When I create a new folder in Local Folders, the new folder shows in the list and also appears in the local directory. However, if I close and then reopen TB, the newly created folder does not show in the list of folders in the Local Folder even though it still appears in the local directory, and I can see that the new folder contains data by the file size. I still have old sub-folders that I created some time ago available as normal in the Local Folder and I'm wondering if the issue may have been caused by switching from pop3 to imap a while ago as the folders I can still see were created prior to the change - but I'm guessing. Can anyone please suggest how to get the Local Folder to show the invisible folders within it after I restart? Thanks. I'm using version 115.9.0 (32-bit) on windows 10.

Hi, my mailbox on the server is set to 5Gb. However the size of the IMAP directory of this mailbox on my hard disc is almost 22Gb. Sometimes I occured the situation that the mailbox's size on server lik 500Mb the IMAP catalogue took 80Gb of disk space. What might be the reason. Using 'cleaning' option does not help. I am currently using TB 115.9.0 (64 bit) but this problem has existed for a number of recent versions. I have a similar second machine with the same setup and version, same email accounts, and this does not occur so the problem is specific to this machine.

Many times when moving or deleting emails TB freezes up and becomes unresponsive for 5-10 seconds. For example I will delete a spam email and then I can't do anything with TB at all (everything else in Windows 10 works fine during this period and I can for example browse in FF). There is no indication of any problem. I tried compacting and repairing every folder and nothing changed. A while back someone suggested I delete some index file and I did that, it took a couple of days for TB to re-index everything, but the problem persisted through that.

This is very annoying as I get a lot of spam and also file a lot of emails into folders and this really slows me down, having to keep trying to click on something and drag until it works etc.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Lately Thunderbird is very, very slow to send or receive email from POP3 Gmail. I've noticed the slowdown a while ago, and hoped that a reinstall would fix the issue. But it does not.

I am using a fresh snap install of 115.9.0 on a fresh Ubuntu 24.04, with calendars disabled.

This is what happens:

  • When checking or sending mail, Thunderbird spins up a single CPU core for 130 seconds.
  • The CPU core spins only if Thunderbird is on foreground (not if in background or minimized).
  • I can see on the Network Monitor that until 130 seconds have elapsed no network request are made.
  • After 130 seconds of waiting, some requests to google are made and mail is actually checked in a couple of seconds.

Seems that Thunderbird waits for something that never happens, and actually checks mail only after something times out.

How can I fix this? Do you have any suggestion of what to try?

Hyperlinks in Thunderbird (115.9.0 64 bit) running on Ubuntu 22.04.4-LTS have quit working overnight. Too my knowledge nothing changed. I have followed all the steps in the document "Hyperlinks in messages not working" with no luck. 1) My default browser was Chrome. Changed to FireFox. No Luck. Changed back no luck. 2) Check that no application is specified for HTTP content can not be followed No Preferences option exists under the menu in my version of Thunderbird. Checked in settings found nothing matching the description. 3) Checked for incorrect preferences. Used config editor. Their is no Reset option for the settings. Found the referenced setting. Switched from True to False and then back again, hoping the might reset it. No Luck 4) Switched to Safe mode from the Help menu. No luck.

New to Linux, just set this system up 2 months ago. Migrated my Windows Thunderbird database without issue and it was working fine until this morning.

In need of suggestions. If uninstalling is going to be required, I need to be able to do it a way that does not lose my historical email records or my cardbook address book of 1000 names.

I have Thunderbird v 115.9.0 running on two PCs (one with Windows 10 the other with Windows 11). On both computers I can no longer open attachments that I attach to emails I'm creating, like I used to. So for instance, if I'm sending someone a PDF or JPG file, and I attache it and want to open the file and double check it before sending, I can't do that. Doesn't work if I right click on it and say "open" or if I double click on it. However if I save it to my Drafts folder first, then I can open the attachments. Likewise I can open the attachments from the Sent folder. And I have no problems opening these types of files when someone sends them to me.

I have Acrobat Reader Pro set to open PDFs, and Photoshop set to open JPGs, and I double checked the settings, and have re-enabled those as the default programs in T-bird's Settings/General/Files and Attachment section.

