Mouse middle click not opening new tabs

After updating my Mac's Firefox browser to v 92.0, the mouse middle click stopped opening hyperlinks on new tabs; instead, it goes back to the previous page.

The config command (browser.tabs.opentabfor.middleclick) was correctly set (True), and toggling between T/F (and restarting) made no difference.

Can you help me sort this out?
