Thunderbird has just totally tanked

I started my Mac Thunderbird 2 days ago and all of my email accounts were blank.

Everything from the Library files were deleted.

Anything to offer? This happened about 5-6 years ago.

I can go into my TimeMachine back-up and redo the entire drive or, hopefully, less than that just all of the Thunderbird stuff in the Library section.

Regardless, how the hell does this happen? This occured after updating to your latest version a day or so earlier.

I often need to add a single pixel border/line around an inline image (an image just dropped into the body of the email). For many years I have been able to select the image, hit the 'link/anchor/image' button, knock the up arrow on the 'solid border' option and click ok.

Now, when I hit the 'link/anchor/image' button the radio button next to 'Alternate text' is selected. I have to remember to UNselect it every time or I get the intenseley annoying error "If the image is relevant to the content of the document you must supply alternate text, blah blah blah..." then do it all again.

I don't think we should be forced to add alt text, nor unselect the button every time. Surely this alt text button shouldn't be selected - it means that by simply hitting the 'link/anchor/image' button and then OK (without actually soing anything) an error dialogue is provoked! This can't be right, can it?

Keyboard mapping is always UK

Using Fedora 36, local keyboard map setting is Italian in gnome, but thunderbird still use uk and there is no way to change it.

I'm sure I've always had years of emails in my Bins, but recently noticed 1 Bin only having about 1mth's. They go back years in All Mail. 1 account's Bin has had emails put in during the last month, but is empty. I just tapped on another, an account not used much now, where I've kept seeing emails from a long time ago. On tapping, I could see them all for a split second, then they vanished. I want to keep all my deleted emails in my Bins.

Thunderbird 68 - deliberately not updating. Server Settings > When I delete a msg: Move it to Bin. Storage: neither option ticked (neither checked, if you're American). Synchronisation > Msg Synchronising > Keep in all folders. Advanced > all ticked. Disc Space > Synchronise all regardless of age. Don't delete any.

Gmail > Forwarding & IMAP > IMAP access: Auto-Expunge off. Archive the msg. Do not limit.

Any help greatly appreciated.

I am a long time user of T-bird now on version 91.9.1 (32-bit) using Win 10, home. I use T-bird as a client for my gmail.

My Tbird and email work fine but it does not "get messages" when I click. I have Account Settings/Server Settings set to "check for new messages every 10 minutes" but sometimes it can be hours before it queries the server. I have found that if I exit T-bird and re-open twice, it contacts the server and pulls down the pending email. Not once; it has to be twice. Most of it comes in through gand when it pulls down messages seems to be random.

Hello,

I sometimes receive large file attachment while using Thunderbird. My current version is 91.9.1. When I try to save the attachment to local computer, it saves the file as 1KB file size with no error messages or anything. I did not have this problem in the past with older Thunderbird version.

Does this problem happens only in the newer version? I was able to download the same attachment using gmail. I hope that I do not have to go through this every time I get a large file attachment.

Hello! I have an issue with email, many times when I go to read one or the content is something completely different or it shows something like this below, any ideas? I have created a completely new profile and to fix this temporary I need to repair the folder, I do this almost daily...see below:

I have spent hours on this but have not solved it. I recently installed Restoro software with CyberGhost and had some problems which were solved by adding VPN exceptions. However, even with these turned off (including VPN) the problem persists.

i cannot receive from Gmail addresses either.

In brief I can send emails from Thunderbird to any addresses except Gmails. I can not received emails from Gmail addresses either.

Thunderbird notifications not working

I recently installed Thunderbird 9.1.5 as a completely fresh first time installation (never had Thunderbird on this computer before) on Windows 10.

Under Preferences - Incoming Mails I have 1 'App icon options' checked to 'Show badge icon' and 'Count of unread messages' (I also tried 'Count of new messages' but neither made any difference to the issue) 2 I have 'Show an alert' checked and in the Customise options I have all 3 checked

   I have 'Use the system notification' checked

3 I have 'Show a tray notification' checked

In Windows 10 Settings 'Notifications & Actions' I have Mozilla Thunderbird 'On' (underneath it says On: Banner Sounds)

In no case at all is any notification icon whatsoever appearing.

Both the desktop icon and the taskbar icon (pinned to taskbar) are present

4 Whether I check or uncheck 'Play a sound' I always get a sound (Surely if it is unchecked I should NOT get a sound!)

This lack of notification ICON is a real problem if I am not in the room when a new message comes through

If I'm at the computer when a new message arrives (whether Thunderbird is minimised or open) I see a brief flash of the email subject and hear the bleep (At that point I don't actually want to hear the bleep but it WILL NOT turn off). However this doesn't help when I'm elsewhere. I need a notification icon to sit in the taskbar or tray until I come back to the laptop

I have compared this with other computers. My settings on this new installation are exactly the same as on other computers.

I have compared the mail.biff entries in Config Editor in this new installation with other computers and the entries are exactly alike

Can anyone tell me why this new installation is not giving me a notification icon and how to fix it please ? Also if possible tell me how to turn off the sound when unchecking 'Play an alert' does not work ?

I send out 4 or 5 small photos to a dozen friends each week. (Less than a megabyte each) For some of them, the email ends in their SPAM folder with the message "This email has failed its domain's authentication requirements. It may be spoofed or improperly forwarded!" I've done this for years with no problems. Only since about TB version 91.9.0 have I had this problem. Note: it may have started after I used TB's "inline images" option in attachments. Please advise.

As far as my current understanding of it, the so called "activity manager" seems to be more of an "activity monitor", in that, after bringing it up, I've tried right clicking on it, and various things, to allow me to "manage" activities, but have been unsuccessful. Does it just show the results of activities, i.e. monitor them? Or can activities actually be managed from the "activity manager"?

Thunderbird eMail misbehavior with messages read/unread status

My Thunderbird version 91.9.1 (64-bit) running on Ubuntu 4.15.0-180.189-generic 4.15.18 is exhibiting an annoying behavior, where previously "read" messages keep (randomly) reverting back to "unread" status. I've already tried to "repair" my Inbox directory (which took over a week to rebuild while operating 24x7), but this problem still persists. I never had this problem before (even with my Inbox containing nearly 200K messages) until an unknown prior version upgrade of Thunderbird started to manifest this mis-behavior. I currently have 55K messages retained in my Inbox and am constantly reducing that by moving selected groups of messages into sub-directories separate from my Inbox.

Additionally, I've noticed that downloading of received (but "unread") messages appear to be taking much longer than before (hence the extraordinarily long time for "repair" to rebuild my Inbox directory?).

How can I recover normal (ie, stable) read/unread message status behavior, and accelerate received messages downloads?
