Hi Everyone,

I have Thunderbird installed on two computers. When I receive messages that are in plain text, on one computer they are being displayed in a modified format with whitespace and carriage returns removed. On the second computer the messages are not being reformatted.

What setting do I need to change so that plain text messages are not automatically reformatted?

The trouble is that these messages are written with the contents displayed out in a nice table format, and when they are reformatted it makes them very hard to read.

I have tried searching for the answer myself, but I haven't been able to find anything that directly relates to this question.

Thunderbird did an update recently to v115.15 and now it refuses to work with CONTINUAL "Not Responding" messages for every keyboard or mouse entry. I spent the last 6 hours trying to flag and delete messages and managed to get about 30 deleted and those were not one at a time. The same thing happened yesterday as well. The "Not responding is so annoying and is all the time now. I need to roll it back to a version that works. The "not responding" started with the last update but this version is totally unusable. The OS is Windows 7.

A few days ago I installed Thunderbird, and once I got it working I set a bunch of filters. I just checked my email today through Thunderbird, and none of the filters I set are showing up. I was able to locate three versions of my msgFilterRules.dat file (one in my local folder, one in my (obsolete) pop folder, and one in my imap folder)

My guess is that one of them has my filters, but got saved in the wrong place or something, and now my filters won't appear. I could be wrong about that, I but don't know how to check which one might have my filters are there, or import them into my settings.

If I can't get my filters back, though, how would I go about preserving them? It's very frustrating that they disappeared, and I don't want that to happen again.

The new edition released today doesn't allow the Keyboard "Return" Key to accept the recommended spelling correction. You must now click the "Replace" Icon in the Check Spelling Pop-up. Is there a setting/other where this can be adjusted/modified so that the Keyboard Return Key works again?

I have got many thousands of emails. From time to time my inbox gets full enough for a warning sign to come up - so I have a clean up by deleting and/or saving to a folder within "local folders" and I regularly clean out my deleted folders and recompact.

However in the last few days I have been getting a warning tab come up saying "75% full" fairly randomly - in other words it seems to be independent of whatever folder is active at the time.

Does Thunderbird have a maximum capacity including all local folders? There are many emails (including attachments, of course) which I do not want to delete whether for archive or for nostalgic reasons.

If there is a maximum overall capacity is there any way of "exporting" folders of emails with their attachments to free up space for the program but leaving me able to invoke these emails should the need or occasion arise?

I am unable to delete folders that I have created myself. When I click on the folder and click Delete, nothing happens.These folders were created by me to enable me to store important emails related to one topic. Some of the folders were quite old, but most of them now are folders that I created recently.

Attempts that I have made:

  • I was able to delete the contents of the folders, hoping that after that I could delete the folders. I was still unable to delete the folders.
  • I thought if I renamed these folders I could delete them. I was also unable to rename the folders.
  • I created another folders called "can't delete" and placed all the folders that I can't delete into that folder. I tried to delete the whole "can't delete" folder, again without success.
  • I also tried to delete the folders by moving them to other existing folders, and then tried to delete them, again no success.

Can someone please assist.

I've been using Thunderbird for years and have always had this issue, but it seems more prevalent now. It's getting a bit annoying so I'm looking for a solution. I've googled it, there are plenty of references to difficulties with formatting "as sent" not being "as received", but in this case I'm talking about a formatting issue that happens immediately in Thunderbird, has nothing to do with the receiving system.

Here's the deal...

I routinely send out batches of emails that use a specific template for formatting. I need to use HTML format because I often highlight and underline things that I've found if I don't will not be seen. To avoid much back and forth from people who did not read the email properly, I want to bold face and underline some key things.

The first example here is "what it looks like before I click Send". It shows proper paragraph structure, normal blank lines between each paragraph, etc.

The second image is what it looks like "after I click Send". It looks like this even in the "outbox" (if I'm sending later) and it hasn't even yet gone out. Appearance is identical in the sent items, and I've had recipients respond to me by replying to the original email and can see they received it formatted as in the screen shot.

Usually it either adds line breaks where none exist, or removes line breaks, merging two paragraphs together.

