Strange windows when starting Thunderbird

A few weeks ago, I really struggled to install my profile on my laptop and I eventually deleted Thunderbird, reinstalled it and then managed to migrate my profile and everything worked fine

But today, I needed to use my laptop and when I try to launch Thunderbird, i get these strange popup windows (see screenshots)

If i then click on Thunderbird in the task bar and chose another command like "write an email ", the contents of the pop up window changes slightly but Thunderbird remains unusable as the normal windows do not appear

Can anybody help please?

Incoming mail not downloading properly.

After years of flawless use, Thunderbird has gotten cranky. Now when I click to open a new email in the in-box, this message pops up instead of the document:

"Not Downloaded. "Only the headers for this message were downloaded from the mail server. "Download the rest of the message."

Supposedly I can download the rest of the message with a click. But most of the time that's not working either. Click . . . nothing happens, but the "trouble" message stays in place. Click again and again and the response is the same: failure to open the email.

Sometimes I'll return to the in-box to try again and find that the header for a single email has multiplied several times. Usually the second or third duplicate will finally open.

If anyone has any suggestions on how to restore this function to normalcy, so a new email in the in-box opens with just one click, I'd be more than happy to hear it!

I am not sure when this started, but when I start up Thunderbird I have 2-3 minutes of 100% disk activity BUT only when there is new email... It even takes long enough for the connection to the POP server to time out. My whole system becomes unresponsive/unusable until this is finished.

CPU activity is minimal during this time, but with iotop i see Thunderbird taking up to 99.99 of io... See screenshot. I moved the old profile folder out of the way and created a fresh one, so that's not it. I feel it might be Thunderbird indexing the email that i have stored locally, but there is no noticeable difference between my old profile of 1.2GB and the current almost empty one?

I am on Ubuntu Mate 18.04.5 64bit and using Thunderbird 78.9.1 64bit.

I hope someone has a fix for this...

Hello everyone,

I am a suscriber of an association newsletter and sometimes they ask us to write someone an e-mail. They have already written it, so there is just a button/link in the newsletter to click, and the pre-filled mail window opens and we just have to send it.

But since a few months now I can't open those links. And I don't know why. When I try, a new tab opens but it loads indefinitely. Here are some screens of what I see (I'm French, so my Thunderbird is set to my language).

I stay available for further infos if needed. Thank you.

I used to have lots of messages in my Trash. I sometimes go back and look for messages for information that I forgot and now there are only ones for the last week. Is there a setting to change that?

Also I had lots of recurring tasks and they have disappeared. What happened there? Can I retrieve those now?

I used the same profile on the same computer dual booting between Windows10 and Linux Mint. My mail was stored on the Windows drive. I normally live in Linux. The other day, while on Windows, I let ThunderBird update. When back on Linux, I could not open TBird as the update forced a separation of profiles. I created an account on Linux and I am receiving new mail while on Linux. BUT... my old mail is stuck on Windows. To read that, I have to reboot to Windows. I made a tar ball of my Windows profile folder and copied it to ~/Thunderbird, and after extracting, named the folder per the profile name created on Linux (yxe2p9be.LinuxProfile). I still can not read my email.

Please. How do I copy my historical TBird email from Windows to Linux.

Just a side note to Thunderbird folks. Thank you for what you do. I know it it mostly volunteer. I appreciate the quality and the fact it is free. But (you knew there would be a but) you could have provided for this case. You could have provided an import function to allow one to import between forced split profiles. Not just put up a message that says it no longer is supported. You broke my Thunderbird!

downloading large attachments

I receive letters in Attachment wav files about 10-15 mb. If I click the Save button (lower right corner of the screen), the file is created, but its size is 0. and this zero file is not deleted by the system - "busy with another application". I tried different mailboxes, different letters with different files. 70% of the time - I get 0mb on disk(

If I click twice on an attachment, a dialog box is displayed. I specify Save File - then 100% always downloads an attachment with a normal size. But this method is not very convenient.

Can this be corrected?

Is the error caused by with my Thunderbird Ver 78.9.1 or my Internet Service Provider. The Error appeared April 10th after I update to version 78.9.1. I'm using Win 10 with all update installed.

My email address may have been in the recently hacked Facebook data.

"An error occurred while sending mail: The mail server sent an incorrect greeting: ob2-410.midco.net cmsmtp VkUYlKPKGv3eU 184.83.77.45 listed on Spamhaus XBL. Please see http://www.spamhaus.org/xbl for more information. ESMTP server not available"

I'm hoping someone might be able to please help with a quick enquiry?

I have had no luck contacting Thunderbird and have been referred to this support forum. I was shocked to find that they don't appear to have a direct customer support address.

My service has multiple emails within thunderbird - each of them ending @timemusictherapy.co.uk. Over the last year, we created a new email for our charity strand - charity@timemusictherapy.co.uk. We have noticed over the last couple of months, that Thunderbird has wiped all emails from our inbox for this address. There seems to be no way to retrieve them and no pattern to how or why they were deleted. This has happened twice, with all emails being deleted.

There will be lots of important emails coming to this address and it is imperative that we retain them. Does anyone have experience of this problem? And how we could resolve and retrieve the emails?

Setup: Today I was editing the comment in an existing task and was interrupted by a reminder. I chose the wrong choice (I discarded my changes)

After that mistake I started to CTRL+S my changes frequently.

The issue: This task has a custom Category

After I left the editing process I noticed the Category column entry for it in the CTRL+Shift+D task listing view had many copies of the custom Category I'd created for it.

I reopened the task to edit and de-selected the custom category, CTRL+S, and they all went away. I RE-selected the custom category, CTRL+S, and it reappeared one single time. I clicked [Save and Close] and the custom category now appears twice. Along the way I noticed it duplicates the custom category in the Tasks display for every time I CTRL+S while I'm editing the description.

I successfully eliminated the custom category > saved > closed task > reopened task > recreated custom label ... the duplication behavior continued.

I think this is enough information to recreate the behavior. If not, let me know - TIA

After the April 11 update, I can no longer access my Roadrunner email. Nor will Thunderbird allow me to access the emails I had downloaded to my PC. Is there a way to uninstall the update? This is the first problem I've had in over 12 years.

multiple copies of saved messages

My copy of Tbird creates multiple entries in all of the folders. The worst is sent mail where the first duplicate is a 2020/08 message and the oldest 2013/07 has 32 copies. Other folders aren't as bad but still have up to 6 copies of the oldest messages. Is there some way to re-index these tables? I'm concerned that one day it will just corrupt completely and I'll lose it all.

Добрый день. Необходима помочь в решении вопроса о переносе правил фильтрации сообщений с одного ПК на другой. Проблема вся в том, что правила создавались для учетной записи, а не для локальных папок. И следовательно по пути %appdata%\Thunderbird\Profiles\ в файле msgFilterRules.dat нет созданных правил. И при его копировании на другой ПК правила не переносятся... Прикрепил два скриншота с правилами на учетке и на локальных папках. Можно ли как-то перенести правила фильтрации с учетки?

I use Thunderbird for email. I connect to Verizon and get routed through AOL mail - I updated my password in AOL and now I can't seem to find ANY passwords when I check my security. And every time I try to re-enter the new password in Thunderbird, it isn't accepted. How can I correct this?
