I am migrating a Windows 7 PC to Linux Mint.

Originally the PC had Seamonkey, and reading about the migration I decided it is best to switch to Thunderbird. Migration from Seamonkey to Thunderbird worked fine on Windows 7.

I followed the instructions to migrate from Windows 7 to Linux on this thread https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1277613 but it does not appear to work.

I have done the following: 1. I renamed all files and folders under .thunderbird folder in Linux with -old so that I can recover them in case they are needed 2. Copied all files and folders including the ini files from Thunderbird profile in Windows to .thunderbird in Linux Mint 3. Copied all files from Profile folder into .thunderbird folder so profile folder is empty 4. I removed pkcs11.txt from the profile folder 5. Started Thunderbird in Linux

However, what I get is a message "Need to create a new profile because this is an older version", and it creates a new profile but it is all empty. No accounts (I have 5 accounts), no emails, or passwords!

I have checked and both Windows and Linux Thunderbird installations are the latest available versions. Windows (78.7.1 - 32-bit) and Linux (68.10.0 64-bit). I know I have not converted 32-bit to 64-bit, but I am unsure if that is the cause and if it is, how to carry out the conversion (and on which machine).

I tried change setting and it it did not help. After the update, it was ok, but now after last update I have the same problem. Thunderbird sometimes delete all inbox in imap account (imap.wp.pl  ; ~5400 emails on account) and download everythink again. How to repair that?

Thunderbird has become dysfunctional, I think since the last update. I’ve been using Thunderbird for many years, with an Earthlink account, set to POP3 server. Currently, I am using it on my iMac with Mojave 10.14.6. The first symptom that I encountered was being unable to Send emails. Then, I discovered that I couldn’t download emails. Later, to my surprise, it downloaded the latest emails from Earthlink, but all of that email was still on the Earthlink server.

I changed the Earthlink password because I was afraid it was defaulting to IMAP, which I don’t want. But I haven't been able to enter the new password in Thunderbird. I can hardly do anything without getting the spinning ball, and the application freezing. I have to Force Quit to try again, but the same thing happens. Furthermore, I have discovered that the Earthlink account is duplicated under Account Settings. I have absolutely no clue how that happened!

Loading the program and selecting About Thunderbird brings up nothing, so I can’t tell you the version I am using. The Earthlink account is not my only account in Thunderbird. If I have to reinstall the application, would I have to set up all of those accounts all over again?

I have archived emails going back to 1998, when I used Netscape. Most under Local, but some in the Earthlink account that I was using for downloading emails. Yes, my Thunderbird library (libraries?) is/are backed up. But I’m afraid to delete things from within Thunderbird.

I just migrated my old Thunderbird 3.1 on an old Mac to Windows 10. Everything is good, but I can't find how to see my old Local Folders. I have years of business projects sorted on these folders. I've copied them to my new Profile (Mail>Local Folders) but I still don't see them. How do I get them to appear on my new Windows version?

Whenever I move an e-mail message in Thunderbird from my Inbox (which is IMAP) to a local folder, the Firefox Web browser immediately opens up with the next message from my Inbox loaded in it. I've been using Thunderbird and Firefox for many years, but this problem just started recently. (In case it helps: If I move an e-mail from the Inbox to another IMAP folder, there's no problem. It's only when I move it to a local folder.)

Well let me begin by saying I 'LOVE MOZILLA AND THUNDERBIRD!'! Next I need help. I am not the brightest star in the computer sky. A kind phrase would be "Computer Challenged Olde Pharte". I want to escape Snoopy g-mail/Google & all the others including Facebook. But I have FOUR gmail addresses 1. church groups & the like; 2. E-pals Jokes & Stories; 3. JUnk Mail - all the stores that want your e-dress; & 4. e-Bay. I have Charter.net as my ISP. So they are where I get my T-bird emails. HOW can I or CAN I??? Get rid of gmail (I use Duck Duck Go for search engine) ??? Bless you all for what you do Being altruistic in this day & age is NOT easy!

More Explanation: My internet is provided by Charter/Spectrum. When I look at Thunderbird, it is on my charter email address. I have 4 gmail email addresses & 1 gmail Facebook address. Is there some way I can get e-mail accounts without having to use gmail, or hotmail, or the other big boyz? I guess I am okay with having to pay my widow's mite to an email provider who does not use all my communications to sell & otherwise profit from them. But how do I do that if it is possible? The settings will only allow me to set it so that messages won't be automatically marked as read, or that they will be after a set amount of seconds. This applies even if I don't fully open the message. Is there a way to have the message be marked as read only if I fully open it, while still having it set so that the preview pane visible?

bold textWhen I finally installed the most recent Thunderbird update, to 78.7.0, it crashed and I lost everything, including specialized mail folders and settings.

