How do I import my old account with all the associated mailboxes? I exported and now need to restore the account. Thank you

I seem to be spending days on this, every time it comes up with this:

Unable to login in at server. Probably wrong configuration,username or password.

But at the same time, I can indeed log on, to a different PC, no problems.

There must be a way around this please?

A year or so ago I had an email server I knew I was taking offline and needed to be sure I saved all my emails before taking the server offline. So I downloaded them to Thunderbird and exported all the emails. I remember even installing Thunderbird on another computer and being see them from the backup I made. However a year later after installing the newest version of Thunderbird I don't seem to be able to view the emails. While Mozilla was not open I created a new profile using win+r thunderbird.exe -p then I went to my local AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird folder and dropped all my backup information into the new profile I had created. When I start up Mozilla Thunderbird it asks for email login, which I no longer have as the email server has been taken offline. How can I view my email information I have saved its 1.8GB worth which was what was on my email server before taking it offline so I'm confident I have the right files, just not sure how to get them read. I have attached an image of what my backup information looks like.

Hi, Yesterday (Mar 22) AVG antivirus identified that file perfs-1.js was infected with VBS:Gamaredon-CN[Apt] and quarantined it (but it no longer exists !!). At the time, I didn't know that this file was a TB file. The next Thunderbird restart it was obvious something had happened. TB now looked just like a new installation. I needed to create my email accounts (only 3), my email composition had changed and my calendar data was missing. After some web searching, I realised that my problems all relate to the missing / deleted perfs-1.js file. To compound my problem, I do not have a backup (yes I know !!!). but even if I did AVG would most likely have just quarantined it again although I understand AVG have probably now fixed this false(?) virus problem.

My questions:- 1. Is the perfs-1.js file a deliverable product file or does it get created within the product based on customisations done? 2. My calendar data does still exist within local.sqlite so is there any way that I can get this data added into my new empty TB calendar? Thanks

Dear Sir or Madam,

due to a mainboard crash of my old PC, I bought a new notebook which I'm using from now on. Yesterday I rescued all files from my old hard disks and have them now on my new notebook available.

Thunderbird was for years my mail program, I want to use it still. I downloaded Thunderbird with the newest version and installed it. My old Thunderbird was not totally up-to-date.

Thunderbird opened empty. I saw in the FAQ that the storage of the mails and configuration is at: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Thunderbird\Profiles

I found two profiles folders on my recovered old hard disks: ktlh9o63.default rpq9cqul.default

and copied them to the new installation folder. Opened up Thunderbird again. Nothing happened.

I did create one mail account in the new Thunderbird installation showing now a new folder called: hvrfyymt.default-release

I tried several things. Rename the above mentioned folders. Copying the subfolders to: hvrfyymt.default-release

De-installed Thunderbird and Re-installed.. my old emails shows not up. No import function found.

Help??

As the title says, after updating thunderbird is trying to get me to set up an account and will not display the current accounts in my default profile.

The profile exists, is where it should be, with all the data from years of use its the only profile its correctly listed in profiles.ini its selected and the default in "about profiles" and is stated to be the default profile in use renamed the global-messages-db to force a db rebuild, no change used the profile selection option (thunderbird.exe -p) no help there, there's only the one profile there are no addons installed, its a vanilla install and always has been

I'm at my wits end here, please help

Hi and thanks in advance for your help.

I am using two different profiles for 2 different users.

The first user has account A and the other user has account A and also a personal account B (I will simplify because there are more than 2 accounts for each profile).

The problem is that the shared account A has and important size and this disk space is being duplicated with the same content.

It would be great if both profiles could share the same INBOX folder or even the full email account but keeping their separate profiles.

If my memory serves me right, time ago you could right click in the folder and change the path/location, but this is not possible now.

Any idea ?

As above. clicking on the downloaded file appeared to work, but upon first run it asked to be copied into the apps folder, but instead of going there it was copied to Volumes as a mounted device. It was the same .dmg filename, which when clicked just tried to install again. It appeared on the desktop as a device and had to unmount it.

Maybe I should try version 68 of T-bird, but how? Where to find it?

I have started using Thunderbird on my new laptop. It worked well for a week but the I could not see any received emails although my sent emails were seen by the receiver. I feel it may be "antivirus type" blocking or query on the certification. It indicated that the site provides valid, verified identification BUT did not allow the permanent storage of the exception. Please try help D

I cannot setup thunderbird 91.7.0 - 64 bit to yahoo with imap and oauth2. I checked various articles to make sure I use the correct parms. Even tried using the auto parms thunderbird provides which seem to be correct. I go thru the process of entering my password and clicked AGREE to "I agree to the Yahoo OpenID Oauth terms". Then I get the error. I made sure no yahoo.com cookies. I made sure no stored yahoo passwords.

Am I missing something? Hopefully something simple. Bob

I have TB v 52.9.1 on my old Windows XP PC. I have installed TB v 91.7.0 (64-bit) on my new Windows 10 PC and want to transfer my profile to the new PC.

So I copied the entire Thunderbird folder to the correct place on the new PC. The first time I open TB on the new PC, the mail shows OK. If I close it and then reopen it all the mail accounts show up but with no messages in the mail folders. The filters, account settings etc are still there but the messages disappear for all mail accounts after restarting TB...

The ImapMail folder is showing that the messages and mail folders are there, but they are not displaying.

profiles.ini is showing the correct profile name, which comes from the old profile I am trying to transfer.

