Hi,

I am a longtime Thunderbird user. I am using the latest update of the software. Suddenly, out of the blue, I am getting this error message on just ONE email account.

The account *** is being processed. Please wait until processing is complete to get messages.

I have 3 other email accounts which are downloading normally. I have not made any changes to my computer/Thunderbird or done anything different. I just opened mail this morning and have had the issue all day long.

I frequently get this error message on the first attempt at sending an email:

Sending of the message failed. The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.gmail.com timed out. Try again.

The 2nd attempt works.

I have installed the latest version of Thunderbird and set up my email account "@me.com" I can download emails and syncing works well, but I cannot send emails from Thunderbird. I have read various forums and tried numerous tips and suggestions to solve the problem but none of them work for me. Please see the attached picture of the error message I get. I have Thunderbird Version 115.2.3 (64-bit) on Windows 10 Enterprise 10.0.19045 I appreciate your help on fixing this issue since I really want to use Thunderbird, but without the ability to send email it is unfortunately not an option for me.

and after repair inbox folder messages shows up again (if filter have move to another folder option)

Since installing Supernova, I find a huge (multiple minute) delay whenever I open a folder to a new tab or window. There was zero delay on the prior version to open a folder, so it appears to be specific to Supernova. I'm surprised that no one else has mentioned it on the forums yet, so it seems it might just be something about my particular setup. Can anyone help me diagnose what I might be doing wrong?

In the Profiles directory, under the correct folder for my account, I have a file called inbox which seems to contain all my emails. Unfortunately, that email is 4.9 Gb in size! I have moved a whole bunch of emails (several thousand) out of my inbox into an subfolder of Archives and then compacted the inbox folder, but seems to have made no difference at all. So, how do I decrease the size of that inbox file? I just downloaded the latest TB 115 onto my Windows 10 laptop. Thanks Noel

I have a BC Telus account. They use Google for their email service. I successfully configured Thunderbird to work with their Google some years ago. Recently I have had numerous problems and now it barely works.

Sending: If I send a test message with a few words it sends. But any real message does not send and I get an error message about unable to compact folders such as inbox. Another error message is, Cannot save a draft.

Receiving: for the last three days I can receive nothing. When I was still able to receive messages would show in the inbox but would take minutes to display the contents of the message.

I can access both receive and send on my iPad using the same Telus email address.

I think I had an update of Thunderbird in this same time period. Also I have uninstalled a number of large programs. Also moved many large files to an external hard drive. Also moved many messages from my Inbox to trash and emptied trash

Suggestions please

Thunderbird 115.2.3 (64-bit) Linux Ubuntu 22.04.3 I use table view for emails and it scrolls by itself if I select a new email, or delete a read email. It is really annoying, I can't see my last emails e.g. This keeps in safe mode with all add-ons off, smooth scrolling if off too.

Is there a way to fix it?

Thunderbird v115 made Search really hard to use

When I use the Global Search, it does find the emails I'm looking for, that match the terms.

But, once I click on one of the results, all it does is open a new tab with ALL the emails of that thread.

Now I have to go through each of them, until I find again what I want, but it's not easy.


Even if I try to use the "Filter these messages" box (in that tab with all the emails of the thread), that never works there (even if I enable "Body").

Thunderbird hangs after 1-2 minutes

I'm running Thunderbird 115.2.3 on Mac OS X Ventura 13.5.2. Since a few days ago, the Thunderbird interface will hang completely a few minutes after it launches. I can usually get in and read an email or two before this happens. No crash dialog appears, and I have to force quit the application.

A few things I've tried, unsuccessfully:

  • Launching in safe mode has the same issue
  • Deleting the global messages DB seems to make this issue go away for a while, but then it comes back again at a certain point (like after a day or so of use)

I was able to save a Mac OS X crash report, which is here https://gist.github.com/timstallmann/1bc7150c43054642e5e936782e247527 in case it provides any insight.

I hope there's a solution to this! I have been a loyal thunderbird user for decades and have never had a problem like this.

Hi!

When I start a new email - every works & looks okay: The email starts with a new row for my message, then a line with "--", followed by my signature (added as TEXT FILE).

But if I use REPLY or FORWARD (since the last update in September 2023 - about version 115), I don't get the space to write my reply/forward message.

My curser now starts INSIDE of my signature! I don't get the "--" between my reply and my signature. (I have changed the default, so my signature comes after my reply (and before the previous message).

I have the same problem on 2 computers, with the same 3 accounts on both.

Attachments:

  • 1) Settings in Swedish - just changed that signature is AFTER my REPLY when REPLYING.
  • 2) Settings in Swedish - just the "signature.txt" with text - no HTML
  • 3) my new email - works
  • 4) my reply/forward - ERROR

I have noticed that in the last 4-5 weeks message filters are not being correctly triggered as email comes in and manual execution of rules works in specific folders (to get rid of "junk/troll" email. This should have been auto run upon fetch of email.

