In the recent versions of Thunderbird (102.2.x, 102,3,3, 106.0b5, and possibly earlier) searching messages no longer works on my home system.

On the main message screen, the Quick Search field used to let me quickly filter out messages with a subject or sender matching whatever I put in that field. It would in fact start filtering matches as I'm typing. This no longer happens, with multiple email addresses (such as GMail, or my ISP).

If I bring up the full search dialogue while on a folder from one of my email accounts (so that it should be able to guess which account I'm searching in) the "Search for messages in" field is greyed out. with the text "No available folders".

The thing is, my work computer with Thunderbird 102.2.0 still has functional search (both Ouick Find and the full search dialogue).

TB 102.5.0 (64-bit) on Win10 I'm getting repeated notices that my e-mail accounts with Network Solutions don't have a proper "certificate" when I try to send an email. I get a popup window stating so, and asking me to "permanently" choose the exception. It doesn't matter how many times I tell the fool thing to accept the exception "permanently". I still keep getting the notice every few times. Since the glitch is not consistent, I don't have an image of one to put here. Not only that, I have to send the email twice after doing so. TB refuses to send the email the first time after choosing the exception, but allows it the second. I don't know anything about "certificates" and am sick of getting popup notices about them. I doubt that the problem is with Network Solutions email accounts. This reminds me of years ago, when I tried to upgrade to WinXP. It kept interrupting my work to give me popup security notices that I didn't understand and couldn't do anything about. If I remember correctly, I took it back to Sam's Club and replaced it with Win2000. Problem solved. Never mind that XP was supposed to be better. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I've been happily using the feed from https://feeds.feedburner.com/LICD for quite a while, but in the last few days, suddenly Thunderbird 91.10.0 (64-bit) gives me the feed "is not authorized" error. Previous solution https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1166672 isn't working for me - Lightning is no longer an extension, so I can't deactivate it. I'd remove the calendar function entirely if I could - I don't use it.

Going to advanced preferences and pulling up calendar.useragent.extra gives me radio buttons to select Boolean, Number, or String with a plus sign to add it. Adding one doesn't fix it. Setting to false doesn't fix it. Deleting the one I added doesn't fix it. Right click only gives me Select All, which highlights all text on screen and does nothing.

Most of my other feeds are fine, and checking the website shows the RSS URL has not changed. I have read a couple of other complaints about this same issue, and, apparently there is a bug concerning this issue at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1694001 but it has been stalled for over two years.

Is anyone going to do something about this?

I have been struggling with this issue for some time and finally thought maybe someone in the support forums could help. Here is my concern:

I have two laptops, each running Thunderbird. They both can access my local ISP and download email – whatever email is on that server will download to both laptops, no matter which one polls for it first. And mail will remain on that server until I delete it from there since TB is set to leave messages on server.

I thought I could set up my Gmail account that way – so that each laptop using TB could download all recent email – and both could get all of the email, no matter which one accessed it first.

Well – it doesn’t seem that it works that way. If I download the email to laptop A – then when I try from laptop B – it doesn’t download any that was already downloaded to laptop A, and visa versa, since apparently it is only downloading each email once – to whichever laptop polls for it first – not both like my local email server.

I have Gmail set up as POP, with the option to leave messages on server checked, and each laptop works fine independently – but all of the email can never be downloaded to both laptops – one is always missing some.

After I download any messages, the messages that are downloaded are not marked as read on the Gmail server - they remain marked as unread, but they will only download to the first laptop that polls for new messages.

I was hoping that someone might be able to tell me a trick to make this work. I do not want to change to IMAP since it seems that would make the "confusion" worse - if one laptop deletes a message, it would be deleted from the server as well. I want to continue to use POP3, but I want each laptop to operate independently and be able to get all of the new email that is on the server - no matter which one polls first.

I did read the info about Recent mode - but I'm not sure that will work as it seems it will only "show" 30 days of emails - what about the rest? I have many going back several years that I want to keep, and don't want anything to delete them either from TB or Gmail.

Seems there must be a way to do this, and it seems like it is a TB issue in the settings.

Thunderbird version 102.7.0 is not working correctly or has wrong built in defaults. When creating a new email the (To field) does not look in the contacts file for email address starting with those entered characters to give you a choice to select from. This was standard function of older version of Thunderbird. Even after manual entering (TO field) the just entered email address is not being automatically added to the contact list like previous TB versions did. This is a real show stopper.

Can anyonte tell me how to add the OpenDocument (LibreOffice) mime types to Thunderbird?

When I get .odt attachments in my emails, I do not get an option to "Open" the file, or to "Choose which application to use" to open the file.

Is there a way to add these mime types? .odt, .ods, .odp, .odg

BTW ... One would think that, with +200 million LibreOffice users worldwide, these mime types would be part of the default mimes added to Thunderbird along with the others. It would send the notion that Thunderbird supports the open document formats as well as proprietary formats.

I am using Thunderbird 52.9.1 on XPMode (virtual Windows XP) and since quite some time my OAuth2 Gmail accounts have stopped working from Thunderbird 52.9.1: I am requested to enter password and other stuff but then nothing happens in terms of receiving (IMAP) or sending (SMTP) emails.

Don't know if this is related, but I am aware of the Gmail changes occurred around end of May 2022: [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/automatic-conversion-google-mail-acc...]

Are there any ways (tips/tricks, advanced or not) to have OAuth2 Gmail accounts working again on Thunderbird 52.9.1?

Hi there,

I am using Thunderbird on different computers withe the same accound with a shared local folder. Recently subfolders have disappeared from the local message folder.