I have tried reloading this several times, and the same always happens.

Can anyone suggest what to try next?

4-1-22. Not a joke. Been using Thunderbird email program for 20-30 years. I routinely down load gmail which was working. Refused to download comcast.net. Would not accept any password despite changing password on Xfinity's site. Help showed that the version on my computer was BETA. I never load BETA anything. Went to your site and downloaded and older January link. Nothing worked with anything older that I tried. It tried to make me start over with the IMAP and POP. I am afraid that I may have lost my addresses and 20 years of email archive. It probably took me over 1 week to link to gmail and comcast years ago. Will I have to do this again?

I have a complete c:\ back-up. from a week ago. If I recover the partition, will Thunderbird at least work with gmail again or has there been some major change with Thunderbird?


A prompt answer would really be appreciated.

I've gone through all of the steps for transferring accounts to a new computer (1. Save Roaming/thunderbird to USB location. 2. copy saved over roaming/thunderbird on new computer) quite a few times now. But every time I start TB on the new computer, it ALWAYS asks me to set up an email account and NEVER brings in old accounts, local folders or any message filters. I've even tried using MozBackup which said it succeeded, but still only started up with asking to set up email and no saved data was present.

My main issue right now is getting the "Local Folders" data onto the new computer and getting all of my MessageFilters in the new installation.

So far I have no idea how to get Local Folders moved over, and copying MessageFilters.dat from the old installation to the new installation does nothing. In fact, the only text in the saved dat file is a version number and a logging flag.

I've also completely uninstalled ThunderBird twice (also manually removing the data from AppData each time). Which did not help.

Can anyone help with this?

Since a few months there are update notifications to update my Windows TB 78.14 to the latest version (currently 97.1).

Unfortunately, my 78.14 settings/profile does not get migrated, rather 97.1 shows a form where I can add my e-mail, password and the like. After doing so, the respective mail server (a University mail server) can be used. However my other mail servers (three gmail.com) and three newsgroups groups are not available, nor are any mails from them. There is a total of 6,1 GB of data in the profile, having piled up over the years, if that may be relevant.

Also, using a copy of the TB 78.14 profile does not change the behavior of TB 97.1 (following the advice in <https://support.mozilla.org/de/questions/1352360> will bring up the "Account Setup" screen as if no setup was available).

Going back to TB 78.14 is only possible after restoring the old profile from our backup infrastructure, which takes a *lot* of time given the overall size and is therefore extremely cumbersome, almost inacceptable.

Over all the years I have been using TB I have never experienced such a problem while upgrading to new versions. Asking my colleagues around here (on Windows, Linux, Apple), no one else has experienced this problem, OTOH no one else has such a rather complex and huge installation.

If you have any advice what I can try to do in order to get the migration to TB 97.1 done successfully, I would appreciate it very much. Among other things it would be very important to be able to reuse my rather huge set of filters on TB 97.1. If there is anything I can do or supply to identify the problem, please let me know.

As mail is at the center of most of my work I really would need to get a successful migration from 78.14 to 97.1, so any help highly appreciated!

I have 3 email account from verizon.net to AOL. All are working fine from AOL Mail web page. I was using these accounts via Thunderbird. At some time in last year AOL changed its mail settings and advisesd customer to modify their settings. For Thunderbird you needed to delete accounts and reset them. I delete the accounts and tried to re-install them, to no success. After a wile I reset all account using app passwords generated on AOL Mail web site, All email are receiving just fine, but I am not able to send email from any of the three accounts. I use POP3 with pop.verizon.net 995 SSN and smtp.verizon.net 465 SSL and password authentication. Error message is "Cannot connect to outgoing server, check your address. " Can you help me get what is wrong? Again, receiving email is working, so email addressing is right.

The hard drive on my antique Windows PC (a Dell desktop, 12 years old) finally bit the dust, so I replaced it (40 bucks), reinstalled the Windows 7 OS from Dell's original flash drive and updated to Win 10. I then installed Thunderbird, which immediately took in my messages back to October. I had a profile backup from last December, so I restored from that and all looked pretty good until I realized that while my Personal Address Book survived, the Collected Addresses didn't. In fact, when I look at the Address Books there is no Collected Addresses choice at all. Under All Address Books there is just the Personal.

Now I see that I have two Roaming profiles: xxxxxxxx.default and xxxxxxxx.default-release. I guess that's because the restore set up a different profile from the one created when I installed the program. In both I see history.mab, history.sqlite and history.v2sqlite. The xxxxxxxx.default profile seems to have the history.sqlite from the date of the backup, whereas xxxxxxxx.default-release has a history.sqlite with a current date, which seems to indicate that default-release is what I'm operating with. And that's the one that shows up when I open the folder from Troubleshooting Information. I don't know enough to offer more of a clinical picture here.

I guess to start I need to know what to do about the two-profile business. How do I merge them or whatever needs to be done? Will this solve the case of the missing Collected Addresses book? Or get me on the way?

I was unable to send emails from TBird version 91.7.0, so I removed TBird, rebooted and reinstalled it again. I know about the ATT secure mail key/initial password, so that is not an issue.

The problem is that when I go through the TBird setup procedure, it connects, but using only POP3. IMAP is not a choice., and I need IMAP to sync our accounts into TBird on the PCs.

When I try to use manual setup, and the IMAP port 993 it will not work.

Do I need to remove my name from TBird somehow - if so, how to do it?
