The browser starting hanging, then crashing (it does both) after the last update. I just built my computer 2 weeks ago and all drivers are current. I am running an AMD with Nvidia chips. It is a MSI motherboard.

No other browser crashes. Your browser crashes randomly, but I can sometimes replicate it at https://www.cloudflare.com/ when I click on DNS or Crypto. It also crashes on youtube and randomly on any website. It seems to be stable for a minute before it crashes.

I have disabled hardware acceleration and reinstalled firefox and even reset it. Nothing works for me. The Dev version does the same thing.

This is what happens, the cursor will start spinning and the computer will hang, then crash, or simply crash without warning.

Any suggestions?

You are using a beta version, so there may be problems.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

While still in Safe Mode,

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP- in front of the numbers/letters, click it to submit them.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

Using your mouse, mark the most recent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Press the Reply button. Now go to the reply box and paste them in.

I have seen the browser crash in safe mode. In safe mode, sometime I can enter a URL and press then Enter key and nothing happens! I have to click on the little arrow to make it goto the website. FF is really driving me crazy. I'm a developer and I do not have time for crashes or hangs.

Yesterday I forced e10 on just playing around, so if you see that in the logs, ignore it. It was just turned on yesterday and yes it did still crash. I am a political person. I refuse to use MS or Google products, so I am beginning to use Opera. Somebody, please shoot me.

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Options/Preferences -> Advanced -> General -> Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

You can check if there is an update for your graphics display driver and check for hardware acceleration related issues.

You can also try to set accessibility.force_disabled to 1 on the about:config page.

You can open the about:config page via the location/address bar. You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

I have tried every single suggestion. I even uninstalled and reinstalled FF again and reset it a few times.

My memory is fine. All tests were negative for errors. I made the config setting in FF. I even disabled all of my addons. All of my drivers are current per my motherboards and graphics card updating tools.

I'm not sure if it is still crashing. I can't get that far. Now my bookmarks will not sync, nor will they import from the Chrome browser. I cannot add new bookmarks. These problems are driving me crazy.

I was seeing another problem before I reinstalled: when I enter a URL, the Enter key would not work. I would have to click the go button to execute the url or search.

I have ever other brower under the sun installed and they all work flawlessly.

HI, less technical but : Did you or did you not Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files ?

What version Firefox are you now running as it was suggested that you get rid of the Beta Version ? If still running a Beta then this belongs in that forum.

I am reviewing your last crash report and it is showing window files to be crashing. Also shows all of Firefox crashing on you.

I am running 54.0.1 64bit non beta. sfc /scannow showed no errors. Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth : No problems Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth : stated that the store was repairable, so I fixed it. I ran it again and it was fine. I also ran sfc again. Everything is fine.

The bookmarks will not synch or import or work at all.

The problems seemed to start when a new version was pushed out.

I spoke too soon. I reinstalled windows and even cleaned my SSD drive first. FF is working better but it just crashed for no reason. I am thinking that it is the graphics card. Here is the new error.

Does this make sense to anyone? It appears to be crashing less now and the bookmarks are back lol