But they are still there when I check in the folder on my hard drive.

I tried to erase various files, but no change :

- global-messages-db.sqlite - session.json - virtualFolders.dat - folderCache.json - folderTree.json

I am trying to upload some emails via Thunderbird into an IMAP mailbox. I'm having to do this in 2 steps as they are stored in an MBOX file Step 1 is to load them all into a local folder in Thunderbird - no problems there, all 2279 emails load Step 2 is to copy them folder in IMAP mailbox. However, many of them disappear. They are all phishing emails and I believe some (or all) of those that disappear have viruses with them - however, I need to keep them for testing. I can't find anywhere in Thunderbird where they may be being scanned.

I'm running Thunderbird in a Linux VM on a Windows machine. I've excluded the directory where the VM is stored from checking by my AV software. I've also (just in case) disabled my AV software entirely, but this hasn't made any difference.

I've found where Thunderbird scans for phishing emails and turned that off. I can't find anything in Thunderbird that scans for viruses, or if it does what happens to them.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I'm trying to set up Thunderbird (version 102.6.1, under Windows 10) to work with my Gmail account. I hope someone can help me understand what is happening.

First I enabled IMAP protocol in Gmail. Then I started "Add a new account" in Thunderbird and entered my name, email address, and email password. Thunderbird displayed details of the configuration it set for me, which looked correct: incoming, IMAP with SSL/TLS; outgoing, SMTP with SSL/TLS.

When I clicked Done, Thunderbird opened a browser window in which Gmail prompted me to sign in. The correct email address was prefilled.

I clicked Next and was prompted for the password; I entered the password and clicked Sign In.

Gmail displayed a page that asked whether Thunderbird should be allowed to access my account. I clicked Allow.

The browser window closed, returning me to the Thunderbird configuration screen, which displayed both of these messages:

  • (Yellow background) Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration username or password.
  • (Green background) (checkmark) Checking permission.

So, Thunderbird seems to be saying that Google failed to authenticate me, and simultaneously, that it's in the process of authenticating me (although it never reports that it has finished).

If Google failed to authenticate me, why did it prompt me to allow or deny Thunderbird access?

If Google successfully authenticated me, why does Thunderbird report that it failed?

One possible answer is that I entered my password correctly when Gmail prompted me, but entered it incorrectly in Thunderbird. But I tested that possibility by copying the password from the value I entered in Thunderbird and pasting it into Gmail's password prompt. Gmail said it was correct, so in Thunderbird it must also be correct.

I have been using Thunderbird on a mac for years with no problems. Since yesterday, I have been getting login failed messages as my password is apparently incorrect. I am using macos 13.1, TB 102.6.1 and it is as a POP mail server. The error messages are attached. What is causing these failures? What login password is required? I have changed the password for this account everywhere I can find but these messages keep popping up every few minutes.

I have been running 52.9.1 because it supports all of the add ons I want. v60 also supports the same addons. v68 onwards does not. Most of them have not been replaced (because of removal of APIs for example), and have not been replaced by native Thunderbird options.

The key addons for me are minimize to Tray (yes I know it's available in 102). Security settings from address book (selective encryption - I don't have to globally enable/disable encryption for my S/Mime certs). And Manually sort folders (As I have over 400 and 52.91 does not sort them).

I also use a custom theme. I cannot use dark mode as I'm old and visually impaired and dark themes make stuff impossible for me to read.

I have a dozen email addresses. Each email account has a number of filters which move emails to subfolders on Local Folders. Basically, nothing stays in the inbox of the account.

I use pop for inbound email. I have moved my profile folder and my mail storage off the C:\ drive to simplying restoring of the C:\ drive or reinstsallation of Wiindows. Email and all Mozilla profiles are backed up twice daily using Macrium.

v52.91. is 32bit. I've downloaded the 64 bit v60.9.1

So my question is; Can I install v60 over the top of v52 and expect that Thunderbird will pick up my exiting configuration as it is now and "upgrade" any DBs or profiles or whatever such that I do not have to reconfigure everything?

Given the difference in bitness, is installing v60 going to break the ability to uninstall v52, or will uninstalling v52 after upgrading to v60 break my configuration or lose anything?

FYI: I did try 102 and 68 before asking this question. I also really cannot cope with square tabs. They just look so bad. I've never been able to get any assistance from Reddit regarding customizing the tabs on Thunderbird (or anything else Thunderbird related for that matter).

my situation was like so: I am using Thunderbird 102.6.0 under an up to date Fedora 36. I have an email account registered into Thunderbird. I have an RSA key with a passphrase added which I use to sign an decrypt as needed. I use a master password.

That was the situation before today. No update to Thunderbird have been made since the issue, nor to the system (afaik). I can not sign and decrypt messages anymore through Thunderbird. For instance, when I seek to send a signed email Thunderbird gives me a popup with: `Unable to send the message, because there is a problem with your personal key.`. Signature verification still works so at least Thunderbird can access my public key.

I go to the Thunderbird `Account Settings` and under `End-To-End Encryption` I see that the selected personal key radio button is greyed out. It says that the private is not available or readable (I dont remember, the message disappeared when I selected a radio button repenting an other key in the list...).

I check the Thunderbird OpenPGP manager and see that there is indeed a key for the email address associated to the account (see the attached picture).

This key pair is valid enough so that I can manually encrypt and decrypt using the `gpg` command (using a terminal, not under Thunderbird).

Any idea why Thunderbird forgot about the private key ?
