I have recently switched from MS Outlook to Thunderbird/Lightning. So far, reasonably so good. One thing that continues to frustrate me is an issue with calendar reminder popups. I thought I was not getting them, but now I think I'm getting them but they disappear. Some research suggests that it may have already been reported that reminder popups will disappear once Thunderbird checks for new mail, and what I'd vastly prefer is for a calendar reminder popup to stay, well, popped-up until I dismiss it.

Am I missing something? Maybe a setting somewhere? Or is this a known issue that has yet to be solved?

I did have a massive problem when I imported my Outlook calendar in that I got reminder popups for every calendar entry back to the dawn of time, and which would NOT dismiss no matter how many times I tried, so I enabled the setting to not remind me about past events.

It seems as if I may have to choose between two unacceptable options: either re-enable reminders for past events, so that when Thunderbird checks for mail any undismissed reminder popups will remain (or re-popup), or live with the reminder popups disappearing (and, the whole reason I'm writing this, I'll miss calendar events if I don't happen to be glued to my computer for the 30 minutes the popup will exist). Is there not some other option?

Hello and thank you for your article on installing Thunderbird. I read it and saw that it loaded and installed as said but did not cover this issue. I was also on the Thunderbird support chat room yesterday for over 2 hours. There was no one there who could answer this question. I want to use Thunderbird for my domain, its webserver host IVC Hosting. They recommend your program. I used to use Eudora for my domain. When I downloaded Thunderbird yesterday it immediately asked me for my password to my ISP's email account of AT&T.net. I do not want to use AT&T. I have a webhost. I have an address for it and pop and imap servers and their port numbers. I do not see anywhere on this inbox page it first takes you to after downloading the program where you can put in your servers address or port numbers etc. In order to do anything it just keeps asking for your AT&T mail password. First of all, I don't even have a password because I've never used ATT's mail. Plus I see no place where you can delete it OR enter another server. It has locked itself into believing it has to lock on to the ISP it sees, so there is nothing I can do to get started. Have I downloaded the wrong version of Thunderbird? This version seems like a simplified one that just adds to your ISP's email or Gmail, Yahoomail etc. I am hoping you can direct me to downloading and installing another version of Thunderbird that is made for domain webhosting services. Also upon downloading your program I was under my VPN (always), how does it know my AT&T user name??? I didn't even know it. I did use Thunderbird about 12 years ago for this same domain and I did not have this problem then. Thank you for your help, It will help many people who write in if I can get this problem sorted out.

For years I try to switch form Outlook 2010 to Thunderbird. Among others I've tried the Thunderbird Setup 31.8.0 route (partly successful, but after an update to the current version of Thunderbird, I lost all data), the new Thunderbird 102.0b4 Beta, all unsuccessfully. Like the normal version 102.0.3

I have Outlook 2010 version:14.0.7268.5000 (32 bits) and Thunderbird 102.0.3 (64bits). I choose “Import from outlook”. I get the error in a red line “no profile found”. Old agenda, contacts and e-mails are very important to me. So a clean install is not a option. If I'am not successful to migrate, I've to upgrade Outlook.

1 is 32 to 64 bits the problem? 2 is direct import from pst file possible? 3 where is Thunderbird looking for the file / profile? Is putting a copy in that location a solution? 4 other suggestions?

Have used Thunderbird for years, decades even, on multiple PC's, family and friends, and home PC's. Even donated a few times over those years but this one has me stumped and honestly a bit miffed.

I got 102 update and it completely broke my 2 POP and 1 IMAP accounts. New Passwords, cleared files, all the business you find here and online. Saw someone revert back to v91 which I had prior. Did that, worked like a charm and the prior existing accounts that did NOT work; started working again instantly. Proves I had the right accounts/passwords.

Next day, launch TB and it's updated again to 102; hmm. Downgrade again a second time on 2 PC's and go my business. It's now been 4 days and I've put registry keys in, used Config Editor and did all the "do not auto update" things I've read and still, today after a long and wicked day; I find starting TB it's yet again auto updated to 102.

Help please? I'm an IT guy of over 30 years and this one has me stumped and doing side-eye and I don't like it. Is there an honest and true way to NOT UPDATE to 102? Sorry, upset and have never had an issue *ever* with TB these years but this one is quite annoying downgrading daily.

Thank you Ictinike (off to downgrade a 5th time)

I have a filter to mark certain messages as read upon arrival (through Tools => Message Filters). This used to work fine until the last major upgrade of Thunderbird. Now the messages do get marked as read, but I am still getting a taskbar notification for a new message, which defeats the purpose of not being alerted to these messages.

Is there a fix or a way around this? I just need 'not to be notified about certain messages', something that used to be achieved by marking them as read automatically, but that doesn't work anymore.

v102.1.2 (64-bit) on Windows 10

Thanks for any help! Gigi

In the Thread pane (AKA 'Message List' pane), TB 102 precedes the Subject field with an angled arrow pointed to the left if the message has been Replied-to, and pointed to the right if it has been Forwarded. Those icons are combined into a third icon - with arrows pointing both left and right - when the post in question has been both Replied-to and Forwarded. All this is straightforward icon design: the third icon uses a combination of the first two icons to signify the combination of their respective meanings.

