I have an issue trying to configure a secondary email account, for a non-profit I do some work for. It was ok in the past, though I recall was tricky to set up on TB a couple of years ago. But now it has ceased to function after I migrated TB profile (successfully apart from this issue) no matter what I try. I’d be grateful for any suggestions. As is the case with many non-profits, there’s little tech support, but others can use the email account ok. I think it may be a TB issue as I have been able to set up the account ok with MS new Windows Outlook app (lame, but better than Mail…low bar). I’d rather have this account on my TB client along with the others I use. And the issue is replicated on two of my PCs. TB account set up reports “can’t detect settings from host server”. I found a support thread link text, which says “The failure to detect settings is rather common where hosted domains are concerned. Mostly because everything is done to a price and most of the things around encryption are done in a halfhearted manner. As is the server setups for mail. However by faithfully copying the settings from the provider as to domains server name and ports it should work.” So I did manual configuration – copied the settings from the successful Outlook set up, but no dice – all I get is server time out message. Settings are: IMAP server: mail.XXXX.org.uk Port 993 Security SSL/TLS [earlier working settings were STARTTLS port 143] SMTP server: mail.XXXX.org.uk Port 465 Security SSL/TLS [[earlier working settings were STARTTLS port 587] And using Normal Password for both; I tried Autodetect too but no good. I’ve see a suggestion that turning off the firewall (Norton) might work, but I’m reluctant to do that and doesn’t seem to make sense that would cause the issue. I found another suggestion that apparently works for some people - leaving password blank on setup. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1399690. Good morning Windows 10, TB 115.11.0 32 bit. Multiple email accounts, some gmail, others like sfr, lol and free. All accounts use POP. All working before weekend, shut down the PC. Monday morning, opened Windows, all seems there except TB which has a screen with an Account Setup tab inviting me to set up an existing email address. Close that tab and the attached screen image appears, open tabs blank, no accounts pane on the left, no emails, no local folders. Nuffin. Restart TB and Windows, twice, still Nuffin. Look in Profiles, yes, under Mail all profiles appear to be present and the correct size. Going to gmail’s on line email system shews account open and receiving email normally. I had a problem a month ago after a TB update when all accounts were present but no emails were displayed. I changed the password to 0auth and recovered my emails. That took three days to resolve and I lost a business client through the delay in responding. Today I must file several court documents or I shall be in deep poo. Any suggestions how to recover the left hand accounts pane and see the accounts and folders will earn my undying gratitude.

Win 10. Multiple email accounts, some gmail plus others. I had TB 115 something (it's uninstalled so not available to see). I run Firefox without issues. TB went completely haywire, all email accounts disappeared, nothing worked (second time this year) but recovering was proving too difficult and I'd already spent a whole day on it. I decided to uninstall and install a fresh copy. First I copied the single profile to an external drive. Then I uninstalled TB. Then I ran Ccleaner to tidy up the remaining TB cache and other remnants, also cleaned the registry. I downloaded a new copy from Mozilla's site, ran the install file, The install dialog box offers the same install location as the previous location, same user. Upon clicking install, the dialog box disappears and nothing happens. I've tried this more than ten times now, including fresh downloads from Mozilla. The dialog box offers an alternative user as Administrator but that won't work because I don't actually have the administrator account set up with a password, and TB demands the password. I do not want to open a new user account just for TB. Any suggestions for working round this will be gratefully received.

I have six identities / accounts ie. NAME1@cox.net, NAME2@cox.net etc.

In the Account Settings window for NAME1, at the bottom, is "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" for which I use "smtp.mail.yahoo.com (Default)". That's the same on all the identity Account Settings btw.

To the right of that is an "Edit SMTP server..." button which opens a small window. At the bottom of that is an entry for "User Name". For which I enter "NAME1@cox.net".

At first this works fine to send mail from the identity NAME1@cox.net

HOWEVER, when I use the same method to "Edit SMTP server" for NAME2.cox.net... it CHANGES the NAME1 settings made above! So sending mail under that identity no longer works.

Overall, this means that only the last identity that I configure can send mail, because its outgoing SMTP credentials are being automatically stuffed into all the other identities, which prevents them from communicating with Yahoo.

On the surface this looks like a bad bug in TBird but, as usual, I can't find anyone that has the same problem. Those are symptoms of me missing something.

Any ideas of what could be wrong?

The hyperlinks are lost. I must paste the hyperlinked text with the URLs. How do I do this? All searches are irrelevant. I know how to insert URL into new text but that is not the issue. My text to be pasted already has many hyperlinks in the text and I do not want to laboriousness do them all again. When I paste in a paragraph of text that already has several hyperlinks I want that ALL to paste in. How to I do this?

My email for my domain (Gailfisher@Resourcesforchange.com) hosted by GoDaddy. Has been working correctly for years, but now when trying to send from TB, I get a message to enter password that does not work (it does work on my webhost's platform). Using Windows 10, TB version 115.11.0. BTW, I have another email via AOL that is working just fine on TB. I tried Safe mode -no go I tried following GoDaddy's instructions for IMAP but also did not work. FYI The GoDaddy help desk said: "Please match the server settings with the below server settings. Username Your email address Password Your email account's password Incoming servermail.[your domain name] Incoming ports IMAP - 143 POP - 110 Outgoing servermail.[your domain name] SMTP (outgoing) ports25 (587 or 80 might also work) IMAP use port 143" I tried setting up a new account in TB using email adddress and a new username, but that created the same problem. I have Thunderbird installed on my laptop running Fedora 40 with Gnome on Wayland. I have two monitors with different resolutions.

