Yesterday I downloaded Thunderbird to Windows 10 (64-bit), added my Office 365 (for work or school) account, rocketmail account and iCloud account. I created unified folders for the three accounts. I have downloaded the TBSync add-on with the required CavDev (?) one to connect my iCloud calendar.

After successful use the first few times, now Thunderbird becomes unresponsive within 5 seconds of opening, every time, rendering the program unusable.

Troubleshooting mode does not fix the problem, so I assume it's not the add-ons, nor does starting my PC in Safe Mode (F4 at startup ie no networking), so I assume it's not antivirus.

I uninstalled Thunderbird and re-installed from the website today. All my accounts were there (so I wonder if the uninstall didn't work properly, although I assume that it's just the files left on my computer that the new Thunderbird installation is accessing).

All these attempted fixes leave the problem unchanged: the window freezing within seconds of opening.

Because the program becomes listed as 'not responding' and greys out on further clicks, I have to hard-close the program using Windows, selecting 'Close the progam'. Clicking 'Wait for the program to respond' leaves the screen greyed out, and nothing changes for at least 20 minutes (the maximum I've tried waiting it out). This also means that it does not yield a formal crash report, because Thunderbird does not recognise it has crashed.

On one occasion it did create a crash report, which I submitted. I am not sure what behaviour allowed this to happen, and I have been unable to reproduce it. That particular crash ID was as follows:

Any help much appreciated! I'd love to stick with Thunderbird if possible.

I recently had to re-install Windows. I saved my Thunderbird profile. I re-installed Thunderbird and when imported my profile, I could retrieve my messages but could not send messages. I attempted to change the settings and wound up creating two additional Pop3 accounts. Now I can't send or retrieve messages. My provider is Charter/Spectrum. I have tried all the settings they suggested. How do I get out of this fix? Thanks.

I'm about the 100th person to have this problem, so I have spent the better part of two days looking at all the threads and possible fixes. Like all the others, with no warning, my TBird stopped being able to send messages through Spectrum. It did NOT start immediately after I updated TBird to 115.9.0 (in March) but just three days ago. I have three roadrunner addresses in TBird, and one other one associated with a website I have. All have the same problem. My phone and my iPad send messages just fine.

I tried all the fixes that worked for some. They didn't work for me; I continued to get various, inconsistent Send Message Errors. I have come back to the recommended Spectrum setup for the outgoing SMTP server: mail.twc.com, Security is STARTTLS, Port 587, Authentication is Normal Password, my username is my email address. Of course the problem is not fixed.

What DID work was putting TBird in Troubleshooting mode, using the Spectrum setup above. While that is adequate, I would much rather find out what is wrong. I have Matt's 10/7/23 11:56 AM answer to someone, asking for the Troubleshooting Information. I will be glad to supply that but I need an answer to this message in order to do that. Thanks! Demaris

When I start T'bird in normal mode, I get what you see in picture #1. Notice the custom menu bar at the top. I can still receive emails into the Inbox (but can't see or access them), and I can write an email, access the Address Book, Calendar, etc.

When I then start in Safe mode, with Shift key down, I get what you see in Picture #2. Notice that the custom menu bar at the top is gone. I have to recreate it every time I shut down and restart T'bird. That is unacceptable.

Please advise what I should do to correct this situation. If I can't, then I'm through with Thunderbird (after some 15+ years).

When I am deleting emails, I frequently end up with the same email as most recent in my inbox and thus automatically selected. This opens a new tab with the same email as content and soon my tab section is filled up with multiple versions of the same few emails and the inbox tab pushed off the screen.

Can there not be a setting to open up the existing tab if it has the same content. Or alternatively a way to pin the folder tab (normally inbox) on the left of the tabs permanently.

Other tabbed applications do not open up multiple tabs with the same content.

Yes I could shut the unwanted, repeated tab each time Thunderbird opens it, but I don't want to have to.

This seems like an easy feature? Please??

I am running Ver 115.10.0 build 2024012173147. Rebooting windows 11 makes no difference.... I just tried to enter Troubleshoot mode and thunderbird stopped responding....Top line says Mozilla Thunderbird (Not Responding). Thunderbird is connected to my gmail account. ...and I run IMAP....with 'store all messages on the computer', but thunderbird wants to load every email from the server'

After the latest update, Thunderbird does not open. On line instructions say to erase some programs in it's file location. Did that, and the program booted. However, today, it will not open again. Can you fix this issue with another release, or should I try to go back to the previous release? If so, how to go back to the previous release without losing all my set up? I'm using the latest version of THUNDERBIRD for WINDOWS (now 10 HOME), but this problem has existed for years with previous versions of THUNDERBIRD and former releases of WINDOWS, both HOME & PRO releases. And, it seems to be very specific. When i receive e-mails from (especially) 2 friends who both use AOL as their e-mail client, when I receive them, the imaged files (or memes) are always 'converted into attachments, and what shows in the Body Text of the e-mails is empty boxes. Yet, when I get e-mails from others, including from commercial sources, if there are images within the Body Text, they are present there. This IS very annoying because many times the e-mails I get from these two friends are technical e-mails, with clarifying images as part of the Body Text. When I have mentioned this to them, their responses are that n one else complains, only me, and so the problem MUST BE at my end, but that doesn't make sense, since when I receive e-mails from others (Gmail, etal.) any included images are fully where they belong. ++++++++++++++++++++ Secondly, WHY is it that when there are threaded e-mails in the Sent folder, the ARROW to expand the thread appears at the left side, but in the Delete folder the ARROW appears between the title of the e-mail & the next column? This IS very annoying!!!! Also, when I'm in the DELETE folder, sometimes only two options appear at the right side: Archive Delete, BUT in other incidences, there's a plethora of alternative options, and the Delete option is positioned in a different place. More often than not, I click on the option to send it e-mail to the Archive folder, when I really wanted to Delete it permanently. Another major annoyance!!!! Thank you robert herold
