Google search field is dead in Firefox new tabs. Why do updates always break what isn't fixed?

Chosen solution

I hate it when Firefox downloads a new edition as I know that it always gets rid of a feature that I use successful. I go to Firefox and the search bar in the middle of the page pops up using Google that was how it has been for many years. Now when you type in what you are looking for it immediately goes to a search bar at the top of the page and NOT in the Firefox search bar, also it lists other suggestions which I do not want. How can I go back to the way it was with me typing my search to the left of the Firefox logo???

Please explain the problem in detail. What happens? What is/are the exact error message(s) ?

Well... Try it yourself... Open Firefox browser on Windows 10. Next, open a new tab by clicking the + at top of page. In new tab page - set to Firefox default - cursor will no longer begin in main Google search field, but rather in new obligatory search/address field at top of page. Attempting to perform a Google search from the original, standard Google search field in the top center of page, does not return any error message but is simply inactive. Typing text and hitting enter key to perform search, does absolutely nothing. If you put the cursor back up in the URL field of the browser, the Google search performs normally.

In the settings, the default address selection for a new tab has been eliminated and now has only Firefox default as sole obligatory setting.

There is a new extension available to override this, which allows for one to again choose any desired page for a new tab and which again allows the cursor to begin in the standard Google search field and makes the Google search functional again from that main search field.

This is the New Tab Override Extension:
