Hello, I have a verizon.net email address that was moved over to AOL and it was working well for a long time until a few months ago when AOL did some changes and for some reason the password I enter on Thunderbird is not accepted but the same password is working on the website

Today I happened to find others on this site that have the same problem and one suggestion was to change the authentication method to Oauth2 which I did and it accepted the password and I can receive emails now but the outgoing is still not working because there is no Oauth2 in the drop down list for the outgoing server so I cannot change it

Is there another solution or workaround for this ?

This is probably a FAQ, although I can find no mention of the question using the search facility, so here goes...

I am just starting to use Thunderbird for my Usenet groups, having finally given up on Forte Agent. I don't seem to be able to find a way to define a filter to run across all subscribed groups - if I define it to operate on the news server (tweaknews) then it doesn't work on ANY of the groups. Surely I'm not expected to define the same filter for every single group, individually? What am I missing?

Dear Mozilla;

I hate to keep bothering you, but I think we have found a solution to my blind friend's problem with his NVDA screen reader saying Property Page in Mozilla Thunderbird (version 68.x) whenever he brings up an e-mail message in the inbox, or presses the Tab key. He cannot use a mouse...only the computer's keyboard.

Looks like my blind friend was right when he told me that the Property Page thing is not NVDA's problem. I happened to remember a different free e-mail program I tried out for a while some time ago and I downloaded it and installed it onto a Windows 8 Laptop computer that I was given, and then configured it for my own E-mail account. I then downloaded and installed NVDA (version 2021.2) onto the same laptop, and then played around with the new free e-mail program for about 30 minutes.

No matter what I did in the new free e-mail program, NVDA never did say the words Property Page. So it looks like to me now that the problem lies somewhere with Mozilla Thunderbird and not the NVDA screen reader. On my blind friend's computer, the Property Page thing on Mozilla Thunderbird just started up 2-3 months ago. Before that, NVDA never said it.

I don't understand why NVDA says Property Page in Thunderbird, since I have never seen those words in any of the e-mails my blind friend has gotten.

I've exported most of my past emails to my computer as my email storage was getting full. I exported them all to a file folder in Windows Explorer. Unfortunately these files don't have their original date attached to them (date created/modified/accessed etc shows the date they were exported) - you have to open the file in order to see the date the email was received. Is there a way to organize them by date? The search feature in Windows Explorer is not doing it - if I put in "2021" it finds all files with those numbers but that's not necessarily the date they were received.

Not sure if this is the right place to go but any ideas would be appreciated!

I have a gmail account going back to 2010 that I'd like to use Thunderbird as a "live backup" for.

It's completed importing all the messages over imap but when I compare the search results for simple and unambiguous search terms in Thunderbird vs in gmail, Thunderbird is missing a lot. Examples:

"[friend]@gmail.com" -- hundreds of results going back to 2015, then a few in 2014, then nothing earlier. Gmail shows hundreds of results in 2014 and 2013 as well.

"2011": lots of results from 2012 onwards, but only 4 results that are actually from the year 2011.

"2010": results look plausible on the timeline (hundreds of results in 2010, 2011, 2012) but clicking into 2010 shows that the earliest results are in October. In gmail the earliest results are in March.

Any suggestions on troubleshooting?

During an update for some reason now all my photo, pdf, or other media files are not visible. To see them I have to forward the message and before sending copy or view the pdf, media, photos etc.. I did not do anything knowingly to start this issue. Have been using thurnderbird since before it was called thurnderbird. Don't want to loose my favorite email program as I absolutely hate outlook and its privacy intrusions. I have tried everything suggestion on help I can find and have entered question several times on thunderbird instructions to get assistance. So far no reply to any attempt on my part. This has been going on for many weeks now. What do I have to do to correct this problem. This is the third time I have submitted this inquiry over the last couple of weeks and still no response or reply or email from anyone at Mozilla, Thunderbird or support. Help. Regards, ECC

I have two imports for two email addresses I use, in addition I also had a localhost area with Inbox, Deleted etc and the inbox was populated in TB from output from postfix that was sourced from processes running under crontab.

Now I can see these messages using mail but I cannot see a mechanism to inport into TB.

This was working prior to a recent TB update but with the latest 91.2? the localhost settings have all gone (the folders are still present) and the process to transfer these postfix msgs do not appear to be present, or is it just me ?

I have created a localhost but how to do this seem to not be present.

I have really become disillusioned with this email program, which I have used for many years on my Windows computers.

I have 5 email addresses; 3 of those were rendered inaccessible with the June update to Thunderbird; only the first and last addresses work now (or did, until today's update: 91.3.2, see below). Four email identities are handled by Zoho.com, the 5th is a gmail account. If I shift the order of the email accounts in Thunderbird, again only the first and last accounts are able to log into email, the others are rejected as having incorrect passwords.

