firefox hangs loading some websites it used to 0pen easily without hanging

I have been using firefox on my home computer running windows vista. Yesterday, it wouldn't open it's home page but would open some pages. Only a minority of bookmarked sites will it open. All that happens is the home page tab starts to load but quits and the screen stays white.

When I switch users and open the computer as one of my kids, it works fine...which is how I'm able to visit this support site and send messages to you.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling firefox but that didn't change anything.
