On firefox home page, the "+" add site link (bookmark) doe snot work

I have no bookmarks on my firefox home page; CCleaner removed them. I have since stopped using CCleaner, but I'm trying to restore the home page bookmarks. I see the "+" sign, and when I click it, a box form opens. I enter the site name and URL, and click submit, but nothing is created. I have rebooted and tried many times, but the add button does not do anything. I only want 5 or 6 links, but I can't even place one.

Hello

Maybe, try 1 - Go to configuration editor https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/about-config-editor-firefox 2 - Enter a search term browser.newtabpage.pinned and click the Delete Button (the Trash icon) Restart Firefox Add Shortcut

For information, about, browser.newtabpage.pinned https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1526897#answer-1753742

I don't understand. I'm an old man. Could you explain better.
