Hi. I have an email purporting to be from Microsoft telling me that I will have access problems with Thunderbird from September onwards. Something to do with authentification. Assuming it is genuine (is it?) I have no idea what to do. It gives 'instructions' which are incomprehensible to me. I dont even know why this link is to Mozilla rather than thunderbird. I don't want to loose Thunderbird's calendar or stored files let alone the ease of access I currently enjoy. I need someone kind and patient to tell this novice how to move forward in a pedantic, non-terminology way who is happy to assume I know nothing! Please help! Brian

This evening, Thunderbird has updated to the new version (can't see where the version number is held, unfortunately). Whenever I try to download new emails, I now get the message "Error with account [email address]. Sending of username did not succeed. Mail server pop3.iomartcloud.com responded: Mate, the command must be one of CAPA, USER, PASS or QUIT." Mails are still accessible through the mail client on my phone and through webmail, just not through Thunderbird.

Microsoft outlook warned that I will no longer be able to use thunderbird after Sept 16th unless I use Oauth. I've tried changing settings to allow Oauth, but it's not listed as an option fot outgoing mail. Is this because I'm running windows 7? Is there any way around this, I want to keep win 7?

Thunderbird keeps crashing. That is about all that I can tell you. It started this morning (/when I got to work I fist noticed it). I have not used any add ons. I have been submitting crash reports. Crash data avaiable on request. I uninstalled and re installed, same result; crashes immediately on start up.

Please assist.

I've been using Thunderbird for several years now without any issues, and I currently have the latest version installed. I typically have multiple email accounts logged in. Recently, I tried adding a Gmail account, but it wouldn’t log in, showing the error: "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username, or password."

I’ve tried the usual fixes like closing and reopening Thunderbird, clearing cache files, and even searching online for solutions. Based on what I found, I’ve tried turning off VPN/antivirus, changing the default browser, clearing browser data, and, finally, uninstalling and reinstalling Thunderbird after removing all my email accounts.

Now, I’m unable to log in to any of my accounts, which were working fine before. Can anyone guide me on how to resolve this issue?

HI, I have TBird 102.15.1 64Bit installed on several different PCs and laptops. On my main Laptop I checked the Roaming\Thunderbird folder properties and found the following: Size on Disk: 35.8 GB Contains 253,172 files and 1,533 Folders. Is their anyway I can reduce the size? My TBird seems to be running slowly and occasionally stalls. I do not want to switch back to Outlook client program, I am not a Microsoft supporter. I do know I could move mail to local folders but would that mean I could only access them from one machine? Thanks.

I've never knowingly installed a non-mainline thunderbird, but earlier this week I started getting the following when I open Thunderbird:

This is an unsupported version of Thunderbird!! Thunderbird monthly releases are not considered stable for general use. Use at your own risk, this build is the same quality as Thunderbird Beta.

Checking the version of thunderbird.exe It says its v131, which happens to be the same as the copy of Firefox installed. When I remove and reinstall Thunderbird it starts off as 128 but quickly changes to 131, even after uninstalling Firefox. (Also annoyingly, this stomps on the version in the profile, which 128 claims is no longer compatible, because Thunderbird isn't clever enough to save a copy of files when it makes "breaking" changes to user files)

I wouldn't being on 131 if actually worked, but it gets stuck in the handshake with my IMAP server, and doesn't even show the local folder caches. (It also for some reason shows the window controls on left side of the window title bar, rather than the right).

How can I restore standard functionality?

I have used Thunderbird for years with automatic update. Got a Big yellow warning - something like: this is a test version, the profile must not work in esr version. I immediately stopped. Downloaded the esr version and started it. Thunderbird could now not read my profile an initiated install procedure. I saved the profile. Can I see in the profile which version of Thunderbird it can be used under ? You aught to give i clear warning in test versions when you change an user profile.

Dear support, I got an e-mail from Microsoft, that they're not gonna allow regular password authentification coming September and I've had trouble connecting one of my two hotmail.com-accounts for months now (the apparently common problem where it claims that the password is incorrect - which it isn't). I thought, it's a perfect opportunity to fix both these issued by getting the OAuth2 thing to work. I'm on Windows 11 using TB 115.12.2 I can't get it to work : ( I did all the steps in this article https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/microsoft-oauth-authentication-and-thunderbird-202 except that I couldn't select OAuth2 for my former smpt outgoing server (sorry if I'm using these words wrong, I really have no expertise in this area) "smtp-mail.outlook.com" - it's not in the dropdown menu. I tried forcing it in over the confid editor (which worked, I mean, I could open the pop-up again and it would have the OAuth2 selected), but no mails. I tried to instead just put in that office365 server that is given in all the examples (since I don't know how anything works, I thought I'd give it a try). There I could regularly select the OAuth2, but it still didn't work. I should get some pop-up or browser-thing or something to do this fun verification thing but I don't and I really don't know what to do.. I tried resetting everthing back to it's former state but now my main hotmail-account also has the wrong-password-problem... : (( Do you have any good ideas? I stupidly deleted Thunderbird and now i lost my addresses ad not sure i can get them back can someone remote and help me with it see this but too complicated for me for me i had a guy from Just answers do it he made a test profile and it took up of space and i saww all sorts of profiles so i thoughtit would work removing it but it did not i removed and lost all profiles

had to totally  uninstall and reinstall  and now  i an not  get it back

Dear Thunderbird team I am an avid user of TB (home desktop Windows PCs), but I have been resting on my laurels on v78 for a few years now. I know, shame on me. I would like to upgrade to a stable "modern" release (emphasis on "stable" please). Can you please advise if I should aspire to end up on 115 or 128, and how I might get there ? From reading some older blogs, there is advice that says.... first go to v91, then v102, then v115, and so. That seems a bit tortuous, but I am happy to do so if that is still the recommended approach.

Also, can you advise on how I manage my Profile through all this, do I need to do various exports/imports as I move through these different versions, etc.

I've been a Thunderbird user for years. I have no idea what they changed recently, but it's incredibly, incredibly SLOW, almost to the point of unusability. Even something as simple as deleting emails.

I usually do these in chunks -- select multiples and delete. We're not talking about hundreds of emails at at time here, just maybe 5-15. Select them all, hit delete, and it should take just a couple of seconds to delete the messages. It did, in the past. But lately, it's taking so long that I could leave and make a sandwich, and when I come back, maybe it will be done. Maybe it will still be working, though, or maybe it will have locked up because it was taking so long.

It's pretty difficult to get work done at this rate.

Thunderbird did an automatic update late today and since then have been unable to send emails. Incoming emails appear to be working.

I am using a Gmail IMAP account

The error message is - " Login to server smtp.gmail.com with username stevematulick@gmail.com failed. "

When I then select cancel then get a further Error message -

"Sending of the message failed. Unable to authenticate to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.gmail.com. Please check the password and verify the 'Authentication method' in 'Account Settings | Outgoing server (SMTP)'. "

After closing the In Box, you'd think there'd be some simple obvious way to open it again. But no. The switch is hidden. Your Help agrees that the switch is nowhere to be found in the Menu Bar (as it obviously ought to be), but that it can be found in the Tool Bar.

The Tool Bar is not found in the Menu Bar either (as it obviously ought to be). Short of relaunching the program, what am I to do?

Did the designer of the interface have an addiction to video games? In video games everything is hidden, as though it were FUN to poke around looking. I have never played a video game. They are not fun. They are a waste of time. All commonly used email tools and windows should be accessible under the Menu Bar. Please fix your program. Meanwhile, please tell me how to open the In Box after closing it. Thank you.