The correct passwords are stored in Thunderbird, they are again rejected when re-entering them as requested by Thunderbird.

I have been screwing around with this issue for 5 months and have not been able to resolve it. I also have 2 laptops with Thunderbird installed. Regrettably all 3 computers were set for automatic updates to Thunderbird, and all have had the same issue since June, despite no changes/alterations on my part.

Today I updated to the latest release (91.3.2) on my desktop computer. I don't recognize the initial user screen now. Thunderbird only displays one of my email accounts, dunno what happened to the other 4 which are still in Account Settings. Also, my access to local folders is gone with this new release (or at least not obvious... all accounts and local folders used to appear on the left column).

I have no idea of how to revert to earlier Thunderbird releases, and my research has not revealed that secret.

Thunderbird has gone downhill in a hurry these past 5 months, and I haven't found a way to fix it. I would switch to another email product except that my Thunderbird local folders of saved emails would be gone forever (actually, this latest update may have rendered them inaccessible, so that issue may be moot).

Aaarrgghh, why are these people screwing up a perfectly good product??? At the very least, they could provide a way to save the prior version of the users' Thunderbird (and the users settings/preferences) before destroying it, maybe even make that save/restore a mandatory part of the update.

Just for grins I clicked on "Events and Tasks/Export" a moment ago... nothing happened.

Messages that have been sent or received we are able to open the PDF attachment. I have deleted the Preferences in the settings for PDF type files many times and still unable to open a attachment. It's important to be able to open a attachment before a mail is sent to confirm the document is correct Please assist.

Error Message

C:\Users\Russell\AppData\Local\Temp\nsmail.pdf could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences.

Why does Thunderbird rely on an external add-on to simply print all the emails in one folder into ONE PDF file? I do not understand, for the Life of me, why it is so. The only reason I continue to use Outlook is because of this one, simple task. I don't use the built-in PDF generator, because it has issues. I just select all of the emails I want to slap into a PDF file, click "Print", select CutePDF Write, and away it goes.

I love Mozilla and donate whenever I run into a really kewl thing the team has solved or improved. But this is a bugger for me, simply because no one cares to give a proper answer. "Go get the add-on..." Well, I did and it didn't work. In fact, I had to uninstall TBird and re-download ALL the emails again because the add-in wouldn't go away.

I've heard "but, PDFs are difficult." My thought: if you can spit out individual PDFs, you can spit out one, long PDF. Microcrap figured it out over a decade ago, yet it stymies the mozilla team. Amazing. Being a Cobol writer from days gone by, it sounds like a simple loop exit problem that we used to have with line printers.

And I can't be the only person who wants/needs this feature. I am constantly pulling old invoices or receipts from my email archives, which is a thumb drive full of folders. Each year has a folder and inside, each YYYY-MM has a PDF. There are WAY too many emails to keep on a server, from a security and storage POV. And who has the time to waste because the app can't find the email I KNOW is in there, because I just saw it 10 minutes ago! Acrobat once found Jimmy Hoffa...well, it was a concrete column, but "same difference."

My drive of PDFs goes with me wherever I go, so I know the data is safe. As long as I have a computer with email and a PDF reader, I can get my work done. But, so far only Microcrap has been able to crack the ancient and forever elusive problem of shoving a bunch of emails into a single, portable document. Sad, really. Every time I open my email, I look at the Outlook logo and sigh.

I'm trying to clean up my profile as it's ballooned to 300GB and I have 3 different e-mails in my main (and only) thunderbird profile. 2 of these e-mails are not being used so I would like to separate the 3 emails into individual profiles and store the 2 inactive e-mail's data onto a separate hard drive if I ever need them.

How do I go about doing this? I've looked through this webpage, youtube and a few other resources and I haven't found the instructions.

However, I am not able to run programs from my previous computer. It only has data written to disk. So how do I transfer all my data to the new Mozilla Thunderbird on a dead computer? I have several gmail accounts in Thunderbird and have been using for years with no problem. Suddenly just one of them stopped downloading emails, so I deleted the account from Thunderbird and tried to re-add. Now it keeps saying 'unable to login to server, probably wrong configuration, username or password.'

I have checked several times that all is correct but still can't put this account back on. Its driving me insane now. Any ideas gratefully received! Thanks Shirl

A couple of days ago, the quick filter bar stopped working. Type anything in and nothing is filtered. It appears to have no action.

As an aside, I notice if you toggle view > toolbars > quick filter bar the quick filter search box does not appear and disappear (as it should). However, if you toggle it off and then restart thunderbird it does come back without the quick filter search box.

Any ideas?

V91 running on windows 7.
