Cannot restore bookmarks-- get an "Unable to process file " message

I'm running the current version (144.0, 64-bit) on a Dell Inspiron laptop. Just now, I tried to save a bookmark, but I found that a goodly number (not all) of my bookmark folders had disappeared. When I tried to restore from a Firefox backup, I got an "Unable to process file" message. What's wrong , how do I fix it, and how do I get the missing bookmarks back?

Is the Windows Security platform the same as Windows Defender, or some other system component?

Folks, I finally found some help on this site. I did the following:

  • I updated the Windows Security platform;
  • I rebooted my computer; and
  • I restarted Firefox.

My missing bookmarks and bookmark folders reappeared, and everything seems normal now.

No, they aren't the same thing; Windows Security Platform used to be called "Windows Defender", but now that name applies to a more advanced product, which (I believe but am not certain) you have to pay for.