The laptop monitor has a resolution of 1920x1080 whereas the external monitor has a resolution of 1360x768.

Thunderbird display fine on the main monitor, but when I move it to the external display, everything becomes huge and unusable.

I don't want to scale things in such a way that I have the opposite problem, that is things are way too small on the laptop monitor. Is there a way to have Thunderbird scale properly on the external monitor to have it maintain the right proportions on both monitors?

I permanently deleted all messages in a folder (call it "Unwanted"), then moved Unwanted to Trash, then deleted it permanently. It appeared to be gone. However the next time I opened Thunderbird, Unwanted was back. I tried this several times with the same result. I tried renaming it to "DeleteMe" but then I got the message "The folder could not be renamed. Perhaps the folder is being reparsed, or the new name is not a valid folder name."

Once again, I "permanently" deleted Unwanted and closed Thunderbird. Using a file manager, I found and deleted all relevant folders and files matching "Trash.*" and "Unwanted*.*" and rebooted the computer. However when I opened Thunderbird, an empty "Trash" folder was regenerated as expected, but the "Unwanted" folder was back.

How can I get rid of Unwanted? Thanks!

Hello,

I am trying to sign in to my Yahoo email account in Thunderbird. I enter my email address, and my password (double checking it's correct), then I click Continue, then it finds a POP3 configuration for my email address. Then I click Done, and it stays stuck on "Checking Password", until ultimately it tells me "Unable to log in at server. Probably wrong configuration, username, or password."

Aside from this, I would like to store all my emails on the server (using IMAP?) and not on my computer using POP3. So when I go to configure IMAP manually and try to type in the values on this page ( https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN4075.html ) (although the fields don't exactly match), I type everything in and the "Done" button is greyed out so I can't even continue.

I found one other topic but they got farther than I did and they got to the Yahoo sign in screen which I did not, and they are using OAuth2 which I don't think I am, but I'm not sure.

Does anyone know how I can fix this and set up my Yahoo account with Thunderbird?

I installed Thunderbird and eventually got it working. I download with IMAP and upload with SMTP. TB did a great job downloading gobs of email from Gmail and converting the labels into folders. In a couple cases, it created folders, but none of the emails with that label were downloaded into the folder. FOr example, there is a folder 'PE' and a subfolder " CD Ads'. Emails are present in both. However, in TB, 'PE' is lighter grey and italicized and empty.

The folder structure is not an exact match to the label structure. For example, in the labels, I have an 'Employment' label with 5 employers underneath it. None of the employers made it into TB.

I have a few other oddities too, but lets start with these. I did end up using a normal password to access the account, as 0Auth2 would not cooperate.

Got a new computer. Loaded Thunderbird and set up. Received a few emails. Then realized need to move Profile from old computer. Forwarded the few emails I got to another rarely used email account. Thought uninstalled (?) Thunderbird from new computer. Transferred Profile and ini to new computer. Thunderbird started on its own (?) but with about a month older version of my local files, and older emails. Mozilla Thunderbird did not appear in Windows start directory. Loaded Thunderbird again on new computer, and got back in the Windows start directory. Eventually got all my old emails were sent to me automatically in the (correct) Inbox, and I retrieved the few emails I forwarded to my other rarely used email account. Long story short, I got everything straightened out, but with one big exception. A second Inbox, the one that now receives my email, is now in my Drafts folder. How do I get my correct Inbox to receive my mail instead of the second Inbox in the Drafts folder? Thank you in advance to whomever has the expertise to straighten this out.

I copied the profile-folder as described online, but they didn't appear.

Meanwhile i used an diffrent Mail-Acc and TB starte to sync and delete all older Mails, was wasn't wanted.

So i have an empty Mail-Acc and couldn't migrate my old Mails.

I'm trying to see whether Thunderbird may work for me.

Situation: I've been using a 2012 mac mini, now upgrading to a M1 mac mini.

I have used the mac's "MAIL" program for over a decade. Some of its folders are pretty large.

For reasons not important here, I can't use the apple "migration assistant", and have tried to migrate the folders to the now-current Mail program... and they utterly fail.

Thus, since I liked the look of Thunderbird, I figured I'd see if IT could import the mailboxes. Short answer, not well enough.

I've read up on it, tried various ways, added the import/export extention; of course the program will NOT import mailboxes directly from mac Mail despite claiming to... a known flaw... but it will also not import the MBOX files and then use them.

It does seem to import the whole file, in that if I check the resources for thunderbird in the user file, I see that one test mailbox has indeed kept the full 2.15gb capacity... but rather than showing the roughly 37,000 emails in that file, it only shows about 6,000. I've tried it multiple times, and have gotten different file totals between 5100 and 6300 total.

Any workaround, or is Thunderbird not for me?

I can't get smtp to work with multiple yahoo accounts. When I get the account settings window, it shows the correct smtp server for yahoo. (smtp.mail.yahoo.com) but when I click on the edit SMTP button, there is a section called "Security and Authentication" section with 3 lines

     Connection Security:             [SSL/TLS]
     Authentication Method :        [0AUTH2]
     User Name:                             [*****1@cox.net]  (My accounts were transferred from COX to Yahoo)

If I edit the SMTP on any of my cox accounts, it changes them all to the same user name. If I want to send mail from any cox account, I have to go to account settings first and edit the smtp and put in the correct account. This is very tedious.

I have noticed that my gmail accounts do the same thing, but gmail doesn't care. Here is the error I get when sending mail before going to account settings first to change the account.

Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: Request failed; Mailbox unavailable. Please verify that your email address is correct in your account settings and try again.
