how to reduce the length of the normal tab, not when with multiple tab?

There is a pref to set the minimum width of a tab.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can click the button to "Accept the Risk and Continue".

You can reduce the height a bit if you select "Density: Compact" via the customize page.
