Thunderbird is reported as being up to date here, but it keeps trying to update the same version every day. I asked before and it was suggested I make the update sites exceptions in AVG, made no difference.

Hi, I have Thunderbird running on old pc (Windows 10) with a few years of emails I need to be able to access.

I have a new Windows 11 and want to download these emails from the server onto my pc.

I follow article https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1282954, but my new PC doesn't have the option "Account Settings > Synchronization & Storage" (it does on the old) instead it has 'Disk Space' in the same place in the option list.

Waht am I missing?

If not, how do I transfer the mail file from the old pc to the new pc (maintaing the folder structure etc...

(note. i'm very wary of posting this question here, as i've been told off, this apparently not being the right place for such matters. but this is where i get to from "Help>Submit Feedback…" in Thunderbird, and also Bugzilla leads me here. if this is not the right place, please can someone kindly tell me where is?)

102.2.2 has really messed things up for me. i can't see any emails after August 9th in any of my Saved Searches, and this is causing real problems.

i've tried deleting the global database and reindexing, but that did nothing.

[Mac OS 10.12.6 Sierra]

I'm tempted to use Uninstall on the 102.3.0 occurrence but I don't want to mess things up. What is the best way to remove the duplicate in Apps & Features? Thanks.

Hello, I have my thunderbird data files (emails, etc.) on a separate drive. I had windows, apps on an SSD. The ssd got corrupted so I had to reinstall. Now I need to have Thunderbird point to the files on the separate drive. I have been trying to figure it out from your support articles but it gets way too confusing, especially since the new version of Thunderbird is different from the version I had before. Can you help me? Thank you

Do you remember the GMail advertisement "never delete an email again"? So 17 years later, I want to move to a privacy respecting email provider, and I got myself a 27GB of old emails. I do not want to pay ~8$/mo for the luxury of having every attachment from 2014 available, I do not want to self-host a mailserver for that purpose either, and so 17 years later I come to old good .pst, only that nowadays I'd rather not lock in myself in a proprietary format, so here I am.

The solution I have in mind is a yearly read-only ~1GB sized mbox file backed up to an immutable storage, accessible from the laptop and office PC. I wish I would be able to open the mbox archives from android or nextcloud portal, but for some reason there are no such apps (Question #0: am I missing some obvious solution to access my archives from web/smartphone?).

The way to the solution splits in 3.

New incoming messages should be forwarded by gmail to the new provider of choice, let's call it for shorthand vivaldi. So the clients, TB on the PC should not check the gmail inbox at all. Replying to these messages however should be done via the gmail account. I think I can accomplish that just by configuring two accounts in TB for gmail and Vivaldi. Question #1 Is there some smarter way to manage a ghost gmail account so that I do not mistakenly reply from the wrong address?

Intermediate messages from the past ~2 years should be moved entirely to vivaldi server. I guess I can sync TB to gmail, define a rule that moves all messages newer than 1/1/2021 to vivaldi/Archive and run it on gmail/AllMail. Question #2 is it the correct way to transfer messages? How do ensure they are deleted on gmail server?

Old messages should be split into yearly local archives. It looks like the gmail account Copies&Folders/Archives feature should be useful. Question #3 How do I move the whole existent gmail web archive to local yearly mbox files and delete it from the server?

The questions might sound trivial, but the operation is rather scary and long, so I prefer to sound dumb and ask first.

Hello, my computer died but before it did i backed up my Thunderbird profile files - the backup is 77.8GB so big to zip using export. I installed Thunderbird v.102.8.0 64 bit; and copied my backed up files over and now my email account list shows when clicking the dropdown arrow next to "get messages" but the email account list (72 email accounts) does not show in the left hand pane.

I have attached images of what I see, what is showing in app data - both local and roaming, and also of both .ini files.

Using the troubleshooting setting the software is pointing to the correct location.

I would truly appreciate your help.