The icon colors are just the opposite. The Replied-to icon is purple and the Forwarded icon is blue, so we have 'Replied-to' icon= left-purple, AND 'Forwarded' icon = right-blue. BUT the combined 'Replied-to AND Forwarded' icon = left-blue AND right-purple. So the relationship of direction to color is not consistent, but inverted. Do these cross-attributes have any significance?

It was not always so. These attributes used to be applied with consistent, rather than inverted, meanings. A Mozillazine article shows an earlier version. The icons are different (the article vintage is TB 2.0, and much has been tweaked since then), but there the arrow colors and directions are mutually reinforcing {Replied: green-left; Forwarded: purple-right; Replied and forwarded: green-left and purple-right} - so the color and direction attributes coordinate to reinforce the functional significance.

How can I find the release notes covering the change in these icons, to see what significance is intended?

As you can see in attached image, the subject (date and sender) in the emails list is the just-received email i was waiting for... but the contents is one another old email (from Paypal) in another local folder ! When I open the email in a new thunderbird's tab , same thing. I deleted the amil, from deletede folder list the subject is still correct but the contents is bad. I restore the email in my main inbox and then the subject is the old's email subject : i lost completly the new email that I just received....

What a weird behavior ?

That is a serious mistake!

There is another bug i saw since a few years ; ghost lines in some folder email lists without any subject, and a received-date from 01/01/1970 !!!

Each time I open Thunderbird I must enter my gmail password. If I try to fill the PW the pop-up keeps coming back, if I abort (twice), the account is working as normal (I can both send and receive emails) so the password is correctly used by Thunderbird. I followed all tips given by both Google and Mozilla support sites but there is no change in the behaviour. In stored passwords I see an entry for the oauth for the gmail account. How can I get rid of this useless pop-up?

Using Thunderbird v102.1.2 Platform: iMac running Mojave 10.14.6 email: [edited from public] @earthlink.net

Unable to link to an Apple Mail account (on iCloud). Tried every solution on the web and still nothing happens when I complete the new calendar form (which seems to be different from many of the examples on the web}. Using the same information and entering it into my older Sunbird account, it links up immediately.

This seems like a simple problem, and I am willing to settle for a read-only sync, but after numerous hours of research and attempts, nothing works.

I am apparently doing something wrong in Thunderbird/Lightning. Please advise your thoughts.

Thank you

Hello,

I can receive all emails normally, however there is one sender/particular email address that I cannot receive emails from. I have been shown proof that the sender has the correct email address and has sent numerous emails. I have added the email into my address book in hopes that it would show thunderbird that it is a familiar address or safe sender. I don't have any issues with any other sender, just this one.

Is there anything I can do on my end to allow this email through or is there a reason why I can't receive emails from this one sender?

Thank you

I've tried a multitude of options and searching google. Oh and let's not forget 5 min of being circle jerked here, just to ask a question.

I would like to open a tab where I can display all my important and starred emails for quick access. I don't mean opening a completely new window. Just one Thunderbird client open, while being able to open tabs which can be different categories.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Thanks for any help.

I'll try to keep this as concise as possible, but I'm still using Win 7 and TB 91.11.0. I've been using TB for more years than I can remember and my TB data folder is 24 Gig. For simplicity, I have always backed up the entire TB folder with EaseUs ToDo Backup on a daily basis. My service provider has changed hands and all my ISP settings have changed. (For the 3rd or 4th time over the years) As result, I had 3 or 4 accounts with this ISP, and to cover any stray email addresses coming in, had them all set up to accept them, with each one forwarding to my "Local Folder". All has been working fine now for nearly 10 years. When the ISP changed over, it all stopped!

In my effort to change any one of the incoming addresses to accomodate the new setting requirements, I got all tangled up and lost any connection ability at all. To recover, I tried to remove each of the accounts in the settings, and now have lost ALL my mail and mail boxes. Because I have been backing up daily, I thought it would be simple to use my daily backups to restore to the last date that things worked. What I never anticipated, was it taking 20 hours to do the restore. And then the account settings still reflected my latest attempts to "fix" things.

Since there are SO many files and folders on the HD where my data resides, is there a way to isolate the necessary files needed to get me back to what it was when it went down? The only thing that really needed to be changed was my account settings for the ISP. But because of the complexity of the file structure, I'm wary of slicing and dicing some of these files. One good thing about EaseUs ToDo Backup, is I can use my file explorer to open the backed up files and structure.

Any help or suggestions would be gratefully appreciated. gshantz

Hi, I am running Thunderbird version 102.1.2 on Windows 10. I run 3 email accounts through Thunderbird. For a while now when Thunderbird first started up, I randomly would receive imap connections exceeded error. I unselected hardware acceleration and for whatever reason, that problem went away.

Now my problem is it seems to hang downloading new emails. You can see the blue line across the bottom just sit there. It don't display what account is hanging on. If I go up and check get all messages, it then seems to work ok. I tested it a few times once it had already been started for the day by closing and reopening it, seems to work fine. It seems this occurred on a fresh boot up.

One other issue at times, it seems to get laggy in deleting emails but then works ok No issues noted in sending emails.