Is it possible to go back to a date just before that crash, to retrieve and reinstall those folders and settings/prefs via Time Machine on my Mac desktop? It's certainly not the easiest way to do this, but I don't know how else to get all of that back.

Sometimes when I respond to an incoming email the sender does not receive my reply. I also tested cc'ing myself (to another Gmail email account I own), and the email was not delivered to that email address either.

However, if I create a BRAND NEW email entirely (from scratch) with EXACTLY the same subject line and body as the original (I copy and paste from the original email to the new one to ensure its exactly the same) and send that to the SAME person who sent it to me, they receive it every time.

I don't understand the following:

(1) Why sometimes when I respond to an email the sender does receive it, while other times not... Appears to be completely random.

(2) Why the brand new email I create with exactly the same subject line and body works every time when responding to the same sender.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Any assistance will be appreciated.

BRIEF SUMMARY:

TB = Thunderbird.

Tested + worked on Thunderbird : v68.12.1 , v78.7.1 (and one step earlier TB).

• Load "BrowseInTab" TB addon : TB > Tools > Addons > in "Find More Extensions" box, type: BrowseInTab click on [ + Add To Thunderbird ] button > "Add" > restart TB. • Also load "Open Tab" TB addon : TB > Tools > Addons > in "Find More Extensions" box, type: Open Tab click on [ + Add To Thunderbird ] button > "Add" > restart TB.


• Also load an Advertisement & Harmful Code/Script Blocking type of addon that can work inside TB , or else Harmful/abusive website codes will begin to abuse your computer, & increase electrical power consumption, & overheat/warm your computer, & abuse thunderbird, & waste your internet data limits, steal DATA ( theft of Privacy), etc, etc, etc: LOAD the "uBlock Origin" addon for Firefox, inside the Thunderbird . (as of this moment, it works). How to do that, is outlined in detail, inside the linked page's SOLUTION # 1 : https://stackoverflow.com/a/63286125/3553808 (please upvote my Q+A both there if its helpful/useful)


• now send a HTML-formatted email (not plain-text Email) , into any one of the email-address (or email account) that is already setup in your Thunderbird, in that email you must send an URL LINK, this link: https://www.hangouts.google.com/ . You can also type the full URL manually in a new email (before sending), then select that full URL text & press Ctrl+C (or Cmd+C) to copy into buffer memory > TB main menu > Insert > Link > paste the copied link by pressing Ctrl+V (or Cmd+V) > Ok . Send to yourself or into another email-address that is inside the same TB.


• Inside TB if you select option to allow all Cookie ( a tracking file with tracking codes ) , then TB begins to store all types of Cookies : Unnecessary & unsafe & tracking & monitoring & advertisements, etc related ALL TYPE OF COOKIES/codes ... • So such is not a safe, not secured, not Privacy-Right respecting practice, & not-recommended. • Some users lack knowledge on how to increase security/privacy , and Some (lazy+ignorant) users prefer convenience over extra steps which will be necessary to take, to increase security/privacy. • Your dog learns or you have to TRAIN it , when it need to bark, and when it does not need to bark, when outsider or unwanted comes close ... similarly you have to train your TB on what to stop & what to allow. • Goto TB (Thunderbird) "Preferences" (or "Options"/Settings ) > then find/goto "Privacy" > goto "Web Content" section. Thunderbird - Preferences - Privacy - Web Content - Exceptions: • it should by-default have the option "Accept Cookies From Sites" unselected , for now keep it like that, ( if not-unseleted , then unselect it ) > then, in that same row , in right side, there is a button [ Exceptions ] , click on that > a new window will popup/appear : type-in (or copy from here) each of below web-address (URL) into the "Address of Website" textbox, & then press [ Add ]/[ Allow ] button :

After all URLs are added/allowed/entered , then press [ Save Changes ].


• goto the received email which has the link https://hangouts.google.com/ in Thunderbird (TB) > right-click on that LINK > you will see an new option "Open Link in New Tab" , use/select that , a new web-browser TAB will open up inside the TB=Thunderbird.


• Login/signin to Hangouts website : Enter your GMail email-address > "Next" button > enter gmail google account's main password , and wait few seconds , then you can use it for CHAT. This process uses full standard encryption/secured protocols for all parts of communication , so its more safer.


