In last 24 hours or less I upgraded to 91.11.0 and now I have 102! Question is will Thunderbird 102 support TLS 1.2 or higher when used with Ionos. And why am not able to sync all emails in sub folders in my account with Ionos. I know it is a Ionos question but they have not yet answered my question.

I have been using Thunderbird for 25 years now. I downloaded latest version this afternoon but have no clue how long it has been available or what version I had prior to downloading 91.11.0 I use imap.ionos.com and smtp.ionos.com for a really long time. Problem is I had a lot of subfolders with many emails in each one I can see on my ionos.com log into site using Firefox but not anymore with Thunderbird 91.11.0 and current version of Firefox. There are only like 5 usual folders of I received an email from ionos yesterday saying.

Below is from Ionos to me and my email account.

"One or more of your devices or email programs are currently accessing our email servers unencrypted or using the TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 encryption protocols. This includes connections using SMTP (for sending emails) and/or POP3/IMAP (for receiving emails). Both unencrypted access and connections using the outdated TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1 encryption protocols no longer meet current security standards. To protect your email communications, these connections to our email servers will no longer be possible as of 08/09/2022. What does this mean for you? The following email accounts were accessed without encryption: my email address is here *****@*******.com I block letters and numbers. Please make sure that encryption (SSL/TLS) is enabled in your devices or programs. We have summarized how to adjust the settings for some popular email programs in the IONOS Help Center. The following email accounts were accessed with TLS 1.0 or TLS 1.1:

            • @********.com

For email connections between your devices or programs and our email servers to continue working after deactivation, they must support TLS 1.2 or higher."

I really like Thunderbird. Please tell me what is wrong and how to fix. And I called Ionos.com and they could not help with Thunderbird or with TLS 1.2 or higher. Please

I posted this last year and one other person chimed in with the same issues, but there were no responses, and the thread was archived. The other person suggested this problem had been around for a long time and he was using a different email system. I am reposting my observations below in the hope there may be a response or a fix.

I am running TBird 91.9 on a Win10 Pro 21H2 laptop and on a Win10 Pro 21H2 Surface GO. My issue is with my Compuserve/AOL email account which is my primary account. I send email on smtp.compuserve.com and receive on imap.aol.com. The issue is intermittent and usually multiple times per day when it occurs. When I am receiving email I get the message "Server imap.aol.com has disconnected. The server may have gone down or there may be a network problem." What does not make sense is that it may occur on one of my PCs and then I will check the other and it is fine. Or sometimes both give this message but then I can go to my iPhone which also receives from imap.aol.com and it has no problems.

The problem is most severe, almost always occurs when I ask to synch mailboxes to go offline. I ask TBird to download all messages before disconnecting and it successfully downloads all of my Compuserve mailboxes except the InBox and consistently gives the server off line warning.

Are there some TBird settings I can adjust to try to resolve this problem?

I do have Comcast and Gmail accounts that do not appear to have this issue but for historical reasons I would like to retain my AOL/Compuserve as my principal account.

TB 102 - Backslash character added to occurrence of colon in notes on contacts

For example, if I enter "Test: xxxxx" into the note field and save it, it is then displayed as "Text\: xxxxxx".

This seems like a bug to me. Is anyone else seeing this problem?

I have, very reluctantly, had to stop using Windows Live Mail, because gmail will no longer support it. It was a great email program and it did everything I needed. Thunderbird would seem to be the nearest thing I can find to replace Live Mail - but there seems to be some quite staggering basic functions that are missing from it. Maybe I'm alone in wanting to include a picture or two in my emails..? - not as attachments, but as part of 'the visual letter', within the text? Live Mail must be 20 years old at least - but in Live Mail I could insert an image; drag the corners to resize it; add a box rule if I wanted to; and send it on it's way. In 21stC Thunderbird I can, with many a dialogue box, insert an image... but even when I've worked out how to 'resize it', it doesn't actually reduce the file size of the image sent..! So a 7MB image, when 'resized' to something less than 1MB... still actually gets transmitted as a 7MB image - and takes forever! So my question is. How come an ancient, now almost defunct program like Live Mail, is twenty times more agile and user-friendly than 'up-to-date' Thunderbird? And before anyone mentions 'add-ons' - Live Mail did all of this straight out of the box! No 'add-on' searching or anything else required. But maybe including a picture or two in an email is a fairly revolutionary concept? With thanks for your thoughts.

After suffering a disastrous loss of email caused by our web hosting service I've begun to use the Archive function in TB.

The objective is to not lose emails caused by others than myself.

Where are TB Archive folders located specifically? (yes, I understand they are somewhere in my default identity)

If I make a copy of the Archive folder contents located on my computer, put it in a stick drive (for example), delete the entire Archive folder contents located on my computer, can the backed-up folder contents be copied back to the former so that the emails will appear in TB as before?

Or, perhaps you can suggest a simpler way to backup emails?

Hello,

On my new laptop, Thunderbird is locking up and lagging over and over. It happens to everything I try to do when I start the program, and then after I use the program for awhile, everything is OK until I get an incoming email - then Thunderbird locks up until the email is fully loaded.

When I first load the program lags are happening when I: Select a menu, choose an email to view, when I try to type something the cursor freezes and then after a short wait it types what I just typed. Pretty much all operations lag a lot, even clicking on the X to close the window. After I use the program for awhile, this gets better, but not 100%. As I mentioned the program lags when I get an incoming email.

