Using latest version of Thunderbird (52.01) on Windows 10. Tried to download the Lightening Add On via Thunderbird and directly from Mozilla, but this was flagged as not compatible with this version of Thunderbird and the Add On could not be downloaded.

How can I get the Lightning functionality and features into this version of Thunderbird?

How do I set T-bird to use the Canadian English dictionary by *default*? Currently, it's defaulting to US-English, and it's tedious to have to set each individual email language to Canadian.

I'm running T-Bird on Windows 10 (laptop) and Enterprise 7 (work/desktop). Both of those systems have Canadian English as the default. My area settings are for Canada.

FYI: Thunderbird does not have an official downloadable version of Canadian English language version here: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/all/ BUT there is a Canadian English add-on here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/language-tools/ I have the latter installed, and it works when I reset the email to Canadian English (see screenshot for the process).

I just installed Thunderbird and only my name comes up in the "From" option when I write a message. I wish to add my wife's name so that she can send her own messages with her name. (The email address will be the same but the name in front of the email address will be hers.)

I'm running Thunderbird V24.6.0 with an IMAP email account hosted by "myhosting.com". Settings are Synchronization & Storage set with "Keep messages for this account on this computer", "Synchronize all messages locally regardless of age", and "Don't delete any messages". But any email in my trash that is over 7 days old is disappearing.

Since font size is controlled in Firefox by CTL +/- why not the same for the main screen in Thunderbird? Eyesight requires larger characters. Simple solution best. Past my time to futz.

I accepted update to Thunderbird version 60.0 but my Add-on has been disabled as non-compatible (Magyar (HU) Language Pack (Thunderbird) 52.0 and Français Language Pack (Thunderbird) 52.0.). When trying to find Add-on, same versions I have already are proposed and they are no more compatible with Thunderbird version 60.0 What can I do to have again spelling check available in French and Hungarian? If this option makes emails sent from Thunderbird to any other email client have arbitrary line breaks where the line changes in the view of the composer. Please explain to me like I am 5, why is this ON by default? I just spent hours wording and formatting a work email vital for my career just to find out it will most likely look like a poem to the person that reeds it. This mailnews.wraplength "feature" looks a lot like is there to signal to other non-Thunderbird users to use Thunderbird. I really really hope there is a good explanation for why `mailnews.wraplength` exists and is on by default.

I just upgraded to Thunderbird 60 and wish to use Google Search as the default search engine. I installed the Google Search for Thunderbird addon, and restarted Thunderbird, but Google Search does not show as choice in the search-engine list. Am I missing a step?

I am using FiltaQuilla (add-on) in Thunderbird to save the attachments of received e-mails (filtered on domain, e.g. "@example.com") to a specific folder for each sender. But for some reason, all saved files are empty. The file name is correct, so all attachments seem to saved, but without their content. I checked the attachments in the mails: they are not empty files.

I've added a screenshot of one of the filters (my apologies, but it's in Dutch). A little translation: Filter: - From, contains, @example.be Actions: - Move message to, VERWERKT (other folder in mailbox) - Save attachments to, C:\FTP\...\...\MAIL_IN - Mark as read

This is a very weird problem, and I cannot figure out the cause. All help is very much appreciated, every hint might get me on the trail to the cause and solution!

Thunderbird recently updated to 60.0 and now I cannot install themes. None of the help threads I have found work. I must be missing something. Everything I try keeps adding themes to Firefox instead of Thunderbird.

I have researched endless options how to download an add on for google search in the options dropdown menu for search engines.

The download https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/google-search-for-thunderbi/?src=search says it is not compatible with my version of thunderbird which is 60 Beta. What must I do?

All of a sudden, I can't see emails that I know are there because the subject of a previous message in my inbox is underlined. I can find the emails when I search for them by putting in a recipients name. And when they show up the thread column exhibits a red flag (don't know what it means). HELP.

I want to send bulk mails as bcc to all the recepients. On adding the mail ids from the address book all are being added as `To` and so I am forced to change them to bcc one by one. How can that be done automatically instead?

Before the Thunderbird 45.0 update came through, I used to use an ad-on called TT DeepDark. Since the update, I get an error message telling me that this add-on is not compatible with version 45.0. Because of a visual impairment, I depend on dark themes so that I can read more easily. I thought at first that it was something with that one individual add-on, so I searched for one to take its place. However, it appears that no theme add-on available through Mozilla is compatible with the latest version. Is there any kind of time frame for when this might be fixed?

I do know that things often depend on individual developer, but since every single theming add-on is currently nonfunctional, I know it isn’t something like dependent on an individual developer.

Is there any kind of workaround in the meantime? I really depend on that dark theme so that I can use Thunderbird more effectively.

On my old small laptop I wanted to increase interface font size. Erroneously thought that in layout.css.devPixelsPerPx I could insert the desired font size. I have inserted 12, now Thunderbird is unusable, some giant menu words appear but I cannot move anywhere. Can I I edit a configuration file manually to reset to a readable size? Which?

We have multiple email accounts. How do I make one of the accounts the default sender address when we Send to a document to Mail Recipient? Or how can I change the order of the email accounts on Thunderbird that they appear?

I was wondering if Thunderbird can play an mp3/wav song as the e-mail alert or is it restricted to just a maximum 5 second sound file? I installed Tonequilla and tried some of the sounds that came with that but TB would only play the smaller files so I am guessing there is a restriction. I am using TB v 52.7.0 in a linux environment but I have also have V 52.7.0 on a windows xp computer as well. You already know this but when you browse for sound files from within TB it does not recognize mp3 files only WAV and OGG the other aspect is that WAV files are enormous in comparison e.g in the attached image there is an extract from a song The Brightest Star. TB plays the OGG file but will not play the MP3 or the WAV and the WAV being uncompressed is significantly larger. I also installed Mailbox Alert, there is a Command feature in that and I was wondering if that can be programmed to launch and play an MP3 track as an alert although I would be at a loss as to what commands to put in there. As described in [question] I am unable to install addons in Thunderbird: when attempting to install an addon, either via the in-app browser or via a file, a pop-up window appears for which "Add" and "Cancel" buttons do nothing (there is no way to move or remove the window without killing the process).

I am opening this question as this problem still persists over a year and many versions later.
