Suddenly getting must issue a STARTLS command first when sending emai to gmail.com account.

It does not happen on two other gmail accounts.

I removed and added the imap gmail account … still happens.

It works fine on inbound … only problematic on outbound email.

When change the imap setting to STARTTLS, inbound won't work.

Don't see any setting for outbound only setting.

In another question I received an answer to how to revert from beta to current version.

I realized I had another question somewhat related. When a problem occurs in beta, I know crash reports go in. Or are they going somewhere else?

I also know a report can be filed on bugzilla. I’ve done that and Felt like a spectator while everybody else fixed the problem.

Ought a person using beta not use this venue for such things?

Aggravations are fairly short lived with beta, I don’t mind if I am being helpful.

If I misunderstand and beta version is for “bug busters then I’m in wrong place.

And I need to revert.

My dad's email passwords opened his account until August 2021. He had passed away 3/23/2021. I had been operating all of his accounts when he became unable to, and I printed out all of his various passwords so I wasn't having to ask each time. I have enough of my own passwords to deal with. I normally wouldn't need to look at his emails, but some of our linked accounts are attached to his email address. Property tax, electric account, etcetera. So to reset some of the linked account passwords the emails go straight to his T-bird email. I'm tired of hearing the, "For security reasons, we can't assist you." from the various services. So after reading the different answers on how to do this I'm still stuck. Dad never used Firefox on the computer I got for him so I'm stuck. If I install Firefox on his computer I still need his password to change the password. Help.

I have 3 email accounts two of the email accounts keep using the same user name in the SMTP Server settings. I have to keep changing it in order to send or receive emails. If I dont I get this window error which is attached or below.

It can take a while for a filter to finish, but sometimes I can't tell whether a filter is still runnning? 2) If I start running a filter and then Run a second (or third, fourth, etc.) filter before the first one is complete, will the subsequent filters be run in order? Does running a second filter cancel the execution of previous filter(s) that might still be executing?

AFter the most recent update (102.2.1), emails no longer show in my collapsed Inbox. I have to expand it and click on each individual email in order to see messages. Local folders display properly. This seems to have been the second update in a very short time. In the previous one, the list of emails displayed but the emails did not show up on the right side when clicked on.

I have been using Thunderbird with multiple POP accounts for about 15 years with few problems.

Since upgrading to the latest version, with was about a week ago, emails are downloaded again and again, for as long as they remain on the server, which is for most accounts 7 days.

I can see the emails are marked as read on the server (my host is X-10 Infinity and been using them for 4 years), but every time Thunderbird connects to the server, it downloads all the messages again.

My mailboxes are filling up with duplicate messages, sometimes 10+ copies of each one. I haven't changed any settings on the server or in Thunderbird, so not sure what is causing this.

If I click to Get Messages manually, Thunderbird only downloads 1 or 2 messages, if anything. But for some reason when the scheduled connect runs (for example: every 30 minutes) it seems to pull down all messages in the POP mailbox again and again.

Is there anything I can set or change to fix this please, or is this a bug you are working on?

I really don't want to change so I download messages from the server and delete them immediately rather than in 7 days as this allows me to have a backup in case my computer needs to have a re-install.

Thanks for any help. I'm sure I'm not alone with this problem.

Starting about Oct 1, thunderbird suddenly quit logging onto my godaddy email server. I keep getting the following error message " Login to server outlook.office365.com with username relder@k2fast.com failed." It also asks to either retry or use a new password. Neither works. I use a Dell Latitude 3460 lap top, about 6 years old. I keep all the updates up to date.

I have been using TB to log onto this same server for many years with no problems.  I contacted godaddy to check my account and all is up to date.  I can go to the godaddy web site and log into my account using my password and all is well.

I deleted my old TB and then down loaded the newest version and still have the same problem.

No idea where to go next. Anybody have any ideas?

Using Thunderbird 102.4.1 - have not upgraded for a few days and program was working fine. Switched on today and inbox was rebuilt - and then all the messages are there but the From / To / CC fields are all blank on the message pane. When I reply to a message all the information is available. The From/To/CC is also visible on the summary pane. Same issue on all messages in every folder. Tried to restart in troubleshooting mode with addons disabled but made no difference. I have Header Tools Lite addon - disabled that but does not fix the issue. On Windows 11 and everything was working fine until this morning.

I want to set a message filter with the following conditions:

to > name@mycompany.com body contains > 'money' OR 'profit' (etc)

The reason is that the body text frequently changes so I need to identify it by having one of several possible terms that is often found in the body of the text. That is, in one message it may include the word 'money', in the next message it may say 'profit'

to contains 'name@mycompany.com' AND body contains ('money' OR 'profit')

Currently, I can only choose to include 'any one of the conditions' or 'all of the conditions' This is not sufficient because I need to check for the 'to condition' AND at least one of the body conditions


I tried using OR, || for the additional conditions and it does not work

I'm on TB 104.2.1 (64-bit), using Windows 11. I'm pretty good at letting it update within a day or two of the new version notification. I'm using IMAP.

I use my Trash folder as a place to hold received emails I think I'm done with until I can take some time to do some email management. The Delete key is ever-so-convenient. I work on big projects, so sometimes it takes me a few months before I can clean things up. I've read answers that say, basically, "If you put your emails in Trash, you should expect to lose them." And yet, I've been working this way since forever, since before Thunderbird.

In the past, my Trash has always been a safe place to keep emails for a few months. I would like to continue to depend on it. I'm not sure when I switched from Outlook Express to TB, but both OE and TB have pretty much left my Trash alone for the last 20 years. But in the past 6 months, I keep discovering that mail I've put into Trash has disappeared before I get a chance to archive it. Right now, my Trash folder has emails going back to 10/20 (about 12 days' worth). My archive folder has emails up to the end of July, so I just lost a lot of knowledge.

So I googled the problem. I found three solutions:

1) Some people have their email set to delete immediately. I don't. I have "Settings > Server settings > When I delete a message" set to "Move it to this folder: Trash".

2) Some people have "To recover disk space, old messages can be permanently deleted . . ." set to something other than "Don't delete any messages". I have it set to "Don't delete any messages".

3) Some people have servers that clear out their Trash folder. I don't. I have my own account on Bluehost. My email settings on Bluehost don't have any kind of date-based expiration option. There is an option for a storage-based limit, but I have it set for Unlimited. If Bluehost is emptying my Trash, this is something new, and they're being really sneaky about it.
