I have been using T-bird as my email client for years. Just now, a new screen pops up with this message: "an error occurred during connection to localhost". I have 2 email accounts that I use with T-bird. The one is with comcast; it is the account that comes up with the error message. The other account is with Breezeline, and it appears to be unaffected. However, and this is the problem, I cannot send or receive email from either account. I am going to try to send both a hard copy of the error message, and the data from the T-bird program that I am using. Your help is appreciated. Thanks

Hi, for some severely annoying reason all emails from 2nd Jan 2021 to 6th June 2022 when clicked will show the wrong content. In fact the email from 1st Jan 2021 (the first one in the Inbox). I don't know when this problem started because I don't generally look at emails that old. I suspect it happen since two months ago when I last looked up historic emails. I vaguely remember doing a compact in the last few months (it was recommended after all).
Unfortunately I have got a bit lazy with my inbox. It currently contains 1450 emails from the past three years. It seems (now) that is not recommended but why the feck should the amount lead to corruption?? If you can store 2 messages you should be able to store at least 2^32 for crying out loud! It's all just 7-bit ASCII FFS!
So how on earth am I going to fix this?! I have old backups but how do I merge messages from one account to the current live one?

Every message (since Mar20) shows a yellow error bar: "Thunderbird thinks this message is Junk mail." [Learn More] [Not Junk] [X] Just as I'm composing this, messages also have inconsistent coloring (picture attached).
Since the message says "Thunderbird...", I'm posting here and not google/gmail. NOTE I just tried the Learn More link and may be able to reset the "learning" so this post may have been unnecessary. Still - an unpleasant experience. I did locate the [Reset training data] in Settings and may have to use that.
BACKGROUND: I migrated from another Mac in January, that seems to be unrelated. I downloaded several apps from the App Store the day before (Mar 19) but those all seem unrelated. Some Mar20 messages are fine.
I'm running Thunderbird 115.9.0 (64-bit) "supernova" and "Thunderbird is up to date" on macOS Ventura 13.6.3

Since the UI upgrade, my Thunderbird client has become slow on my PC. On opening instead of what was previously a quick start-up to my INBOX, it now hangs and you can see (from bottom left) its polling out to email servers and waiting for a response .... much slower than previously.
It's not a server response as I use same email on my iPad and that logs in with almost zero delay.
Occasionally also lags behind key board, you are typing and you are several characters or even words in front of the client.
Is there any rebuild or similar I should do now I am on the 'new look'

Am trying to resolve an issue for a client. They are a longtime Thunderbird user and several days ago when they opened the program it seemed to have forgotten who they were. Unsure whether that's because of a Thunderbird update or just something randomly corrupted.
In any case they tried to re-enter their account information (POP3 by the way) but had some issues getting the settings right. I got them straightened around with the proper ports and settings this morning so they are able to send and receive email however all of the folders which she previously had in her inbox are no longer there. I did check the server for folders just on the off chance that they had been using IMAP and not POP3, but none were found.
In checking their Thunderbird profile folder (there is only the one) by timestamps it was created many years back but by current date stamps on the Inbox files it is where the current new mail is being downloaded to.
Their folder list within Thunderbird itself is pretty barren... Inbox, Sent and Trash
If I look in the profile folder on the other hand I do see an "inbox.sbd" (dated about a week ago) and it does appear to contain all of the files and sub-folders related to the missing folders so the data is obviously there in some form. How do I get it "re-linked" into Thunderbird so the user can access it?

I switched my email host and am trying to change the account settings in Thunderbird. When I change the server name a popup appears and asks me to restart or cancel. It doesn't let me continue to change any of the other server settings. Selecting either option changes the server name back to the original.
So I delete the email account and its smtp server. When I restart they both reappear. When I add a new email account and smtp server, it disappears when I restart.
When I select Help/Troubleshooting Information the deleted accounts are gone from under Mail And News Accounts. When I restart Thunderbird, the deleted accounts and server returns.
I changed the settings for a different email account that is on a different host last summer with no problems. Thanks

Question: How do I trigger Thunderbird to run the equivalent of the "Repair Folder" option (Folder Properties, Repair Folder) on ALL folders under an account?
Background: After a recent unexpected system reboot (with Thunderbird running), I have dozens of folders that Thunderbird will not move messages to on receipt. (Although applying filters to all messages in the folder appear to move the messages, but I do not see an update to an affected folder to which a message was moved.) In order to move and see the messages in the affected target folder(s) I currently have to find that each folder, right click, select "Properties", then click "Repair Folder". There does not seem to be rhyme or reason to which folders, and I do not know which are affected until a message comes in that should be moved to that folder. Due to the number of folders I have, the logical thing would be to trigger "Repair Folder" on all folders.
(Yes, I have searched, and I have read "How do I repair ALL forlders?" (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1390491 , posted 2022-09-24), but the response(s) to that post did not answer the question.)

I'm having a problem with the retention policy. Many times, not all the time, the changes to the policy are ignored. I recently removed the "star" from several e-mails in a folder that were older than the defined retention time of 60 days but the emails are still in the folder. I just lowered the retention definition in another folder from 30 days to 10 days but the older emails are still in the folder however, in a different folder, when I changed the settings from 120 days to 60 days, the older emails disappeared almost immediately. Is there something I can do to force the folder to behave .

Since its installation, its startup has been always slow: several seconds with a blank window and the spinning wheel. The startup is slow when Thunderbird has access to the Mac Contacts.
If you go to System Settings, Privacy & Security, Contacts and prevent Thunderbird to access the Contacts, then its startup time is decent. It seems overall snappier.
Clearly, without having access to Contacts, the use of Thunderbird is slightly annoying.
Why is it so slow when accessing Contacts? Is there anything I can do on my side to let it access the Contacts and stay fast?

Can not send messages messages from Thnderbird. Getting Failed connection to server error messages. So, I confirmed that the user id and password entered is correct. I contacted email provider and updated incoming and outgoing server settings to IMAP settings and confirmed they are correct.
I manually updated Account Configurations per the Thunderbird website. The server settings entered are confirmed correct when I re-test. When I select Done I still get the error "Unable to login at server. Probably wrong configuration, user name or password." I have confirmed that all of those elements are correct.
What now?
Email provider is Spectrum. Incoming Server type- POP mail server - can't change server type or won't get incoming mail Server name- pop.charter.net port 110
Outgoing - changed to IMAP - per provider advice Server name - mobile.charter.net port 587 Connection security - SSL/TSL