This has resulted in slow updates of display (subject line) for email being previewed in IN BOX. I have emails in my IN Box that should have been put in specific folders. Each of these has a retention period. I have tried running the "Repair Folder" script(?), but that does not solve the slow update of the subject line to match the email being looked at in preview, or the rules running upon fetch of email.

Currently running TB 115.2.0 (64-bit).

Have updated to 115.2.0 (64-bit).

Randomly when getting email, in the select panel (where I can click on an email for it to display in the preview panel or become a new window) the subject line is for a prior email when the email selected shows in the preview. And this problem is pretty much repeatable.

I have run the Repair Folder script(?) and no joy. However, it seems to be some slowness in updating because I've noticed that it will correct itself in 1-3 minutes.

Also, I have auto delete for my inbox and it is showing 10039 emails, but apparently I'm getting lots of emails that the filters are not working on. This is another problem.....

In doing searches, I see where something like this was occurring last year (2022) before the current updates existed.

Let me know what captures you want run for this, if any.

Hello, The latest version of Thunderbird is now automatically spamming many of my emails that are not spam. When I unspam them those emails are being deleted for ever and I can't read them. Thunderbird 115.2.3 installed itself yesterday (2023-09-21) morning. I have two email accounts which I regularly use, on different server-pairs. On one, SMTP and IMAP is fine. On the other, a commercial provider, IMAP is fine but I get a pop-up window "Send message error <NL> Sending of the message failed" without any hint as to what failed.

SMTP Server settings are correctly listed by TBird: Server-DNS (checked many times; it is unique to the MX domain on which there are three accounts, of the form <MX-name with hyphens instead of dots>.<ISP-name with hyphens instead of dots>.de ), Port 587, STARTTLS, "normal password" authentication. I checked the password; TBird tells me it is what I thought it is; I can use it to log in to my MailSP's WWW Interface and send messages (through Port 25). Port 587 and STARTTLS are also correct; a colleague also with an account managed to send me a mail using same server, port, STARTTLS and his password.

So the chance that this is a TBird configuration error seems to me high. But no hint is given and I can't find anything that is wrong. Besides, it all worked the day before, before 115.2.2 was installed - when the problem arose, and continued with 115.2.3; these settings were taken over from the previous version on the update. The very same SW TBird 115.2.3 functions with the other Email server-pair without any problem.

Over the last two days (starting just before the latest Thunderbird update) Thunderbird is crashing 3 or 4 times a day, and is intermittently failing to download emails. Opening attachments (e.g. PDFs) to emails can take several minutes, whereas previously it was almost instantaneous. Task Manager shows that Thunderbird's power usage is 'very high'. None of these problems has happened before. I'm running Windows 10 on a PC.

I often get a message letting me know that an email was sent but not saved to the sent folder. I often have to refer to emails that I have sent. So that is an important function for me. What can I do to fix this issue? I'm on a Mac and emails are being transferred from my email client with my hosting company. Thanks in advance for any help.

My emails wont download, when I click on get messages the left bottom of the screen says "checking mail server capabilities" but nothing happens Also, when I send a message this message comes up "Your message was sent but a copy was not placed in your sent folder (Sent) due to network or file access errors.

This was all working fine yesterday. I've tried reentering my passwords, retstarting computuer, restarting Thunderbird in Troubleshoot mode.

I'm on Thunderbird version 115.2.2 (64bit) under Windows 10 on an Acer laptop. My mail provider and ISP is British Telecom (BT). I use SMTP not IMAP. A couple of days ago TB suddenly stopped sending emails (and I mean suddenly - one minute ok, next minute not) with a message saying it could not connect with the SMTP server and requested a 'new' password. Giving one (i.e. the correct one, again) produced even more errors along the same vein. Neither stopping and starting TB nor a computer restart made any difference. I seem to remember it wasn't receiving then either but on some support site somewhere it suggested I ensured my Windows was up to date. I did that and emails are now received (but still won't send).

I've been searching the internet for ideas but nothing has suggested anything other than check the password, the SMTP server name, the connection security, the authentication method and the port. See the attached screenshot. None of these things has changed for ages, yet it started to misbehave very suddenly. I did actually change the password on my account and tried that - made no difference. I have stopped my ZoneAlarm firewall temporarily, tried a send which failed again and restarted it, so it's not the firewall (Windows FW is off). I have another BT email account in TB and they both do the same thing. I have three other accounts in TB and they all work properly as they go through two other providers' SMTP servers. I set up a new BT account and made it an IMAP one in TB. Same result. Deleted it. The odd thing is that if I access my mail through the web browser that BT provide, emails can be sent and received no problem. It's for that reason that the BT support desk will not look into this problem. I've called them twice now. The first agent suggested I contacted Microsoft, for some reason, which I tried to do but their support website says they do not do telephone support any more and all the suggested Help topics vaguely related to this problem are concerned with MS products like Outlook and Hotmail. The second washed his hands of the problem as soon as he heard that webmail works and strongly suggested I try Thunderbird support, so here I am. It does seem logical I suppose.

Sorry to be so verbose but I wanted to get everything out. Any advice would be useful but I hope someone has the magic bullet. I'm really starting to get fed up with this.