Any advice on how to fix this?

I often forward spam emails to the Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG) in my fight against phishing. I always do so in attachment format, as APWG requests. However, if any individual attachment spam exceeds about 150K (give or take a few K's), the whole message gets rejected due to a (very) old SMTP (RFC2821) protocol limiting line length (998 relevant characters) within the message as measured by carriage return/line feed (CRLF). I think the rule is delineated as 4.5.3.1 within RFC. I can still forward such messages as attachments via Gmail, and I believe Yahoo, but not if I use Thunderbird as a suite to send. Is this a deficiency on Thunderbird's part, a bug, or something they intentionally have in place? And is there a workaround-?

When I send email with an attachment (not very large attachment) it takes forever and then I eventually get a message back that the out going server has timed out and the message is then automatically saved in my Draft folder. However, it seems the message and attachment are actually sent and received by the recipient. Is the system not recognizing that the message is complete and just stays in the send mode until the server times out?

Suddenly, when I click (left or right mouse click same issue) on a message in my inbox it automatically opens the msg in "reply mode". Never did that before. When I look at the options "Edit Draft Message" is highlighted at the top of the pop-up options list. Have to select "Open Message in New Window" to read the message. NEVER had to do this before. To my knowledge, I have changed nothing! How can I turn this annoying "feature" off.

Can't show a screen print of the error or pop-up options screen!

Since +/- 19 March 2024 I've been unable to connect Thunderbird to Mailfence. I have a paid subscription with Mailfence. The error message I'm getting is "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username or password." - see attachment.

I'm using the exact same credentials by doing a copy & paste to successfully sign into Thunderbird via a browser. I'm using the defaulted Mailfence connection as shown in the attachments. On Thunderbird version 115.9.0.

Hi,

in some strange turn of events, it appears that all the messages that I had carefully tagged are now not visible or not available anymore. I don't know what I did (but I'm also rather new to TB).

I had tagged and the archive'd many (1000's of) messages. Until few hours ago, the messages were visible when exploring the tagged messages . The tags themselves are still visible in the Tabs pane, but all the messages inside not anymore.

The count of emails in the inbox seems to be correct, so maybe (hopefully) those tagged messages were not deleted. I've already run TB in 'Troubleshoot mode': doing that, the tags are not visible anymore either (and I have no easy way to know if one of the tagges messages previously stored there are still there).

The tagged emails are from an IMAP account. I am on version 115.9.0 (64-bit), MacOS 13.6.3 (22G436), cpu M1Pro.

Any advice highly appreciated.

As of a few months ago, I have been running into situations where my local folders wind up displaying some entries with no title, no sender, and garbled content (see image). Attempting to Repair the local folders does not have any visible effect.

Server is Microsoft Outlook, connected to via SMAP. I'm running Thunderbird 115.9.0 (64-bit) on Windows 10.

I'm also connecting to this mail server with Microsoft's android client, but that obviously doesn't know anything about the local folders so it shouldn't (?) be interfering.

This is Seriously Annoying. If I put something into the local folders, it's because I want to archive it for reference. That needs to be reliable.

Time for me to abandon Thunderbird? Or is this a known issue with a reliable fix?

I'm having this same issue on Ubuntu 22.04 and Fedora 39. Similar to archived post Thunderbord Calendar event notification failure to dismiss Calendar notification box doesn't respond to any clicks to close, dismiss, or snooze. This notification comes up about 5 seconds after opening Thunderbird. Clicking the modal opens crash dialog "Application "thunderbird" is not responding You tried to close window "1 Reminder" from application "thunderbird" (Process ID: 72811) but the application is not responding. Do you want to terminate this application? Warning: Terminating the application will close all of its child windows. Any unsaved data will be lost."

The archived post above suggests "disable or remove the add-on, then add the calendar from File/New/Calendar...On the Network..."

1. I used this method when adding my calendar. No add-ins are involved. 2. I only have about 5 seconds between opening Thunderbird and the notification locking it up. Very limited options for any workarounds. 3. Notification has already been dismissed within Nextcloud Calendar but still comes up in Thunderbird. 4. This is a Nextcloud based caldav account.
