How can I change an IMAP server on an existing T-bird account after T-bird deleted the saved password and IMAP server for that account? I tried to change the IMAP server address for an existing T-bird account, but T-bird and/or my ISP deleted the saved password and IMAP server entry for that account, so T-bird cannot get incoming E-mails. I would like to add an/the IMAP server back to the account without deleting the account, adding all of its settings again, and waiting 6 hours for T-bird to re-download all of the most recent 10,000 messages in the Inbox and all of the 15,000 messages in other folders again. The SMTP server and its saved password are still in the Saved Passwords table.

Thunderbird suddenly stopped working properly today, 15 September 2026. Webmail for the same email account is working normally: I can both send and receive messages. However, Thunderbird is having problems with both incoming and outgoing mail. • Thunderbird connects to the IMAP server, sometimes very slowly, but then does not retrieve new messages. • Sending a message from Thunderbird fails because it cannot connect to the outgoing SMTP server. • Thunderbird's own update also fails. This has never happened to me before. • I have restarted Thunderbird and also restarted the Mac, but the problem remains. • I have not changed any Thunderbird account settings. The fact that webmail is working normally makes me wonder whether this is a Thunderbird problem rather than a problem with the email service. Has there been a known Thunderbird problem affecting connections to mail servers or the Thunderbird updater, and could these problems be related

Inbound emails are going to Trash instead of Inbox.

No changes have been made. How can I check settings to find a solution? I see nothing related to this issue. Thanks for any help.

Hi, I have a problem with hundreds of Casino type emails filling up my spam folder so I asked AI for help. AI suggested I change my mail handeling from Standard to Strict. Ever since then it will not stay on Standard, it keeps reverting to Strict every time I try to revert it back, therefore all my wanted emails go straight to Spam. I need to check through heaps of Casino emails and take out my wanted emails which is so annoying!! How can I change it back so as it stays changed? I will not ask AI for help ever again, it was working fine until I changed it. Ugh.

I am not sure how to find out what version Thunderbird is, how do I find out please. It should be up to date as I have everything set on automatic up date.

Having established a new Outlook account I cannot sign into it properly with Thunderbird - I get authentication failures each time despite all settings apparently being correct, IMAP enabled in the web browser view of the outlook account and so on. Oauth2 set and all server settings good. I have been over and over things. Tried various suggestions of the web to no avail.

I have tried unsuccessfully with three separate machines - two Microsoft 11 laptops and an iMac. All fail.

I can access the account and send/receive emails from a web browser and I have got it working okay with an iPhone, an Android tablet and a Microsoft email client - but not with Thunderbird. I even get a browser popup on the iMac when I open Thunderbird asking if I am trying to sign in - I say yes and it says I am all signed in - but the email doesn't authenticate. I have passcodes all set up etc.

A separate Hotmail account does work with the same Thunderbird client and has the same server settings (apart from the username obviously).

I am at a loss how to resolve this other than move to a different email application.

Any ideas?

Hello, I use the 32-bit portable 153;2 version of Thunderbird. But now when I label a message according to my list of labels by color, the selected message returns to its original color. Labeling no longer works, even though old messages retain their colors well. Thank you for your response. Ph. Costes

In checking my email, I clicked on one that was from "Progressive" which is a valid correspondent but upon opening, it was from United Airlines, which is also a valid correspondent for me. I closed out Thunderbird and reopened but this did not resolve the issue. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

I use Windows 11 Pro on a desktop computer. I use Firefox (which is up to date) and Thunderbird as my email client (which is up to date). I use Zone Alarm Extreme Security as my Firewall and Anti Virus

Recently it has become a nightmare sending and receiving emails to my markhowes@btinternet.com email address. Sometimes the emails (which I know are on the bt server) don't arrive but I don't get an error message. Then later in the day I might receive loads of emails at once.

Sending emails is even more of a problem. They simply don't go. Sometimes I get a time out message, sometimes I get an incorrect password message.

Within Thunderbird there is an option to check connection to both the outgoing and incoming bt servers. Usually (but not always) connection shows as "successful".