• Google's "Hangouts" site/web-service allows to do VoIP (voice over internet protocols) chat , VoIP to Direct Dial (into mobile/landline phone) chat , Video chat over Internet , Text (over internet) chat , SMS text chat , etc . ( it mixes/combines various services ). Google will stop VoIP to Direct Dial chat , SMS text chat , etc services/options in "Hangouts" website/web-service , And move some of those services/features into their "Voice" website/web-service . The "Voice" site will have almost all features of earlier "Hangouts" site : SMS text chat , Text (over internet) chat , VoIP chat , VoIP to Direct Dial chat , etc. The "Hangouts" based Text CHAT/chatting (over internet) functionality will keep on working in "Hangouts" website/web-service. Their "Meet" site/service will provide Video Meeting (Video over internet), etc web-services. Long time ago Google moved GTalk (aka: google-talk , google-chat (not gsuite), etc) web-service(s) into their "Hangouts" website/service.


• TB itself has a builtin purple library & wrappers, etc for it , which uses XMPP/Jabber protocols to connect with GTalk text chat network service. TB's builtin GTalk option using old components, and does not use newer App-Password (or OAuth2) or newer full standard+safer TLS/SSL communication , so user have to use google account main password with old components in TB , and that is not good.


TB is a communication suite type of software , it needs to have more & more INSTANT communication features , by using standard security protocol based solutions. Users worldwide using more & more instant messaging/communications.


More you use TB , & contribute to TB development , more functions & features will be integrated with more/higher security , when you/user will keep on requesting them.

How can I stop Thunderbird checking for new messages automatically within an IMAP setup?

I have purchased Mailwasher Pro to identify spam before it is downloaded to my computer. The problem is that even when I untick the option to "check for new messages every x minutes" new emails are still being downloaded. This means that I am not able to stop certain messages being downloaded to my computer before I have a chance to vet and delete them via Mailwasher Pro. Just in case, I have also unticked "Allow immediate server notifications when new messages arrive" - I don't know what that does so unticked it in case it was causing the problem but still the emails download automatically.

Can anyone advise me please what might be causing this problem? I have contacted support at Mailwasher Pro and they have assured me that the app does not interfere with the way Thunderbird downloads emails. Also the support person I was emailing told me that he had his settings the same as mine and his emails do not get downloaded automatically.

I have been using Thunderbird client for my company emails. Recently, I have upgraded the client to the latest version 78.7.1 (32-bit) and my company also migrated their mail servers to O365. I stored all my old emails in a local folder (D:\Mails). I gather there should be 3 files with the same name; one with .sbd, 2nd with .msf and 3rd with no extension (may be mbox).

After the above 2 upgrades/migrations, I can't find any of my old emails on the client and the local folder location still points to D:\Mails. When I go to D:\Mails, I don't see any files without the extension (mbox files) but can see .sbd and .msf files.

Please advise if there is a way to get my emails back. Thanks much in advance !!

Hello,

I have synchronized a shared Google calendar via https://apidata.googleusercontent.com/caldav/v2/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx@group.calendar.google.com/events in Thunderbird. This basically works fine.

But if there is a recurring event (e.g. every two weeks on Wednesday) and someone moves a single one of those events e.g. from Wednesday to Thursday via her/his Google Calendar app on Android smartphone, this single event will still show in Thunderbird on Wednesday instead of Thursday. While it shows on Thursday in Google Calender app or on calendar.google.com (see Screenshots).

What can be done to show the event on the correct date in Thunderbird calendar, too?

(This is no synchronization problem, other events added later are shown in Thunderbird.)

Hi, I'm on a Mac, OS 10.15.7, using Thunderbird 78.7.1 (64-bit). Recently my Address Books disappeared from view. I can only see a list of all contacts in all address books. I cannot find a setting that allows me to see the 10 individual address books that I've set up over the years. If I ask to create a 'new' address book, I can see a listing of my other address books by I cannot access them. Can anyone help?

I've just found out that I did not need to install a special client as Thunderbird has a client integrated since years (in Nightly since March 2017, and possibly available in stable since Thunderbird 54).

But I'm quite puzzled that I've needed to manually set `chat.prpls.prpl-matrix.disable` to `false` to bring it up in the new chat account - What is the reason to still have this disabled (possibly there is none and a future version can remove that option altogether)?

I monitor 4 work email accounts with Thunderbird. I have recently moved my email server to office365. I can receive and view all accounts on Thunderbird platform but I can only send from one, which is the first one I set up after the change of servers. My work emails "bounce" of my website domain name and I am assured that all dns settings are correct. All securtiy, server and encryption settings are identical in every account (apart from the "name"@...). I can send from all accounts within office 365. I have tried a friends hotmail account in thunderbird and it works. I downloaded a free trial of "Mailbird" and it worked for the 365 accounts but I had to give it permission to to get the information from outlook. Do I maybe have to do the same with Thunderbird and if so HOW? I am using windows10 Pro and Thunderbird 78.7.1 (32bit). Any help appreciated, even the so called experts haven't yet been able to work this one out and I reckon it's quite possibly just a silly little setting somewhere or maybe a permission not granted.