I've tried composing in an external editor that allows me to see non-printing characters and making sure there is just a single line break between paragraphs (and that line break is THERE), then pasting into Thunderbird. That seems to help, but if I then save that as a template and re-use it in the future, more and more weirdness creeps into it as I bring it up, change some of the verbiage to reflect the current case, and send.

What is going on here, how do I fix this? I've used Outlook for decades, have done similar things with it and have never had this issue. There's nothing "different" I'm doing when composing these - type type type, carriage return, type type type.... Perfectly normal stuff.

Is there a setting somewhere that either prevents this from happening or at least allows me to see non-printable characters so I can recognize them and fix that before it is sent?

I have downloaded Thunderbird and am trying to set it up but I am struggling. I tried to add an additional email address but the SMTP for that email seem to have automatically become the default, which are different to the gmail settings, which is actually my defualt email address. I have tried to switch it back to the gmail settings but I can't get it to send emails, it keeps say the passowrd is wrong.

Please can someone help me with what I need to do to fix the gmail settings so I can receive and send email and also how I properly add an additional email address where I can add different SMTP details that don't affect the main email address for the account.

I have been trying to send emails but I'm unable to, when ever I try sending an email I get this message "Sending of the message failed: The message could not be sent because connecting to outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.gmail.com failed. The server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections. Please verify that your outgoing server (SMTP) settings are correct and try again."

Is there anyway this can be fixed? If so it would be a lot of help. Thank you.

My father is old and doesn't easily find his way around user interfaces and accidentally clicks on stuff without noticing. The "Go offline" button in Thunderbird is especially insidious in this regard. It is completely useless for most people, and it sits there in a corner, hard to even notice. After clicking it by accident and having gone offline it is hard to find even for someone who is not old and unfamiliar with computers. There must be an option hide it. But I can't find it. Can anyone help me find it?

Additional info: My father uses an older version of Thunderbird that came with Ubuntu 14.04. Not sure which version number that is, but it's old. He refuses to upgrade, because he can't get used to new user interfaces. Back then the user interface for Thunderbird was generally better anyway than it is now. But that worthless "Go offline" button is still there even in the newest version. UX designers responsible for the continuous enshittifcation of all user interfaces everywhere should all be euthanized IMO.

Several problems 1. Updated to new version and then ran the file/address book transfer. I have 5 email accounts. The prime account and 4 others (secondary). The file transfer worked for all the 4 secondary emails but not the prime email. The address book was reinstated OK but none of the saved emails in the primary account were transferred over. The saved emails in the 4 secondary accounts did transfer over. 2. When I click on the thunder cloud symbal, only emails for the prime account are received. I use an app called Mailwasher by Firetrust to pre examine incoming emails to help stopping spurious emails from being downloaded into my PC. The emails for my 4 secondary accounts show up in Mailwasher but don't download into Thunderbird. In the past, Mailwasher and Thunderbird have worked great together. 3. When trying to solve my problems, I accidentally created a duplicate account for my prime email address. However, I can't find any way to delete the superfluous account. Having just made a small donation to Mozilla, I feel quite let down! Note: in the previous version of Thunderbird, to download all the emails from all 5 accounts I clicked on "File" then "Download for all accounts" or similar wording. There does not seem to be a similar transaction in the new version

I want to delete emails but Mozilla Thunderbird will not allow me to do this. It keeps sending a message "There is not enough disk space to download new messages. Try deleting old mail, emptying the Trash folder, and compacting your mail folders, and then try again." I am trying to delete old emails and it sends me a message to "try deleting old emails." So frustrating!!!! It is telling me to do what I am trying to do but is stopping me from doing just that!!!! NOT HAPPY!!!!!

Is there a set of instructions I can use to help me sort out login and settings problems. A wizard would be ideal but I am not starting from scratch, I just want to fix up errors I may have caused by changing settings on my accounts in order to overcome problems which have occurred recently. My original emails were with TPG who got taken over by the Message company. I had an idea that oauth2 was possibly involved in the problem, so I havechanged settings and now don't know how to fix it.