This has been going on for a couple of months - maybe it's a coincidence but it seems to start up after a Windows automated update and then things settle down again (I think) until the next Windows monthly update.

I'm not all that computer literate so please don't suggest messing around with the Registry or other very technical solutions but if anyone can help me solve this maddening problem I would be really grateful.

I can send and receive emails on my Android phone and directly on the bt email site via my Firefox browser.

I cannot connect Thunderbird to a primary outlook.com account. I can connect to an outlook.com alias account. I have confirmed this on two Windows 10 machines. I can connect to the primary outlook.com account from an iphone and an ipad. Is Thunderbird broken?

In the last month or 2, when I delete an email it does not show in the trash folder. I can wait from 5 minutes to even the next time I reboot my puter to finally see it it trash. Sometimes it sends it to the all mail or important folder instead of trash. And if I delete from there, it still takes tons of time to end up in the trash folder...if it even gets there. This seems to be getting worse by the day. I have clicked repair folder, no change, I have cleared Thunderbird's cache, no change. It's also now taking way too much time to load an email that contains a picture. This happens with at least 3 of these gmails. I'm at a loss here and extremely frustrated and about to change these gmails from imap to pop. win10 and TB is up to date. But it doesn't compact folders as much as it used to either. Any help appreciated

when trying to restore/add a gmail account, all my account settings disappeared. Trying again to restore/add a gmail account, an error is showing 'Incoming server already exists' and I cannot connect.

I have several Yahoo accounts set up in Thunderbird, but I get this frequent (several times a day) error notification from just one:

"The current operation on 'Inbox' did not succeed. The mail server for account Yahoo (xxxxxxx) responded: p."

I'm sure this is a truncation of the complete error message. How can I see the complete message?

There seems to be no consequence of the "error" - everything appears to work as normal. It's just annoying.

I used to be able to set message filters to play a sound of my choosing after a message was filtered into a folder (a chime so i know when mail from a client arrives). For a while it was not an option, so I used various extensions that eventually were no longer supported (ToneQuilla, Mailbox Alert, FiltaQuilla, Soundmail). I suspect that the last one may have corrupted my Thunderbird and caused my recent issues, so I removed it (and now I have no extensions installed). Sound Mail is the only extension I can find that plays a sound for filtered mail only.

Meanwhile, the "Play Sound" option has appeared again in v155.0.1, but with no choice of sound file, and nothing plays. It's not a sound issue; other sounds play in other programs, and the normal new mail sound plays when I enable it (but I don't want sound notifications for all mail, just client mail).

Any solutions?

I’m asking for an update: regarding the total message count, folders with no messages now show a dash, which is really confusing. Could this be fixed so that a dash doesn't appear when there are 0 messages? Before the update, it wasn't like that—it used to show the message count, and there was no dash when there were no messages.

I have been asking for this for at least 20 versions now: the backup and restore function—which is supposed to work when setting up a fresh Windows 11 installation, for example—fails to carry over certain settings. Specifically, things like the "Participants," "Date," and "Name" columns, the sort arrows (up/down), and other menu column settings aren't restored correctly. View settings—such as grouping vs. non-grouping or hidden columns—are also lost; after restoring, you have to manually set up all the columns and date ordering again yourself.

Problem 3

When I type a name into the address book and it appears, I have to click next to the name. However, if I click straight into the text field to start writing and then try to send something, a different contact from the address book might appear instead. This is a bug. For example, I typed in "Mom," but instead of clicking next to the name, I clicked into the text field, and my boss ended up receiving the email—it was embarrassing. Could there be a setting so that when an address book name appears and you jump straight to the text field, that name stays selected instead of switching to a different address book entry?

My email was working then suddenly stopped. I have been connected to AT&T (Currently and Yahoo). I finally got it touch with AT&T mail. They claim that they no longer support or connect with Thunderbird.

Does anyone know if this is this correct?

When I open Thunderbird it is sending my emails directly to the deleted folder. I have tried all-sorts and cannot find an answer. I transferred Thunderbird to my new PC and all was working okay for a few weeks then all of a sudden there were emails missing from my inboxes and I found them in the deleted folder. I am 76 years old and need an easy step by step solution please ..... John