I only have one add-on installed and it's disabled. It's called, "Manually Sort Folders." I have the latest version of Thunderbird. I'm running Windows 11 64 bit. My laptop has Optane memory built in. Is the Optane technology causing this? When I run Firefox I have no issues at all - even if Thunderbird does.

As you can imagine this is frustrating when I get to work and I have to answer a lot of emails. Would you guys walk me through possible solutions?

I am experiencing a problem using Thunderbird 91.10.0 when attempting to log-in to my ISP's POP3 mail server. The problem does not occur all of the time, however, once it occurs it persists for days.

The ISP's POP3 mail server uses SSL/TLS with Normal Password Authentication on port 995. I never permit Thunderbird to "rememeber " the password for this account.

The issue is that after entering a valid password in the "Enter your Password" pop-up dialog box and subsequently receiving no error messages, no e-mails are fetched. When using a web browser interface to the same POP3 server it can be seen that quite a few e-mails are present.

As an interesting tidibt, it was discovered that entering an incorrect/invalid password in the "Enter your Password" pop-up dilog box produces the same incorrect result. For this interaction I would have expected the "Sending of username did not succeed. Mail server responded: authentication failed: LOGIN failed" pop-up. However, this does not occur.

So, my ISP and I would like to know if there is some facility within Thunderbird to trace the request and response interactions between Thunderbird and the POP3 server. If so, how do I enable it and see the corresponding information? At this point we (me and the ISP) do not understand what's going on leading to the incorrect and unexpected behavior.

As another tidbit of information, things work correctly when running Thunderbird 60.5.1 interacting with the same ISP. Even a very old version (45.7.0) of Thunderbird works fine with the same ISP (all connections settings are the same).

This is all very strange!

When I try to send an e-mail I get a message that says that the client host rejected it and tells me to enable SSL in my client. This just began today (June 30). However my Thunderbird settings indicate that my connection security is SSL/TLS. What more do I need to do to enable SSL and be able again to send e-mails? My e-mail provider is frontier.com

I just updated to 102 and lost calendar. I tried instructions from your help page. Got as far as "extensions.installedDistroAddon.{e2fda1a4-762b-4020-b5ad-a41df1933103}". What I see is that boldface in a box with True further to the right and then a toggle and delete icon. When I right click I only get a box that says copy, paste or select all, with select all being the only option available. I tried toggling to false and then continuing. When I go to the add on manager and select extensions, there are none listed. I tried restarting Thunderbird at that point, but the calendar is still not showing my info. Help!

Yes, I have restarted my computer to make sure Win-10 wasn't killing something. Every other app seems to work normally.

The message remains: " 'The STAT command did not succeed. Error getting message number and sizes. Mail server Imap.gmail.com responded: Username and password not accepted."' Now what ? Updated today to Thunderbird V102 - After update Tbird would not retrieve email, would not remember passwords. Works OK in Safe Mode. Have uninstalled or disabled all add ons permanently. Still only works in safe mode. View saved passwords they are all there in safe mode but do not appear in normal mode. I have tried all the methods for Tbird not saving passwords.

I keep starting in safe mode as it is the only way I can use Thunderbird after update to 102. I have multiple accounts and only use POP.

Maybe next update will fix it. Thanks

As mentioned in title I cannot use the calendar function at all. Same with tasks function:

  • I can open the calendar tab, but that's it.
  • There is no calendar on the calendar list, and the 'plus'-icon to add a new calendar is greyed out.
  • There are buttons to change the views (week, day etc) but these also are greyed out.
  • Same issue with tasks: I can open the tab, but cannot add any tasks

It all worked with older versions of TB. I had several calendars in place, no problem. But after some upgrade everything is gone. The calendars, originally set up on TB, are still there, but only accessible on the g-account...

Version: TB 91.11. Add-ons: Provider for google calendar

Any idea? I really want to use TB calendar function instead. If I could at least only set up a new calendar, that would be very helpful. Thx a lot in Advance!

Recently tried upgrading from 91.x.x -> 102.x.x. Everything seems to go fine, with one critical show-stopping problem -- any attempt to connect to outlook.office365.com fails. Completely.

Under 91.x.x, I use POP as server type, server name is outlook.office365/com, SSL/TLS, and OAuth2 for connection and authentication security, respectively. Set up this way, port defaults to 995. Works *perfectly* under 91.x.x.

But, using the *exact* same setting under TBird 102, absolutely refuses to connect. At all.

Any suggestions as to what to look for?

I use Mac 10.15.7. I want to upgrade Thunderbird from 78.14.0 to 91.11.0. I tried upgrading in the fall and had a lot of problems with address books, but I want to try again. I have a lot of address books. In case I have to re-import the contacts to the individual address books, what is the best way to export each address book from 78.14 so that 91.11 will accept it when I import it back in? The options are comma sep, tab delim, vcard, and ldif. Thank you.

Two issues which started at the same time we started using Thunderbird Version 102.0: a) I and my wife are both losing messages. The body of the message is completely empty although the email provider's website still has the complete message. b) We both use the "fetch headers only" option but Thunderbird Version 102.0 ignores this option and downloads the entire message. When the e-mails are downloaded, a filter is applied and the e-mail is placed in a folder. After exiting and restarting Thunderbird, the last emails are downloaded again and the filter is no longer used. So I have two identical emails. One in the folder and second in the Inbox. I have it set so that emails are not deleted on the server. This described problem only happens 1 time. If I delete the second identical downloaded e-mail, the next identical one will no longer be downloaded. Previous versions did not do this. I didn't change any settings.