I have been using Thunderbird for many years, untill march 2023. Then an authentication error made an end to it. I have tried everything I could find on internet, uninstalled Thunderbird, removed everything from the program / data / roaming directory, deleted everything I could find and checked that cookies are allowed. I have used BlueMail as an alternative but I love Thunderbird much more, so I now tried again to make a fresh start when a new installation of the latest version of Thunderbird. Connecting to the email server of caiway works fine, but I am unable to connect to a gmail. I have tried two different gmail accounts, both give the same error "Unable to connect". Is there anything I can do to solve this problem and enjoy using Thunderbird again?

Hi Just changed computers and have Thunderbird 102.8.0 64bit installed. All emails present and correct. Trouble is all my addresses are gone. I backed it up from the old computer using MozBackup. I know its old, but not sure how else to do it. Anyhow, although everything else came across from the back up, the email addresses didnt. I thought it might be in my Google account, but that seems to just have all the names but no addresses?? Any ideas??

Hello. i am in need of desperate help.my wife uses Thunderbird and we have an email account name@oldprovider.net.au now they have decided that they are no longer going to support/keep the email server side operational and have only given us only to the 5/10/23 to get another email supplier.

They have included in there email a company (called "The Message Company") that if we go with them all our emails will be ported over to this company. I have read part of the terms and conditions product disclosure and they just about want to know everything (being nasty here, but in my words, like what did you last have to eat, when did you last go to the toilet,where did you last travel to etc, i think you get the point) anyway too much reading and disclosure for me.

Now i use Firefox and absolutely love it, and i do contribute dollar wise when i can as i am only on the pension and my wife uses Thunderbird and she loves it. So you can help me in explaining how i can make up a new email address but still use Thunderbird.

Now i went into accounts in Thunderbird and imported my wife's Gmail account but now when she gets an Gmail email it goes into her Gmail account as well as into Thunderbird. Is there anyway of creating a new email address in have Thunderbird use it.

If i create one in outlook i have to setup outlook but then if she gets an email for outlook once again it goes to outlook and then to Thunderbird. I would just like to create an email address and it just goes to a server and then straight to Thunderbird just like it is/was now. thank you in advance Garry

Using Macbook Air M1 with Monterey.

I've spent most of the night trying to find a solution to the blank, unresponsive screen since TB updated. No folders, accounts, messages, etc. *(see attached image). I'm not the only one with this problem, but in all the "solved" discussions of this problem, none of the solutions have worked for me.

I've toggled between themes, uninstalled/reinstalled TB, checked all settings and configs, run in troubleshoot mode, cleared the caches... Nothing has worked.

I'm able to create and send new messages from this blank page, and I receive them on my other devices. So, it would seem my configs are fine. Kind of lost at this point. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I had to update from an older version of TB to the latest due to the gmail security changes. I had an security/authentication issue that was brilliantly solved by a contributor here.

I have now realised that the update caused another problem ... my address book is empty. I have been doing much searching and reading about this and it seems that the problem is that there was a failure to convert the old .mab address file to the new .sqlite address file that the newer TB version uses. What I could not really find is the definitive answer.

I do not have any .mab.bak files in my profile folder. I have:

  • abook.mab(44KB and filled with addresses)
  • abook.sqlite (256KB and filled with zeros)
  • history.mab (77KB and filled with addresses)
  • history.sqlite (256KB and filled with zeros)

From what I read, the option open to me is to downgrade TB (all the others appear to rely on the .mab.bak files), export the address book, upgrade TB again and then import the exported address book. What I'm hoping is that someone here know a simpler way in which I can get the new TB to convert or "see" the old .mab file.

I downloaded Thunderbird 102.4 and upgraded from the previous version(which was whatever the previous most recent release on the release channel was). It's copied/restored most of my folders and their contents but some now have headers only and some mailboxes now only have titles and no contents. I log onto two different mailservers for email but there seem to be problems and successes for both servers so it all seems a bit random. Just wondering what's happened and has anyone else experienced this? I shut down the computer and when I started up the following day and the missing emails had returned - so if you have this problem maybe a restart would sort it.
