks on any of my computers. What happened?

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
